"'''Mama Luigi'''" is the thirteenth and final episode of the ''[[Super Mario World (television series)|Super Mario World]]'' animated series. In this episode, [[Luigi]] tells [[Yoshi]] the story of how the former met the latter. It mostly takes place at the beginning of the show's story, serving as a prequel, and is Yoshi's origin story, where Luigi takes care of Yoshi. They later find [[Mario]], and they go to [[Bowser|King Koopa]]'s [[Bowser's Castle#Super Mario World|Neon Castle]] to save [[Princess Peach|Princess Toadstool]]. During the story, Luigi and Yoshi commentate on the events in the story, with the episode occasionally cutting back to the present. This is the last animated episode based on the ''[[Super Mario (franchise)|Super Mario]]'' franchise, since no episodes have been produced by [[DIC Entertainment|DIC]] or any other company since the cancelation of ''[[Captain N: The Game Master]]'' on NBC in 1991.

'''Mama Luigi''' is the thirteenth and final episode of the ''[[Super Mario World (TV series)|Super Mario World]]'' animated series. This is the first episode that takes place all the way back to the beginning of the story.
This episode also marks the only appearance of several enemies in a ''Super Mario'' cartoon, including [[Bomber Bill|Magnum Bill]]s, [[Sumo Bro|Fire Sumo]]s, [[Urchin]]s, [[Blurp]]s, and [[Torpedo Ted]]s, as well as [[Lava Lift|Skull Rafts]], [[Yoshi's Egg]]s, [[Dolphin]]s, and [[Skewer]]s.

Inside the [[Dome Castle]], Luigi is in the process of putting a somewhat resistant [[Yoshi]] to bed. Yoshi, not feeling tired, asks [[Luigi]] to tell him a story, more specifically, the story of how Luigi, Mario and [[Baby Peach|Princess Toadstool]] met Yoshi.
Luigi goes on to tell the story: After banishing King Koopa from the [[Mushroom Kingdom]], Mario, Luigi, and Princess Toadstool decided to go on a vacation in [[Dinosaur Land|Dinosaur World]]. While exploring Dinosaur World, they visit [[Dome City]], which is deserted. Looking around, Princess Toadstool is suddenly grabbed by a pair of [[Chargin' Chuck|Koopa football players]]. Mario gets attacked by a [[Magikoopa|Koopa Wizard]], who shoots magic at him. As he runs away, a [[Bomber Bill|Magnum Bill]] flies after him, causing Mario to run away in a different direction. Luigi faces a [[Sumo Bro|Fire Sumo]], which stomps the ground, causing a fissure that Luigi falls into.

[[File:SMWTV I Fell For Hours.png|thumb|left|Luigi about to fall on a Skull Raft]]
Luigi is sent plummeting into the [[Lava Pits (Super Mario World television series)|Lava Pits]], where he apparently fell "for hours." Yoshi comments that hours are a long time, and Luigi responds that it felt that long to him. Seeing nothing but [[lava]] below him, Luigi begins to panic. He lands on a [[Power Balloon|magic balloon]], which temporarily turns him into [[Balloon Mario|Balloon Luigi]], until he turns back into his regular form. He yells before falling on a [[Lava Lift|Skull Raft]]. Yoshi comments on how "skulls mean bad medicine," and Luigi responds that the skulls were good medicine for him. The Skull Raft heads towards a nearby waterfall of lava. Out of panic, Luigi jumps off and falls onto a small portion of land with several [[? Block]]s on it. Luigi hits two nearby ? Blocks. While two blocks spray out [[coin]]s, the third block releases a [[Yoshi egg|red-spotted egg]]. The egg falls off the Block, and Luigi catches the egg, which then hatches, producing a small green [[Yoshi (species)|Yoshisaur]]. Yoshi proceeds to refer to Luigi as "mama," to Luigi's surprise. The scene then cuts to the present, where Yoshi laughs at how Yoshi thought that Luigi was "mama." Luigi, however, did not think it was funny.

As Mario evades the Koopa Wizard and Magnum Bill, Luigi is attacked by the Fire Sumo, who proceeds to stomp the ground with enough force to tear open a large fissure. Unable to leap out of the way, Luigi accidentally stumbles into this fissure and is sent plummeting into the [[Lava Pits]], where he apparently fell "for hours".
Back in the story, wandering the Lava Pits, Yoshi starts crying. Luigi asks Yoshi if he is hungry. Luigi is approached by the [[Evil dinosaur|evil dinosaur]] and a blue one, which surprises Luigi and Yoshi. Luigi hands Yoshi over to the Tyrannosauruses, and Yoshi grabs onto Luigi's legs, yelling, "Mama Luigi!" The evil dinosaur attempts to eat Yoshi, and Luigi quickly pulls him away. The Tyrannosauruses then attempt to eat both Luigi and Yoshi, who escape by jumping over a river of lava, using a [[Blargg]] as a stepping stone. They both enter a [[Warp Pipe]].

Seeing nothing but lava below him, Luigi begins to panic; luckily, Luigi manages to land on a [[P-Balloon|Magic Balloon]], which slows his descent and allows him to land on a [[Skull Raft]]. Unfortunately, this Skull Raft falls down a nearby waterfall of lava, plunging Luigi onto a small portion of land with several [[? Block]]s on it. Looking for an item that could perhaps help him, Luigi hits a nearby ? Block. After spurting out coins, the block does something unexpected, it releases a red-spotted egg. Grabbing this egg, Luigi is is surprised when the egg hatches, producing a small green [[Yoshi (species)|Yoshisaur]], which proceeds to refer to Luigi as "mama".

Wandering the Lava Pits, Luigi feebly attempts to comfort the sobbing baby Yoshi. As he attempts to find out what is wrong with Yoshi, Luigi is approached by a [[T-Rex|purple Tyrannosaurus]] and a blue one. Thinking this pair of T-Rexs to be Yoshi's parents, Luigi hands the panicking Yoshi over to the Tyrannosauruses, only to quickly pull Yoshi away when the purple Tyrannosaurus attempts to eat him. The Tyrannosauruses, angered, try to eat both Luigi and Yoshi, who narrowly escape by jumping over a river of lava, using a [[Blargg]] as a stepping-stone.
Luigi and Yoshi are dumped into the ocean, where they sink as Yoshi yells. They swim through a nearby tunnel, only to be chased by a recently awakened [[Rip Van Fish]]. Fleeing from the Rip Van Fish, Luigi and Yoshi narrowly avoid a swarm of [[Urchin]]s. Exiting the underwater tunnel, Luigi and Yoshi lose the Rip Van Fish, who had fallen back asleep. While trying to swim to the surface of the water, they are attacked by a [[Blurp]], which Luigi defeats with a stomp. A [[Torpedo Ted]] is fired at Luigi and Yoshi. Trying to escape the Torpedo Ted, Luigi and Yoshi swim onto a [[Dolphin]] in a group, who jump over the Torpedo Ted, bringing them to shore. Once on a beach, Luigi wrings the water from his hat; as he is doing this, though, Yoshi waddles away. Noticing Yoshi has wandered away, Luigi begins to search for him.

Entering a Warp Pipe, Luigi and Yoshi find themselves dumped into the ocean. Underwater, Luigi and Yoshi begin swimming through a nearby tunnel, only to be chased by a recently awakened [[Rip Van Fish]]. Fleeing from the angered Rip Van Fish through the tunnel, Luigi and Yoshi narrowly avoid a swarm of [[Urchin]]s. Exiting the underwater tunnel, Luigi and Yoshi lose the Rip Van Fish, who had fallen back to sleep. While trying to swim to the surface of the water, Luigi and Yoshi are attacked by a large, [[Boss Bass]]-like fish and a [[Torpedo Ted]]. Trying to escape this Torpedo Ted, Luigi and Yoshi are aided by several friendly [[Dolphin]]s, who swim the two to shore. Once on a beach, Luigi begins to rinse the water from his hat, as Luigi is doing this though, the curious Yoshi waddles away. Realizing Yoshi has wandered away, Luigi begins to search for him.

[[File:Luigi abuot to become worm food.jpg|thumb|Luigi and Yoshi, surrounded by Caterpillars.]]
As Yoshi is admiring some flowers, a [[Wiggler|caterpillar]] walks towards him. Luigi jumps on the caterpillar and picks up Yoshi. The caterpillar growls at them and walks towards them, and it is joined by multiple others. Luigi loudly calls out for help from Mario. The scene cuts back to the present, where Yoshi comments on how he loves caterpillars. Luigi asks, "Hey, who's telling this story?" as the scene cuts back to the past. Yoshi eats all the caterpillars, defeating them.
Admiring some flowers, Yoshi fails to realize that a hungry [[Wiggler|Caterpillar]] is preparing to lunge at him. Jumping-in just in time, Luigi manages to save Yoshi, only to be besieged by a swarm of Caterpillars moments later. Oblivious to the danger present, Yoshi begins to complain he's hungry while Luigi yells for Mario's help by yelling ''"Mario, wherever you are, HEEEEEEEEEEEEELP!"''. Suddenly Yoshi, unable to hold back his appetite, begins to slurp-up all the Caterpillars, defeating them, much to Luigi's relief.

Suddenly, Mario appears, having heard his brother's cries for help. Mistaking Yoshi for a dangerous beast, Mario lunges at him, only to be quickly eaten by Yoshi. A panicking Luigi manages to convince Yoshi to spit Mario out, Yoshi proceeds to do so, regurgitating a slobber-covered Mario. After telling Mario Yoshi is a friend, Yoshi proceeds to leap into Luigi's arms, calling Luigi "mama", much to Mario's amusement.
Mario runs in, having heard his brother's cries for help. He is quickly eaten by Yoshi. Panicking, Luigi convinces Yoshi that Mario is not an enemy, and Yoshi spits him out. Luigi and Mario clean off the saliva on Mario. After Luigi tells Mario not to mess with Yoshi, Yoshi proceeds to leap into Luigi's arms and lick his face, calling him "mama" again, much to Mario's amusement. After he is finished laughing, Mario tells Luigi that he had escaped King Koopa's "[[Bowser's Castle|Coney Island Disco Palace]]" but was unable to aid the princess in escaping as well. Reaching the castle, Mario leads the others in through a nearby Warp Pipe, which takes them to the dark basement of Neon Castle. Mario asks Luigi to hit a ? Block to turn on the lights. Luigi gives Yoshi to Mario and jumps at the ? Block, but he misses. Luigi asks for a boost, so Mario puts Yoshi on the ground and lifts Luigi up as Luigi jumps off Mario, giving him enough height to hit the ? Block, which activates a spotlight over them as Luigi falls on top of Mario. Yoshi wanders off as Mario and Luigi work on turning on the light.

After he is finished laughing, Mario tells Luigi that he has only just escaped Bowser's [[Bowser's Castle|Coney Island Disco Palace]], but was unable to aid the Princess in escaping as well. After some traveling, Mario, Yoshi and Luigi manage to reach Bowser's Neon Castle, which is guarded by a [[Big Boo]] and several [[Gray Bowser Statue]]s. Luckily, Mario, Luigi and Yoshi manage to pass these guards using a nearby Warp Tube, which leads into the basement of Neon Castle. Entering the dark basement, Mario and Luigi, working together, manage to hit a ? Block which floods the area in light. Unfortunately, Yoshi wanders-off while Mario and Luigi had worked on turning on the light.
[[File:Luigi and Yoshi in the Spike Chamber.png|thumb|left|Luigi and Yoshi in a hallway]]
Tracking Yoshi down, Mario and Luigi find him near a [[fireball]]-belching [[Bowser Statue]]. As Mario and Luigi attempt to dodge the fireballs, Yoshi eats them and manages to shut down the statue by spitting fire on it. After he destroys the statue, a secret passageway opens, which Yoshi ventures down as Mario and Luigi follow him. Yoshi nonchalantly walks down a hallway, unaware of the large [[Skewer]]s shooting out of the ceiling. Pushing Yoshi out of the way of a spike, Luigi gets flattened. As Yoshi runs off, Mario grabs the paper-thin Luigi and manages to return him to normal using a nearby magic balloon. They then continue chasing Yoshi, who leaps through the [[flip panel (Chain-Link)|gate]] of a [[Chain-Link|fence]] and opens a nearby door, meeting a Koopa football player.

Tracking Yoshi down, Mario and Luigi find Yoshi near a [[fireball]]-belching Gray Bowser Statue. As Mario and Luigi attempt to dodge the fireballs launched by the Gray Bowser Statue, Yoshi eats them and manages to shut-down the statue by breathing fire on it. After destroying the Gray Bowser Statue, a secret passageway opens, which Yoshi ventures down, with Mario and Luigi following him.
Quickly climbing over the fence, Mario bashes the football player on the head, only for it to split into three. Tackling Mario and knocking him into Luigi, making them roll into a ball, the Koopa football players are all eaten at once and subsequently spat out by Yoshi, who enters Bowser's throne room. Following Yoshi, who eats a piece of tapestry on the wall, into King Koopa's personal chambers, Mario and Luigi are attacked by a gang of [[Mechakoopa]]s, who are directed by King Koopa from behind a pillar. While running from the Mechakoopas, Mario and Luigi discover that Yoshi has eaten everything in King Koopa's throne room. Koopa enters and, angered at them for his throne room being ruined, orders the Mechakoopas to attack them. However, they are saved by Yoshi, who eats the Mechakoopas. Seeing how much Yoshi has eaten, Mario warns King Koopa, saying that if he does not hand over Princess Toadstool, Yoshi is going to eat all of Neon Castle "piece by piece."
[[File:Luigi and Yoshi in the Spike Chamber.jpg|thumb|left|Luigi, about to rescue Yoshi from the spikes.]]
Entering a hallway, Yoshi nonchalantly walks down it, unaware of the large spikes shooting out of the ceiling. Pushing Yoshi out of the way of a flat-bottomed spike, Luigi becomes flattened. As Yoshi runs-off, Mario grabs the paper thin Luigi and manages to return him to normal using a nearby Magic Balloon. With Luigi returned to normal, Mario and him begin chasing Yoshi, who has leaped through the gate of a fence and is about to be attacked by a Koopa Football Player.

Bashing this Koopa Football Player on the head, Mario is knocked backwards when the Koopa Football Player splits into three. Preparing to tackle Mario and Luigi, this Koopa Football Player is quickly eaten and subsequently spat-out by Yoshi, who enters Bowser's throne room. Following Yoshi into King Koopa's personal chambers, Mario and Luigi are attacked by a gang of [[Mecha-Koopa|Mechkoopas]], who are directed by King Koopa, who had appeared from behind a pillar.
[[File:KingKoopaWiththeKey.png|thumb|King Koopa holding the key]]
King Koopa states that he can build another castle, but Mario and Luigi cannot build another princess, and he is unfazed by their threat due to them being unable to gain the [[key]] needed to release Princess Toadstool. Just then, Yoshi eats it out of his hand. Without the key, King Koopa vows revenge and flees into a nearby Warp Pipe. Praising Yoshi, Luigi quickly asks him if he can spit out the key, which he does, right into a nearby [[keyhole]]. Once the key enters the keyhole, Mario, Luigi, Yoshi, and Princess Toadstool are suddenly transported to Dome City, safe and sound. Princess Toadstool gives Yoshi a big hug.

While running from the Mechkoopas, Mario and Luigi discover Yoshi, who has eaten everything in King Koopa's throne room. A shocked and angered King Koopa suddenly orders the Mechkoopas to attack Yoshi, who quickly gobbles-up the [[Koopa]] robots. Seeing how much Yoshi has eaten, Mario threatens King Koopa, saying that if he doesn't hand-over Princess Toadstool, Yoshi will eat all of Neon Castle, "piece by piece".
Having finished his story, Luigi notices Yoshi has fallen asleep. Tucking Yoshi in, Luigi says goodnight to him, with Yoshi mumbling, "Goodnight, Mama Luigi...hehe." Luigi then shrugs.

King Koopa, unfazed by this threat, says Mario and Luigi will never gain the [[key]] needed to release Princess Toadstool. Yoshi, eyeing the key, slurps it up with his tongue. King Koopa, realizing without the key, he has no bargaining chip, quickly flees into a nearby Warp Pipe. Praising Yoshi, Luigi quickly asks if Yoshi can spit-up the key, which Yoshi does, right into a nearby keyhole. Once the key enters this keyhole, Mario, Luigi, Yoshi and Princess Toadstool are suddenly transported to Dome City, safe and sound.

{{quote|Aww, do I have to go to bed so soon?|Yoshi}}
* Instead of having green spots on it, like in the ''[[Super Mario World]]'' game, Yoshi's egg has red spots on it. Additionally, in the game, a [[Baby Yoshi]] must be fed five enemies to mature; Yoshi is shown eating five Caterpillars, four Mecha-Koopas, and various decorations and furniture in Koopa's throne room yet remains small in size. He also slurped up and spat out Mario, two fire balls, three Koopa Football Players, and Koopa's key.
{{quote|Well, like they say in Brooklyn: 'Early to bed, early to catch the worm.' Or is it 'the bagel?'|Luigi}}
* "Mama Luigi" can be seen as an adaptation of ''Super Mario World''<nowiki>'</nowiki>s storyline, though the episode is lacking the game's climactic final battle, which had earlier been adapted in the episode "[[Send in the Clown]]".
{{quote|Mmmmm, worms good. Tell Yoshi bedtime story now. Tell how Luigi find Yoshi and Yoshi rescue [[Princess Peach|princess]].|Yoshi}}
*In the original ''Super Mario World'', [[Chargin' Chuck]] could not fit into Yoshi's mouth; however, in this episode, Yoshi can swallow the Chargin' Chuck into his mouth.
*Baby Yoshis normally have shoes when they hatch, but Yoshi had no shoes.
*This is the only Super Mario World cartoon that doesn't have any cavemen or Koopalings in it.
* This particular episode is the subject of many internet memes.

==Deleted and trimmed scenes==
There are several animation cels and sketches for the episode that have been found and sold online that do not go to any scene of the episode and some cut from certain scenes. In the episode when Luigi is walking and asks Baby Yoshi if he is hungry, there is a strange cut off during the scene and it transitions to the dinosaurs walking up to him while Baby Yoshi is still talking. The animation cel has a scene code of "107A-53" on it, meaning that is the 53rd scene in the episode. When the dinosaurs appear on screen, the scene numbers of those are 107A-63 - this is known because of the scene of Luigi holding Baby Yoshi - and turning around is 107A-64, meaning that eight scenes of animation are missing from the episode.<ref>Discovered by max6464646464 on [https://twitter.com/max6464646464/status/911744228975398912?lang=en Twitter] September 23, 2017.</ref>

"Mama Luigi" is the thirteenth and final episode of the Super Mario World animated series. In this episode, Luigi tells Yoshi the story of how the former met the latter. It mostly takes place at the beginning of the show's story, serving as a prequel, and is Yoshi's origin story, where Luigi takes care of Yoshi. They later find Mario, and they go to King Koopa's Neon Castle to save Princess Toadstool. During the story, Luigi and Yoshi commentate on the events in the story, with the episode occasionally cutting back to the present. This is the last animated episode based on the Super Mario franchise, since no episodes have been produced by DIC or any other company since the cancelation of Captain N: The Game Master on NBC in 1991.

This episode also marks the only appearance of several enemies in a Super Mario cartoon, including Magnum Bills, Fire Sumos, Urchins, Blurps, and Torpedo Teds, as well as Skull Rafts, Yoshi's Eggs, Dolphins, and Skewers.

Plot synopsis[edit]

Inside the Dome Castle, Luigi is in the process of putting a somewhat resistant Yoshi to bed. Yoshi, not feeling tired, asks Luigi to tell him a bedtime story — more specifically, the story of how Luigi, Mario, and Princess Toadstool met Yoshi.

Luigi goes on to tell the story: After banishing King Koopa from the Mushroom Kingdom, Mario, Luigi, and Princess Toadstool decided to go on a vacation in Dinosaur World. While exploring Dinosaur World, they visit Dome City, which is deserted. Looking around, Princess Toadstool is suddenly grabbed by a pair of Koopa football players. Mario gets attacked by a Koopa Wizard, who shoots magic at him. As he runs away, a Magnum Bill flies after him, causing Mario to run away in a different direction. Luigi faces a Fire Sumo, which stomps the ground, causing a fissure that Luigi falls into.

Luigi about to fall on a Skull Raft

Luigi is sent plummeting into the Lava Pits, where he apparently fell "for hours." Yoshi comments that hours are a long time, and Luigi responds that it felt that long to him. Seeing nothing but lava below him, Luigi begins to panic. He lands on a magic balloon, which temporarily turns him into Balloon Luigi, until he turns back into his regular form. He yells before falling on a Skull Raft. Yoshi comments on how "skulls mean bad medicine," and Luigi responds that the skulls were good medicine for him. The Skull Raft heads towards a nearby waterfall of lava. Out of panic, Luigi jumps off and falls onto a small portion of land with several ? Blocks on it. Luigi hits two nearby ? Blocks. While two blocks spray out coins, the third block releases a red-spotted egg. The egg falls off the Block, and Luigi catches the egg, which then hatches, producing a small green Yoshisaur. Yoshi proceeds to refer to Luigi as "mama," to Luigi's surprise. The scene then cuts to the present, where Yoshi laughs at how Yoshi thought that Luigi was "mama." Luigi, however, did not think it was funny.

Back in the story, wandering the Lava Pits, Yoshi starts crying. Luigi asks Yoshi if he is hungry. Luigi is approached by the evil dinosaur and a blue one, which surprises Luigi and Yoshi. Luigi hands Yoshi over to the Tyrannosauruses, and Yoshi grabs onto Luigi's legs, yelling, "Mama Luigi!" The evil dinosaur attempts to eat Yoshi, and Luigi quickly pulls him away. The Tyrannosauruses then attempt to eat both Luigi and Yoshi, who escape by jumping over a river of lava, using a Blargg as a stepping stone. They both enter a Warp Pipe.

Luigi and Yoshi are dumped into the ocean, where they sink as Yoshi yells. They swim through a nearby tunnel, only to be chased by a recently awakened Rip Van Fish. Fleeing from the Rip Van Fish, Luigi and Yoshi narrowly avoid a swarm of Urchins. Exiting the underwater tunnel, Luigi and Yoshi lose the Rip Van Fish, who had fallen back asleep. While trying to swim to the surface of the water, they are attacked by a Blurp, which Luigi defeats with a stomp. A Torpedo Ted is fired at Luigi and Yoshi. Trying to escape the Torpedo Ted, Luigi and Yoshi swim onto a Dolphin in a group, who jump over the Torpedo Ted, bringing them to shore. Once on a beach, Luigi wrings the water from his hat; as he is doing this, though, Yoshi waddles away. Noticing Yoshi has wandered away, Luigi begins to search for him.

Several caterpillars surrounding Luigi and Yoshi

As Yoshi is admiring some flowers, a caterpillar walks towards him.

After he is finished laughing, Mario tells Luigi that he had escaped King Koopa's "Coney Island Disco Palace" but was unable to aid the princess in escaping as well.

Tracking Yoshi down, Mario and Luigi find him near a fireball-belching Bowser Statue. As Mario and Luigi attempt to dodge the fireballs, Yoshi eats them and manages to shut down the statue by spitting fire on it. After he destroys the statue, a secret passageway opens, which Yoshi ventures down as Mario and Luigi follow him. Yoshi nonchalantly walks down a hallway, unaware of the large Skewers shooting out of the ceiling. Pushing Yoshi out of the way of a spike, Luigi gets flattened. As Yoshi runs off, Mario grabs the paper-thin Luigi and manages to return him to normal using a nearby magic balloon. They then continue chasing Yoshi, who leaps through the gate of a fence and opens a nearby door, meeting a Koopa football player.

Following Yoshi, who eats a piece of tapestry on the wall, into King Koopa's personal chambers, Mario and Luigi are attacked by a gang of Mechakoopas, who are directed by King Koopa from behind a pillar.

King Koopa states that he can build another castle, but Mario and Luigi cannot build another princess, and he is unfazed by their threat due to them being unable to gain the key needed to release Princess Toadstool. Just then, Yoshi eats it out of his hand. Without the key, King Koopa vows revenge and flees into a nearby Warp Pipe. Praising Yoshi, Luigi quickly asks him if he can spit out the key, which he does, right into a nearby keyhole. Once the key enters the keyhole, Mario, Luigi, Yoshi, and Princess Toadstool are suddenly transported to Dome City, safe and sound. Princess Toadstool gives Yoshi a big hug.

Having finished his story, Luigi notices Yoshi has fallen asleep. Tucking Yoshi in, Luigi says goodnight to him, with Yoshi mumbling, "Goodnight, Mama Luigi...hehe." Luigi then shrugs.

Cast[edit]

Animation and continuity errors[edit]

  • When Luigi says that the skulls were good medicine for him, his mouth moves even though this is supposed to his narration off-screen.
  • When the dinosaurs approach Luigi and Yoshi, the purple dinosaur has a completely purple face.
  • After the purple dinosaur says that Yoshi is delicious, its mouth moves without any dialogue being present.
  • In a couple of scenes, the purple dinosaur's sclerae are yellow instead of white.
  • When the Dolphins land on the shore, one overlaps on a tree.
    • In the same scene, Luigi's right hand passes through Yoshi when he waves goodbye to them.
  • In several scenes, Luigi has four fingers on each hand instead of five.
  • The "L" on Luigi's hat is green in this episode, but it turns black once when he is encountered by caterpillars.
    • In the same scene, Yoshi appears to be wearing shoes that are the same color as his body.
  • When the caterpillars surround Luigi and Yoshi, one overlaps on a bush.
  • In a couple of scenes, the caterpillars' noses are red like the rest of their body instead of orange.
  • When Mario runs over to Luigi, he has four fingers on each hand instead of five, and shortly after, his eyebrows are brown instead of black.
  • When Luigi says, "That's my brother, Mario!" the "L" on his cap is missing.
  • While Mario is telling Luigi that the princess is trapped in King Koopa's "Coney Island Disco Palace", Luigi’s eyes appear crooked.
  • When the Skewer crushes Luigi, its end turns flat.
  • When Yoshi approaches the Koopa Football Players, he opens a door, but when Mario and Luigi are scared of them, the door closes.
  • When Yoshi swallows the Koopa Football Players, their mouth guards are orange instead of white.
  • When the Marios run away from the Mechkoopas, one of them overlaps on King Koopa.
  • When King Koopa says that the Mario Bros. will pay for the throne room, part of shell is the same color as his body.
  • When Yoshi is swallowing the Mechkoopas, his lower jaw turns the same color as his body.
  • When King Koopa says that the Mario Bros. cannot build another princess, his eyes are mostly closed. This also happens when he runs away.
    • Luigi's eyes are also mostly closed when he congratulates Yoshi.
  • When King Koopa runs away, the bottom of his feet are yellow instead of green.
  • At the end of the flashback, Luigi's left hand passes through Mario.

Profiles[edit]

Deleted and trimmed scenes[edit]

There are several animation cels and sketches for the episode that have been found and sold online that do not go to any scene of the episode and some cut from certain scenes. In the episode when Luigi is walking and asks Baby Yoshi if he is hungry, there is a strange cut off during the scene and it transitions to the dinosaurs walking up to him while Baby Yoshi is still talking. The animation cel has a scene code of "107A-53" on it, meaning that is the 53rd scene in the episode. When the dinosaurs appear on screen, the scene numbers of those are 107A-63 - this is known because of the scene of Luigi holding Baby Yoshi - and turning around is 107A-64, meaning that eight scenes of animation are missing from the episode.[1]

  • All the cels that have backgrounds are either not original, not from the cartoon or not from the same scene/episode.
  • Unused cels from the deleted scenes.
  • Scene 54.
  • Unknown Scene Number.
  • Scene 57.
  • Scene 58.
  • Scene 61.
  • Scene 62.
  • Scene 74
  • Scene 105
  • Cels from scenes that were trimmed
  • In the "Looking For You" song, in the scene where Mario and Luigi are running from the fire from the Koopa Statue, they were originally going to run into the room before turning around.

Cultural impact[edit]

“I was totally unaware of Mama Luigi's cult status. It’s like winning the lottery but no one told you.”
Phil Harnage

Several lines from this episode, including the line "That's Mama Luigi to you, Mario!", have become an Internet meme, even to the point of "Mama Luigi" being seen as a separate character from the normal Luigi. The line was inspired by an argument writer Phil Harnage had with the show's producer.[2]

I was having an argument with one of the Producers about something they left out of the storyboard that was in the script, and he accused me of being OCD. So I said, “That’s Mister OCD to you, bud.” He cracked up. Having gotten a laugh, first opportunity I had I used it in a script.

When writer Phil Harnage was asked in a fan interview about the episode's popularity, he replied saying he was unaware of it.[2]

Dub edits[edit]

  • The Fire Sumo is referred to as a "strange creature" in the Brazilian Portuguese dub.
