The Star Children (Star Child) are seven babies that possess, as Kamek put it in Yoshi's Island DS, "an extraordinary amount of power." In the game, Bowser travels back in time to steal the stars from these children to take over the world ("the world will be your oyster") – the true intentions behind the kidnappings of all the children. However, few of the children captured by the Toadies were star children, because they were...

Baby Mario, Baby Luigi, Baby Peach, Baby DK, Baby Wario, and Baby Bowser were all captured, but Baby Mario and Baby Peach were saved by The Stork from the initial kidnapping, Baby Luigi hid at the time Bowser was checking the babies for stars, Baby Wario was dumped in a cave by a Toady after he had thrown an enormous tantrum, and Baby Bowser enraged Bowser into kicking him out of the castle. It is unknown how Baby DK escaped capture; he just fell from the sky and landed on Yoshi's back.

It is likely that Baby Yoshi, who is green, is the Yoshi. He is shown being hatched at the end of the credits of the game. However, it is unclear whether Bowser was already in possession of one of these stars from his baby self, or whether the star moved on to another baby or disappeared when he grew up. Bowser may have also been simply oblivious to the fact that he himself was once a Star Child.
