Loosely based on Super Mario World, the Super Mario World show chronicles the adventures of Mario, Luigi, and Princess Toadstool in Dinosaur Land. Yoshi, King Bowser Koopa and a bunch of new characters, such as Oogtar the Caveboy, make an appearance, as well. It was the last of DiC's Super Mario cartoons.

Overview

Sometime after the events of The Adventures of Super Mario Bros. 3 series finale "Super Koopa", King Bowser Koopa, the Koopalings and their armies were banished from the Mushroom Kingdom.

After the banishment of the Koopa family and their minions, Princess Toadstool, Mario and Luigi went on vacation to the Dinosaur World. Only for Princess Toadstool to be kidnapped by King Koopa and his minions. After adventuring and befriending Yoshi, Mario and Luigi managed to rescue Princess Toadstool from Bowser's Neon Castle and subsequently decided to stay in Dinosaur Land's Dome City with the cave-people.

Several episodes of Super Mario World often had Mario, Luigi, Yoshi, Princess Toadstool and occasionally a show-exclusive character, Oogtar the Caveboy, trying to stop the schemes of King Koopa and the Koopalings, as well as other villains such as Wizardheimer or the DinoRiders.

Social Issues

Some episodes of Super Mario World can also be seen as social commentary for controversial issues, such as street gangs ("Born to Ride"), addiction ("Rock TV") and obesity ("King Scoopa Koopa").

The show also had several episodes, such as "The Wheel Thing" and "Party Line", dealing with the introduction and consequences of introducing new concepts and technologies to others, in this case, the cave-people of Dome City.

Errors and inconsistisies

Like The Super Mario Bros. Super Show! and The Adventures of Super Mario Bros. 3 before it, Super Mario World had several noticeable differences between itself and the game it was based on. Possibly the most noticeable of these are the cave-people of Dome City, the game Super Mario World, aside from Mario, Luigi and Princess Toadstool, had no humans in it at all. The names of enemies and places were also changed, some of these include:

Distribution

The Super Mario World episode "The Night Before Cave Christmas" was released sometime in 1996 for a VHS tape entitled "Super Mario Bros. Super Christmas Adventures"; along with "The Night Before Cave Christmas", the animated segment of The Super Mario Bros. Super Show! episode "Koopa Klaus / Little Marios" and the live-action segment of "Star Koopa / Santa Claus is Coming to Flatbush" were also released as a part of "Super Mario Bros. Super Christmas Adventures".

Currently, DVDs of every single Super Mario World episode are available in Australia; the episode "A Little Learning" was also available on a VHS tape for a time in the UK.

Due to complications involving the use of Yoshi, it was originally thought that DVDs of Super Mario World weren't going to be made, though it was recently announced that Shout! Factory will be will be creating DVDs of Super Mario World, which will be released in a year's time.

# Episode Information
1 "Fire Sale" Kootie Pie Koopa, wanting to warm-up her recently aquired ice palace, decides to kidnap Mama Fireplant, not caring that without Mama Fireplant's fireballs, Dome City will freeze. Its up to Mario, Luigi, Princess Toadstool and Yoshi to rescue Mama Fireplant and stop Dome City from turning to ice.
2 "The Wheel Thing" Wanting to make the lives of the cave-people easier, Mario decides to introduce them to the wheel and later, cars. Unfortunately, Mario's cars cause nothing but trouble for the cave-people, who decide to banish Mario and Luigi to the Lava Pits. To make matters worse, Kooky Von Koopa has created the Mega Mechanasaur, a weapon of mass destruction he plans to demolish Dome City with, which is now defenceless without Mario and Luigi.
3 "Send in the Clown" King Koopa, Big Mouth and Kootie Pie Koopa, having seemingly turned over a new leaf, have all the cave-people of Dome City, as well as Mario, Luigi, Yoshi and Princess Toadstool, attend a show at the "Koopaling Bros. Circus". At first everything is fun and games, until King Koopa decides to inact his plan to feed the circus audience to the dinosaurs.
4 "Ghosts 'R' Us" While searching for the missing Oogtar the Caveboy in the Enchanted Forest, Mario, Luigi and Princess Toadstool are taken as captives by a wicked Koopa Wizard named Wizardheimer; its up to Oogtar the Caveboy and a fearful Yoshi to venture to Wizardheimer's Haunted House to rescue Mario, Luigi and Princess Toadstool.
5 "The Night Before Cave Christmas" Noticing how grumpy all of the cave-people have been recently, Mario decides to cheer them up by celebrating "Cave Christmas". Unfortunately, Cave Christmas may be ruined by the greedy Bowser, who has stolen all the Cave Christmas presents so he can give to his Koopalings, not noticing he has also taken an equally greedy Oogtar the Caveboy.
6 "King Scoopa Koopa" Bowser, wanting to make a fortune, opens a fast-food stand near Dome City, operated by Rexes and Dino-Torches. Soon, everyone, including Luigi and Yoshi, become addicted to Bowser's food, which begins to have disturbing side-effects, both mentally and physically on those who eat it.
7 "Born to Ride" Yoshi, after being scolded by Mario and Luigi for ruining their recently built plumbing system, decides to run away and winds-up joining a biker gang called the DinoRiders, who gladly accept Yoshi; unknown to Yoshi though, the DinoRiders simply want to use him to get to Mario and Luigi, who they plan to capture and hand-over to King Koopa.
8 "Party Line" Seeing how all the inhabitants of Dome City have been having a lot of accidents lately, Mario and Luigi decide to install a phone system in Dome City. Unfortunately, things begin to spiral out of control when Dome City is overrun by Caterpillars, vines and a hungry T-Rex, with the cave-people being too busy chatting on the phone to do anything; leaving Mario and Luigi to try and save the day, or be eaten in the process.
9 "Gopher Bash" Luigi, wanting to help the cave-people, decides to teach them to farm and grow crops and, after a few incidents, succeeds in doing so. Unfortunately, all these crops are stolen by Cheatsy Koopa and his Monty Mole henchmen, leaving Mario, Luigi and Yoshi to try and get all the stolen food back, or else everyone in Dome City will starve.
10 "Rock TV" Bowser, having not done anything nasty in a while, decides to inact a plan to brainwash the inhabitants of Dome City with his "Koopa Sonic Rock TVs". With everyone in Dome City as his slaves, Bowser has Mario and Luigi captured and forced to fight the monstrous Tyrannosaurus Twins, who plan to pummel Mario and Luigi into submission.
11 "The Yoshi Shuffle" Wanting to teach the cave-people and Yoshi teamwork, Mario and Luigi decide to have a game of football, which ends with Luigi being turned into an egg by a Koopa Wizard. The egg is eventually taken by Cheatsy and Bully Koopa, who plan on having their own game of football against the captured Mario and Yoshi, with Luigi as the ball.
12 "A Little Learning" Against the wishes of King Koopa, Hip and Hop Koopa decide to go to school in Dome City, where they spark a fierce rivalry with Oogtar and Yoshi. At first Hip and Hop and Yoshi and Oogtar pull pranks on oneanother, but things get out of hand when the school is overrun by lava, a giant Piranha Plant is let loose and an angered King Koopa shows-up.
13 "Mama Luigi" Yoshi, while being put to bed, asks Luigi to tell him the story of how he and Mario came to Dinosaur Land, met Yoshi and battled King Koopa over the fate of Princess Toadstool.
