Choco Island 1 is the first course of the Flower Cup in Super Mario Kart. The stage is based on Chocolate Island from Super Mario World. It is a very short course and one round normally takes not more than twenty seconds. Its hazards are Piranha Plants which will make the driver slide once contacted and slippery oil-like liquid which makes it difficult to steer. There are also many small bumps in the road, causing karts to automatically hop somewhat, also increasing control difficulty. When driving off the regular road on the darker ground, the kart slows down extremely, unless a star or a mushroom is used. There is only one place where Item Boxes can be obtained, just after the start.
