Manky Kong
A render of Manky Kong.

Manky Kongs are long-armed orange orangutans found in the game Donkey Kong Country.

Manky Kongs are semi-common enemies found mostly in later levels of the game. Manky Kongs attack Donkey Kong and Diddy Kong by hurling barrels at them in continuous pattern, Donkey or Diddy must avoid these barrels and jump on a Manky Kong's head to defeat it.

Aside from the various remakes of Donkey Kong Country Manky Kongs have not appeared again, though another orangutan, named Lanky Kong appears in the game Donkey Kong 64. Whether or not Lanky is related to the Manky Kongs (or is one) is unknown.

It is unknown if Manky Kongs have any relation to the Kong family. It is thought by some that they may have once been members of the Kong family but were kicked for being too rowdy as the Donkey Kong Country manual describes them as "Kong reject orangutans".

Regardless the Manky Kongs seemed to have made their own "Kong family" called the Orang-utan Gang.

Trivia

  • The name Manky Kong possibly comes from the word Manky, which is a British slang term meaning dirty.
  • It is thought by some that the character Eddie the Mean Old Yeti from the Donkey Kong Country animated series is based off the Manky Kongs. As like the Manky Kongs, Eddie has a bad temper and has unknown relations to the Kong family, also Eddie resembles a Manky Kong only his fur is white while the fur of a Manky Kong is orange.
