Gameplay

The object of the game is to reach the finish point of an obstacle course as quickly as possible. Several obstacles that must be removed to continue exist on the course, however; these include Thwomps, Whomps, and Pokeys. The Pokeys roam about a set area and must be destroyed with punches. Thwomps only sit in the player's way and may be moved by rapidly pressing the A Button and B Button buttons. Whomps attack only when the player approaches them, and do so by falling over. They can be defeated if the player jumps on them, but they get back up soon after if the player does not.

In Shroom City mode, the player must reach the finish within a time limit, but in Free Play mode, the player is attempting to reach the end in record time. The course is also shorter in the former.
