- Not to be confused with Steerable Barrel.
A Rotatable Barrel[1] (also called a Rotater Barrel in an issue of Nintendo Power[2]) is a type of Barrel that appears in the game Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy's Kong Quest for the SNES and Game Boy Advance, as well as in Donkey Kong Land for the original Game Boy. This kind of Barrel first appears in the level Barrel Bayou. Rotatable Barrels also appear in the sequel to Donkey Kong Land 2, Donkey Kong Land III.
Rotatable Barrels are similar to the Auto-Fire Barrel, although this type of Barrel can actually be rotated and fired in any direction. However, there is a limit (which is indicated by a number that sometimes appears on the Barrel) to how long the Kongs can stay in the Barrel. After this limit, the Kongs will be launched automatically. In Donkey Kong Land 2 and Donkey Kong Land III, these barrels allow the monkeys to stay in them for as long as they want, and they still have complete control of the barrel.
A Rotatable Barrel also makes a small appearance in Super Smash Bros. on the Kongo Jungle level. It floats under the stage and can be used for a recovery if the player ejects at the correct trajectory. However, they don't have the same arrow markings as the Rotatable Barrel does, instead having the markings used on a regular Barrel Cannon. Also, similar barrels called Spinner Barrels make an appearance in DK: Jungle Climber. These barrels have no time limit.
