This article is about Funky Kong's location in Donkey Kong Country. For the mini-game in the Game Boy Advance remake of Donkey Kong Country 2, see Funky's Flights (Bonus Game).

Funky's Flights is a travel service operated by Funky Kong in Donkey Kong Country and DK: Jungle Climber.

With one airport in every area on Donkey Kong Island, Funky's Flights is the only way for Donkey and Diddy Kong to travel between areas of the island without beating a boss. By dropping in at Funky's nearest hut, Funky will let the two Kongs ride around the island in his Jumbo Barrel, free of charge. However, the Jumbo Barrel is unable to travel to any areas that the Kongs have not yet visited, thus preventing players from skipping levels. Rather, Funky's Flights merely serves as a bridge between the accessed areas of the island.

In the Game Boy Advance remake of Donkey Kong Country, Funky instead runs the minigame, Funky's Fishing.

Funky reworked his business practice in time for Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy's Kong Quest and Donkey Kong Land 2, now offering flight service around Crocodile Isle in his new Funky Barrel. Funky's new service was dubbed Funky's Flights II, but with one catch: Funky would charge Diddy and Dixie Kong two Banana Coins for the first use of the Funky Barrel at every location, although any additional use would be free.

Funky's Flights also appears in Donkey Kong Country television series, where, besides being a flight shop, it's also a food shop. In the episode Hunka Hunka Burnin' Bluster, Funky wants to transform Funky's Flights into a restaurant.

In DK: Jungle Climber, Funky runs his flight service once more. Here, DK and Diddy must collect a certain number of Oil Barrels to be able to use the Funky Barrel and fly to another island. The instruction booklet for DK: Jungle Climber refers to Funky's flight service as "Funky Flights", rather than "Funky's Flights". The reasons for this small name change are unknown.

Appearances in other media

In the Donkey Kong Country animated series, Funky's Flights was located near the beach and docks of Kongo Bongo Island and had a complex system built into that could raise the entire hut into the air and suspend it there. On the show, Funky's Flights, as well as offering plane rides to people, made deliveries for Bluster's Barrel Works as well. The inside of Funky's Flights was also shown on occasion on the show and was filled with surfer memorabilia, as one would expect a place owned by Funky Kong to have, along with other objects like a couch, refrigerator and paintings.

In-game description

Instruction Booklet:

  • "Funky's Flights are the only way to fly! However, Funky's practices have changed, and he has different plans for you this time out."
