Donut Secret 2, also referred to as Donut Underground[1], is the second secret Donut Plains level in Super Mario World, located atop a cliff overlooking the Valley of Bowser. It takes place inside a slippery ice cave, with many hazardous pits to fall into.

Overview

The player is given 300 seconds to beat the level, and it contains five Dragon Coins.

The surfaces in this area are slippery, making it easier to fall down a pit. The player first encounters a ? Block on the ground, which releases a Control Coin when struck. The player then finds a Jumping Board; above it is a Rotating Block containing a Beanstalk, which leads to a floating platform with a Super Star. Traveling further, the player passes a few Spike Tops and a set of Warp Pipes with Munchers in between. Past that is another Warp Pipe that takes the player to a Coin Heaven outside, where a Power Balloon is used to collect scattered coins in the air. Avoiding the falling platforms, Jumping Piranha Plants, and Munchers, the player takes the blue Warp Pipe at the end and reemerges in the cave. Here, more Spinies and a green Koopa Troopa are encountered, until the player comes to a flock of red Koopa Paratroopas near the end of the level. Stomping all eight Koopa Paratroopas in succession yields an extra life, and soon after is the Giant Gate marking level completion.

Trivia

  • Icy areas such as Donut Secret 2 are rare in Super Mario World and seldom encountered, the only others being: Vanilla Dome 3, Valley of Bowser 4, and Awesome.
  • This course contains two Super Stars. If Mario maintains the first one found throughout the course and manages to reach the coin block near the end of the course quickly enough, then the second Super Star appears out of it when hit. Mario can get many extra lives from the red Koopa Paratroopas at the end if he has this second Super Star rather than just the first.
