Plot

It has been requested that this article be rewritten.

Townsfolk mining Gold Coins for King Koopa by force.

Mario, Luigi, Princess Toadstool and Toad run through the wild Wild West in a chariot pulled by Ostros, while they are being chased by several Snifits and King Koopa riding on some other Ostros. King Koopa grabs a Piranha Plant from his pocket and aims it at the Mario Bros.' chariot, and the Snifits do the same thing. Mario goes to the back of the chariot, grabs a Cobrat and uses it to fire back at the Koopa pack. A Snifit gets on the chariot to tackle Mario, but just to be beaten up and defeated by the plumber. King Koopa shoots a fireball at the ropes that Luigi is using to control the Ostros. As the abandoning Ostros flee away, the Mario, Luigi, Toad, and Princess Toadstool go in a different direction, heading to a cliff. Trying to brake, the Mario Bros. destroy the wheels, and slide down the cliff until they hit a stone. The heroes fly out of their destroyed chariot and the ground breaks their fall.

King Koopa notices them at the bottom of the cliff, and goes after them. Toad spots a giant Warp Pipe leading somewhere, as the gang runs into it. Bowser tosses a Bob-Omb into the pipe, destroying the entrance and blocking it with wreckage. In the dark, Princess Toadstool accidentally stepped on Luigi's toe and apologized for that. Just then, Mario sees a light thinking it is an exit, but discovers a big room filled with coins. Princess Toadstool says that it is the Lost Gold Coin Mine. While Toad is stuffing his pockets with some gold coins, Luigi is worried about getting out of the mine, and Mario says that they can dig a way out with shovels.

Toad gets captured by Klaimjump Koopa.

As the Mario brothers sing along while digging, they are almost at the surface, the Princess asks if they are sure to find out where they are heading. The gang reaches a seemingly empty town, and then are scared by an elder who introduces himself as Calamity Clam. Toad asks him where they are. He says that the town is called Lonesome Mushroom. Calamity Clam says that it is a "little ghost town". Toad asks for an assay, and Calamity Clam takes them to it. In the assay office, Toad puts all of his coins on the desk and calls for the assayer. The assayer appears to Calamity Clam, much to the foursome's surprise, Luigi ask why, Calamity responds he owns a hat store. Toad asks him to tell them if the coins are real. He says that the coins are real, and yells out to miners outside as they look through the window. The surprised Calamity Clam told the foursome that created a "genuine gold coin rush". King Koopa spotted and heard all this on a cliff and prepared his Snifits to approach Lonesome Mushroom.

Back in the western town, more miners came and kept up digging for the gold and the ghost town is becoming a boomtown. Toad is not happy about this rush and claims that it's all his fault. But Calamity doesn't mind this at all because "Claim Jump Koopa could be here". But he stands corrected as Koopa lassoed Toad. Koopa prepared his pack to invade. As the miners attempted to flee from the invasion, the Snifits lassoed them. Calamity decides that Luigi, Mario, and Princess Toadstool to "head for the hills" for safety if they get captured too. The Snifit informs Koopa that the princess, the plumbers, and sheriff are running away. Koopa responds to forget them and pursues the coins. The townsfolk and Toad are being turned into slaves because they're spending the rest of their lives digging for gold.

Sometime later, the gang get back to the now empty town and find out that Koopa, his troops, the townsfolk, and Toad are all gone. As Toadstool asks where they all go, a little earthquake shook the four and fell down and they discovered that they're in the mine.

Toad, in the mine, starts fighting with King Koopa after he throws a Bob-Omb at him, but fails and ends up running away from it. He threw more Bob-Ombs to get his captives to work faster. The Mario brothers and their friends notice the slaves, and Mario says he wants to get Fire Flowers. Calamity Clam says he knows a place with lots of them. As they walk through this corridor, Princess Toadstool asks if Clam is sure this is the way to mine. Calamity assures her that they have to get past the boiling Tomato Sauce mine. Mario sticks finger in the tomato sauce and he likes and mentions spaghetti. Calamity Clam takes him to the Pasta mine for lunch, much to Mario's amusement. But before he could do that, Princess Toadstool grabs his hand and tells him there's no time and makes it to the Fire Flower Mine. Mario is so hungry and tries to give them all a lunch break, but the princess insistently ordered Mario to get his power to save the day now. Mario and Luigi touch two flowers and become Super Mario and Super Luigi and they are ready for action.

Meanwhile, Toad brings in the last of the coins. King Koopa orders more gold, but the Toads are very tired, which makes him angry. The Mario Bros. punch through a wall near there and frighten the Snifits with shooting Fireballs. When all the Snifits are gone, Bowser captures the Princess, and leaves riding a mine cart. The plumbers and Toad ride another minecart, to chase after him.

They all go down tunnels and twisty trails down and even get past a loop-de-loop. As Mario touches King Koopa, he loses his Fire Flower power and starts to fall off. But Toad and Luigi begin to save him. After that, Luigi loses his power too, a little before the mine carts sink into the tomato sauce lake. Soon, they pull Princess Toadstool into their cart. Bowser crashes through a green wooden gate, getting out of the mine. The trails split into two and the princess comes up with an idea to get in front of Koopa and "stop him the hard way". King Koopa goes to the right path, and the brothers go to the left one, passing him. Koopa wants the foursome to stop and Mario agrees. He pulled the brake, and the foursome jumped off of it. Both carts collide and Bowser is launched towards a cactus, hurting him and the cactus catapults Koopa in the air. In the end, the heroes start to celebrate Claim Jump Koopa's defeat and laugh.
