After obtaining it, he can play the "Tube Mode" mini-game at Pianta Parlor as well as to be able to trade several items there.
The item reappears in Super Paper Mario under the name Golden Card. Its purpose is to access the secret mini-game called Hammer Whacker at the arcade.
