Looking at the Japanese name for this thing, I'm wondering if it might not be a reference to the [[Spin Jump]] from Super Mario World. I guess "you can safely bounce off spiked enemies" and "you can stomp spiked enemies" are different things, but jumping on spiked enemies in SMRPG doesn't hurt Mario like in other games. There's also the advanced [[Splash Bros.]] from Superstar Saga, which both allows you to jump on them and deal damage, also by spinning... Spin Jump?
