Talk:Mecha Bowser
Mario Kart Double Dash
The Mario Kart: Double Dash!! "Gray Bowser Statue" is, in fact, visually exactly the same as this, and acts basically the same as well. The only differences are that this iteration is more flexible than that one, as it could only move its mouth instead of lunging forwards, like this one does, and the fireballs for it didn't look like bouncing burning wiffle balls, like the ones this shoots do. EDIT: I'm saying that info, which includes the stuff from the Bob-omb Minigame, should be merged here, and possibly all of it be merged to Bowser Monument.Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 19:04, 30 September 2017 (EDT)

So this big Bowser statue that pretty much shares a name with a giant robot for maximum confusion seems to just be an evolving depiction of the normal Bowser statue.
- Exhibit A: K'NEX toys simply refer to it as a "Template:Media link."
- Exhibit B: In Danger, Bob-omb! Danger!, it is simply known as "Bowser," but it is definitely Template:Media link.
- Exhibit C: Now, let's take a look at the models themselves, courtesy of [noclip.website]. Here is a comparison collage I made of the statues from MKDD's Bowser's Castle, MKW's Bowser's Castle, and MKW's N64 Bowser's Castle, with and without vertex shading. Notice several similarities there, especially between the GCN and remake-of-N64 ones, which certainly reused the model and textures wholesale in a slightly different pose and as part of the track geometry, swapping out the original base. The MKW Castle one appears to have had its textures, normals, and certain parts of its geometry (notably the lower jaw's joint) retouched, but it keeps most of the same geometry. As such, the MKDD and MKW ones are no more different from each other than they are the statues from the N64 Bowser's Castle, which were certainly intended to be normal Bowser statues. As such, they all should be considered a continuation of the same statues from MK64 rather than a distinct subject.
I may cover the Bowser Monument in a later proposal as it seems to be an even further continuation, though as the track it is in also includes the SMB3 type of Bowser statue, it may have more reason to remain split.

Support
- Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) - Per my rocky wording above. I'm tired, so it might look stoned. My proposals may not be boulder, but they are brasher.
- SolemnStormcloud (talk) Per proposal.
- LinkTheLefty (talk) As long as the Monument is left alone for the time being.
- Hewer (talk) Per proposal, there doesn't seem to be much to suggest this is anything more than just a normal Bowser statue.

What is this thing known as in Japan? PrincessPeachFan (talk) 08:51, November 15, 2023 (EST)
- I don't have that information (someone with a Mario Kart Shogakukan guide want to pop in?), but for what it's worth, KoopaClaw and KoopaStat internally refer to the Monument and Statues in 8; in Wii, it's koopaFigure, though it wouldn't be the only time the statue was labeled with an off name (and it frankly sounds like a developer doing their own quick translation of zō, more than the New Super Mario Bros. 2 one at least).
