The Super Mario-Kun is a Japanese-published Mario comic book series written by Yukio Sawada and published by Shogakukan. They contained many of the characters and scenarios of various Mario games, including Super Mario World and Paper Mario. Interestingly, the Paper Mario series of Super Mario-Kun books came about before anyone, even in Japan, had heard about the game. Below are the covers of almost all the titles in the series, ending at the September 2005 issue. The gallery below lists the cover art, the game the issue was based on, and the date released.

1 The very first comic book that appeared only in Japan. The comic book is based on the game, Super Mario World. On the front cover of this issue; the player will see Mario with his cape; Luigi, a new friend named Yoshi and Bowser with his Koopa Clown Car. August 27, 1991
2 The second comic book in the beginning series. It is again based on the game, Super Mario World. The front cover of the comic book introduces the invincible Starman. November 28, 1991
Super Mario-kun #2
3 Third comic book of the Super Mario World series as the comics live in. The front cover has Princess Peach riding Yoshi. January 28, 1992
Super Mario-kun #3
4 Forth issue of the series that once again features the plot, object, and character based on the game Super Mario World. Nothing new on the front cover of the comic book. November 28, 1992
Super Mario-kun #4
5 The last series of the comic book based on the game Super Mario World. But the comic book production is continuing as it so. Once again, nothing new on the front cover. December 16, 1992
Super Mario-kun #5
6 The company next features a comic book that is based on the game, Super Mario Kart; the first and only comic book. The front cover features Mario, Luigi, Bowser, and Yoshi racing in various tracks. Additionally, Yoshi is holding an Yoshi Egg. There is a Lakitu that has a microphone with a speaker to see the race. March 27, 1993
7 This next comic book is based on the game Super Mario Land 2: 6 Golden Coins. In the front cover, there is a Mario figure that appeared in Mario Zone. Mario is hanging out on the figure while Wario, a new enemy was hiding behind the figure. Also, there's a Carrot power-up that appeared on the cover. Additionally, Bowser, Luigi, and Yoshi appeared on the comic but not in the actual game. June 28, 1993

  • The Koopa Bros., characters originating in Super Mario-Kun, later made in appearance in the Nintendo 64 game Paper Mario.
