Talk:Minecraft
Images
I've been uploading an assortment of Minecraft images on Postimg (imgur doesn't play nice with the Wii U's browser). I was planning on uploading them to the wiki in large batches once I took every single image I could, but everyone is free to upload them early, if they'd like: 2D Sprites, 3D Models, Landmarks, Mobs, Skins, and Miscellaneous. I have other galleries for Blocks, Items, and Paintings, but they don't have nearly enough images at the moment. Hello, I'm Time Turner. 23:28, 23 November 2016 (EST)
- Just create a temporary userpage or use MarioWiki:Sandbox that creates red file links. Naming is not a problem and uploading to Imgur is bypassed as you upload directly to MarioWiki. I use the red file link trick all the time. The screenshots from the Wii U directly are always JPEG. --Wildgoosespeeder (talk) (Stats - Contribs) 23:34, 23 November 2016 (EST)
- Meh. I prefer doing all of the set-up outside of the wiki and only bothering this place once everything's ready. Hello, I'm Time Turner. 23:37, 23 November 2016 (EST)
- Also, there is a risk of quality degradation. Facebook using 3DS Image Share is notorious for this, especially with a previous version of File:SM3DL Tapped Icon.png uploaded by Alex95 (talk). --Wildgoosespeeder (talk) (Stats - Contribs) 23:56, 23 November 2016 (EST)

Rename Minecraft: Wii U Edition to simply Minecraft.
Template:SettledTPP Template:ProposalOutcome With the release of the Minecraft: Nintendo Switch Edition, it seems very unsettling that the page title still only acknowledges the Wii U Edition, that's why I'm proposing to simply move this page to be titled simply as Minecraft, with no specification of the platform edition in the title. We should treat both versions equally, because, in a sense, the Switch Edition is not a port of the Wii U Edition... well, it kinda is, but in the case for Minecraft, all versions are just ports of the original PC version. This neutrality is to assure the Switch Edition gets a proper treatment, if we take look at the infobox at the beginning, there is little mention of the Switch Edition aside from the platform spot (which looks misleading saying that Minecraft: Wii U Edition is the version available on Nintendo Switch), no one has added its release date, the media or the control input.

- Byllant (talk) - Per my proposal.
- Baby Luigi (talk) Per proposal. It would be redundant to have two separate articles on what is pretty much the exact same game with the exact same content (as mentioned in the beginning statement in the article, not even ports of games we have on this wiki are this similar and chances are, if they are that similar, they should be on the same article). Redirects can easily function and do their job here should users search for their specific version.
- Niiue (talk) Per all.
- Mario jc (talk) Definitely needs a rename. Per all.
- TheFlameChomp (talk) Per all.
- Yoshi the SSM (talk) Though I think "Super Mario Mash-Up Pack" would be better because that is what the article is about. But, since it was released after Minecraft: Wii U Edition, that date is not in line with when Minecraft came to Nintendo systems. So, Minecraft works best. Also, please note that we must keep the Wikipedia link in the intro, as many people do not know what is Minecraft and this doesn't explain it and it can't explain it because it isn't part of the Mario franchise. Just the Super Mario Mash-Up Pack and the references to Mario.
- Tails777 (talk) Per all.
- Alex95 (talk) I was thinking about making this proposal myself at some point. Per all.
- Luigi 64DD (talk) Sounds good. Per all.
- SuperYoshi1234 (talk) Per all.
- BBQ Turtle (talk) Per all, renaming it makes the most sense, and would also allow for any future releases of Minecraft with the Super Mario Mash-Up Pack too.
- Toadette the Achiever (talk) Per Byllant in the comments. Usually, for crossover articles, we provide brief coverage on the subject, then talk in-depth about how it relates to Mario. It also makes sense to move the article, since there is no particular name for either Nintendo version of Minecraft.

- WaluigiWahrior (talk) Per Proposal, this really should happen if Minecraft is going to appear on all future Nintendo Platforms as well as Wii U and Switch.

- Digibutter (talk) - I believe that Minecraft: Wii U / Nintendo Switch Edition would be a better title, like the title given to Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS / Wii U. The generic "Minecraft" title implies that it is also referring to versions on non-Nintendo consoles.
Comments
To give out a better idea for this rename, this is how I suggest the main paragraph to be written:
Minecraft is a sandbox video game released by Mojang AB and 4J Studios originally for Microsoft Windows that features a blocky aesthetic centered around gathering resources to survive, exploring the randomly generated terrain, and creating worlds and sculptures using a variety of colorful blocks and tools, though the objective is largely based on the player's direction. A port called Minecraft Wii U Edition was originally released for the Wii U Nintendo eShop on December 17, 2015, and later released with a physical edition on May 17, 2016. Another port called Minecraft: Nintendo Switch Edition was released on the Nintendo Switch Nintendo eShop on May 11, 2017. Both editions feature an exclusive Super Mario Mash-Up Pack, in addition to the original references to the Mario franchise found in the original PC version, such as a painting featuring 100m from Donkey Kong (which was based on a painting by Kristoffer Zetterstrand). Aside from the different console (and thus, different controls) and an increased map size on the Nintendo Switch Edition, both editions are otherwise identical games.

Since this is a talk page proposal, it should run for two weeks, not one, so the deadline should be May 31. Mario JC 05:52, 17 May 2017 (EDT)
- Mincraft should probably be Minecraft and Super Mario Mash-Up Pack should be Super Mario Mash-Up Pack (with a redirect), as that's really the only thing we're covering. We're not covering the entirety of Minecraft itself, just the Super Mario related content. Users will probably touch it up once the article is merged anyway :)
- @Digibutter - Considering we're on the "Super Mario Wiki", I don't think people are going to be that confused. 23:02, 18 May 2017 (EDT)
- In fact, I hate that title (along with wondering why we cover all aspects of Smash rather than Mario-related aspects, but that's a discussion for a different part of MarioWiki). Although Nintendo doesn't recognize Super Smash Bros. 4, that is a better title to type out and doesn't accidentally create a subpage. It feels like it should be a disambiguation page to avoid violations of MarioWiki:Once and only once. --Wildgoosespeeder (talk) (Stats - Contribs) 00:18, 19 May 2017 (EDT)
Rename the article from Minecraft to a better title.

Hi, I actually edits the Official Minecraft Wiki very frequently, started about 11 months ago, under the name "HaydenBobMutthew". So I am very experienced with Minecraft and so I know that Minecraft have a few editions. According to the wiki, the following table summarises the editions and whether this edition have Super Mario Mash-up Pack or not.
Edition | Super Mario Mash-up pack included? |
---|---|
Java Edition | No |
Bedrock Edition | Partial (Nintendo Switch Only, unavailable on the Marketplace, unusable in Cross Platform multiplayer, due to licensing restrictions) |
Legacy Console Edition | Partial (Wii U Edition and Nintendo Switch Edition Only) |
New Nintendo 3DS Edition | Yes |
Education Edition | No |
So, Minecraft means the game in general. Simply call the title "Minecraft" will cause readers confusion between editions. I think that it should be renamed to be Minecraft: Wii U / Switch / 3DS / Bedrock Edition or something similar. --HaydenKenMutthew (talk) 10:43, 19 July 2018 (EDT)

- Alex95 (talk) - It's meant to be a collective name. I don't think anyone will get confused searching for XBox 360 information on the Super Mario Wiki. We're only covering the Super Mario Mash-Up pack information, not the whole game itself. The page did used to be called "Minecraft: Wii U Edition", but was changed to simply "Minecraft" per the previous proposal above. Per the above proposal.
