Returning minigames

In the direct I saw that a minigame similar to the ball minigame in Mario Party 2 (wasn't it?) and a Parachutin' Gallery like minigame. Spiny Shell.pngSuperstarxalien169Spiny Shell Reverse.png 13:40, 17 April 2013 (EDT)

As you said, they may be similar rather than the game returning, it'd be better to wait for more information Yoshi876 (talk) 13:42, 17 April 2013 (EDT)

Image category

Should we still have an image category, even if it's a working title at this point?

I dont think we should not have one, since it's a working title.

Is it confirmed how many characters are in the game? And who is playable or not?

ESRB, Developer, Release Date

IGN lists that the ESRB rating is E. And lists the developer as Nintendo. It also lists the Release Date as Q4 2013. Chaossy (talk) 09:35, 29 April 2013 (EDT)

Boards have special mechanics?

I heard that all Boards will contain their own special rules, like Mario Party Nine, but without the Vehicles. So...is this confirmed?

Release Date

The release date on the page is incorrect. The source just shows the number of the month, it isn't the actual date. For example, Pokemon X and Y are release on October 12th but it shows 10 on that page because it's the 10th month, like November is the 11th. I don't think I can change it though. The dates for games which have them are shown in the smaller boxes above. r0ck (talk)

Fixed it, and in a few days you'll be able to edit everything. Yoshi876 (talk)

Gamestop says release date Mario Party 3DS

I was searching through Gamestop.com and it said for Mario Party 3DS that the release date was November 1st.--Mariobro101 (talk) 15:25, 22 July 2013 (EDT)

Sorry, but Gamestop is usually inaccurate and gives out false dates and can not be considered a reliable source. --Waluigi's head icon in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. Too Bad! Waluigi Time! 17:59, 22 July 2013 (EDT)
Some people say the release will be Nov. 17th, but we'll just have to wait until it's announced. CRode (talk)

I looked some where once and I saw that it would be released on November 22. Nintendoplayerawesome (talk)

Box art revealed, characters revealed, release date revealed.

Check it out. Here's the source.

Confirms a bunch of characters we haven't seen yet, including Yoshi, Waluigi, Boo, Flutter, Shy Guy, Kamek (could also be a generic Magikoopa), and Bowser Jr.

And according to this flyer, it's coming out on November 22nd in America.

  • Are there any sources that 100% confirm which characters are playable and which ones aren't? Right now, most of the inputs on the article appear to be mere speculation. RedYoshiMK7Signature.png M&SG (talk) 18:08, 28 August 2013 (EDT)

New Characters Playable or Non-Playable?

Are the new confirmed characters really Non-Playable? Or are they playable? Because Bowser Jr. is holding a shell like in a minigame. And Boo is holding a mushroom like an item. Should we add an "Unknown" section under characters? cause it doesn't confirm they're NonPlayable.

Well if they're not playable, then why are they on the box art that wouldn't make sense and I agree, Bowser Jr. is on the game board and Waluigi is holding cards hinting he's playable plus Kamek/Magikoopa is beside him. Rosalina is on the gameboard of the box art though of course she was seen on the side of the space themed rocket jet race but still she's on the game board. Yoshi is running with Wario on the gameboard in the boxart hinting playability. Nintendoplayerawesome (talk)

CRode (talk)

There is a source, but the source doesn't confirm their playability, so their status of being NPC is unconfirmed.

Would it be easier to just name the section 'Characters' and get rid of play-ability status until release date? Because at the moment we don't know that Yoshi is playable, or that Boo is non-playable so them being in those sections is speculation. Yoshi876 (talk)
I'd just rename the section "Other characters" so we don't muddle "playable" and "nonplayable" characters.

Hey, I found a site that shows Koopa Troopa being playable along Princess Daisy, Mario and Toad. http://andriasang.com/con0y3/media_create_sales/ That's the proof I found.

Just looked at that, and that's a screenshot of Mario Party 9. I remember that screenshot from a review I read of it. Yoshi876 (talk)

Crud, it looked convincing. I'll keep looking around to see if I can find anything. Oh yeah do you guys mind if I help out with this? Nintendoplayerawesome (talk)

Help out wherever you can. Also you don't need to add the unsigned template after your username, you should use {{User|your username goes here}}. The only reason I did was because it was unsigned and you were probably unaware. Yoshi876 (talk)

Oh ok, I'm just new at this. Nintendoplayerawesome (talk)

Toward the end of the trailer ([1]), the Japanese names for two of the boards (the mountain one and the space one) are shown. If anyone could give a translation of those that would be wonderful.

Perilous Palace Path items

There are conflicting reports that the items should not redirect to their inspiration items, though I think they should. For example, what good would come from creating a Setback Shell page? It would be a stub, with not much more information than what game it's from, the board it's used on, and its effect. Rather, I think it makes more sense to link it to the Green Shell page with an Island Tour section, where they mention the same info while also mentioning its name on this stage. MarioComix (talk) 22:17, 11 December 2013 (EST)

Australian release date

According to Nintendo Australia in November 13, 2013, Mario Party: Island Tour was to be released in January 18, 2013. I explain it because I do not have sufficient privileges to edit the page.--77.228.198.87 10:28, 13 December 2013 (EST)

Red Links

The page seems pretty littered with red links. Someone should really go in and create the articles that the links should go to, especially for the boards. I'd do it myself but I don't have the game. Watcher of Game (talk)

I have the game, I just don't know how to go about formatting the new pages. I'm great at following an example though. Agentdave7's Mii.Agentdave7 (talk) 14:53, 22 December 2013 (EST)
Look at other game boards from the series and see how they're laid out. Yoshi876 (talk)
I've created 3 of the board pages for now. They are really small because I haven't had time to get any details about them yet. I'll play the game right now to get more inforation. Agentdave7's Mii.Agentdave7 (talk) 15:15, 22 December 2013 (EST)
The better thing to do would be to play the game, then create the article so it's not a stub. Yoshi876 (talk)
I don't necessarily know what information to put. I'm not the best at writing articles. Agentdave7's Mii.Agentdave7 (talk) 16:51, 22 December 2013 (EST)
As I said earlier, look at the other gameboards, and they will contain the information that should be put in, it just needs to be changed to better suit the article. Take Goomba's Booty Boardwalk for example, it contains what game it appears in, what kind of setting the board takes place in, the layout of the board, how to get stars or complete the objective on the board and what certain spaces like ? Spaces do. Yoshi876 (talk)

Japanese logo and box art

In minute 8:34 of the Japanese Nintendo Direct conference on December 18, 2013, you can see the Japanese logo of Mario Party: Island Tour. I say that because I do not have privileges to upload the image, and I think it would be useful for the gallery, as the game is about to leave on 20 March. The Japanese box art is that:

Trivia: Rosalina

Should it be noticed/stated that Rosalina appears on the cover but has no real importance to the game? Usually important characters are the ones the covers.--Poponana2 (talk) 18:50, 31 December 2013 (EST)

I don't think that's a significant trivia. She's likely there to help represent the Rocket Road board. MarioComix (talk) 19:23, 31 December 2013 (EST)

Capture Card Help!

To anyone with a capture card and this game: Please take two screenshots for this page in the Boards section. The first one is the intro of Shy Guy's Shuffle City, and should be uploaded under the file name of "File:ShyGuy'sShuffleCityIntro.png". The second one is of Kamek's Carpet Ride, which should look like "File:Kamek'sCarpetRideIntro.jpg". PAL minigame names

ONM (Official Nintendo Magazine) has just done a review on this game, and they name a variety of minigames that have different names than the North American names. If someone could help add those, that would be great. MarioComix (talk) 18:33, 18 January 2014 (EST)

I have that issue of ONM so I can do some, but without the actual game I'm fairly limited. Yoshi876 (talk)
I have now done it, bar the ones that don't have articles currently. Yoshi876 (talk)
I have the PAL version of the game, if the minigames need both versions, I 'm happy to edit them. Also, Bowser's Peculiar Peak is called Bowser's Bizarre Volcano in the Australian version, not sure about the European. Mariofan24 (talk)

What's Mr. Blizzard's Snow Slalom's PAL name? User:Kirby kart

References to other games: 'Wii Party' comparison

Although not strictly a Mario game, 'Perilous Palace Path' board strikingly resembles 'Board Game Island's gameplay from Wii Party including: the linear board layout, roadblock that require dice rolls to progress/finish as well as the rewarded dice & order of play handed out after minigame play.

Boards column display

There have been many edits regarding the layout of the boards columns. Personally, I liked it when it matched the game's layout. Not only does it match the game, but it's also tighter and has a better feel to it. Also, the information in the boxes are not too squished so that shouldn't be a problem. However, I understand the rationale for keeping it in two columns, though personally I don't like that as much as if it matches the game's layout. A big bother I think is also that Bowser's Peculiar Peak takes up the most space; I think that if it were to be like this, the honour would go to Perilous Palace Path, as it also has a bigger box in the game. MarioComix (talk) 21:56, 21 January 2014 (EST)

Board Chart

Template:SettledTPP Template:ProposalOutcome The chart keeps changing between having Bowser's Peculiar Peak (BPP) stretching across 3 (6 technically) columns and having Perilous Palace Path (PPP) taking up 2 (4) columns at the top. When I made this chart, I intentionally put PPP across the top to match the menu settings, as all the other boards also corresponded with where they were on the menu. That style looked better and more professional, since it matched the menu and no one board was taking up too much space. Now, BPP is taking up too much space by stretching across the entire bottom, with most of it being an empty background. In the new layout, the third column is also larger than the other two and the split in BPP is not in the middle, looking unpolished.

Use the original layout (Menu style)

  1. Mario7 (talk) Per TPP.
  2. SuperYoshiBros (talk) The replacement looks horrible with Bowser's board stretching across the entire bottom.
  3. MarioComix (talk) Per all.
  4. Randombob-omb4761 (talk) Per SuperYoshiBros.
  5. Baby Luigi (talk) This obviously looks better by a light year. It's not the best solution, but it's far better than the current one.
  6. Walkazo (talk) - A better design would be to make one square blank, or one chart with three and one with four to fudge it, but of the given designs, this is certainly the lesser of two evils (more compact, less retina-killing red).

Use the new layout (Bowser's Peculiar Peak stretched across the bottom)

Maybe you can make the layout more horizontal (like in Mario Party 6 Boards) and add the difficulty and all that doodad below the description. I don't like either choice, honestly. Why? If there is an even number of boards, it can work, but since it's an odd number, there has to be some workaround. Hmmm... is there a way to create margins on the top row so at least all three cells have equal sizes? Icon showing how many lives Mario has left. From Super Mario 64 DS. It's me, Mario! Tables don't really lend themselves that that sorta thing. A better bet would be to just make one of the squares blank (i.e. 4 boards on top, 3 plus a blank on the bottom). Or make two tables, one for three, one for four, and stack 'em. - Walkazo 15:57, 2 February 2014 (EST)

I agree there minor, being different textured AI, but they are used differently over the 2 game types there in (they also have some minor story significance), so they should at least get a mention here on the games article. But they may be entitled to an article of there own, if you want to go to the effort and make it, go ahead but maybe a vote might be needed to decide if they truly need one or not. - Cubeguy2ver.pngCubeguy(talk)

From NintendoDSMovie's videos on YouTube showcasing Mario Party: Island Tour, some of the minigames have different rules and have updated the info on the following pages: Rope a Slope, Stretch Run, Grid is Good, Musical Snares, Goomba to Manuever, Kabob and Weave, Tanks a Lot, Mild Gunman, part of Spin the Bubble, Rat-a-tat Flat, part of Slow Glide, Get Reel, Top This, Slip 'n' Slip, Pachinko Wizard, Blown Hover, Slow G, Starring Artist, Pokey Corral, Hare Today, Great Bars of Fire, Fuel Me Once, Meteor Melee, Cheep Diamonds, Trounce 'n' Bounce, Squish You Were Here, Quickest Cricket, Diamond a Dozen, Flip Out, Bob-omb Aplomb, Gyro for the Gold, Match Faker, Goomba Tower Takedown, Chain Chomp's Lava Lunge, Mr. Blizzard's Snow Slalom, King Bob-omb's Court of Chaos, Dry Bowser's Brain Bonk and part of Bowser's Sky Scuffle. For all the others, I'm not too sure. If someone has the European or Australian version of the game, I'd like for you to update the pages for: Claiming the Cube, Tragic Carpet Ride (Mind Over Mattermouth), Color Me Fast (Sketchbook Scribble), Buzz a Fuzzy (Ready, Aim, Fuzzy!), Cannonball! (Wind Me Up!), Tap Dash (Find it First), Xylophone Home (Strike a Chord), the rest of Spin the Bubble, Tile Savvy (Slide and Solve), Hide 'n' Splat (Tox Box Shocks), the rest for Slow Glide (Balloon Glider), Sub Trouble (Submarine Subterfuge), Garden of Eatin' (Blooming Nuisance), Peep a Peepa (Scary Spotlight), Puzzle Pronto (Puzzle Hamper), Truckin' and Cluckin' (Hen Party), Color Correction (Whose Hue?), No-Traction Action, Spin and Bear It, Fisticlouds (Shuffle Scuffle), Deck Hunt (Skateboard Scramble), Paddle Skedaddle (Up the Creek), Git Along, Goomba (Goomba Rodeo), Cheepers Keepers (Hook, Line and Cheep Cheep), Drive for Show (Hot Shot in One), Hop Till You Drop, Helter Shellter, Bumper Thumper (Dodge and Driver), Horror Harriers (Jeepers Peepas), Slip Not (Ice Cavern Cascade), Mad Ladders (Rung Direction), Go With the Floe, Pool Buoy (Beach Ball Bedlam), Amp My Style (Beat the Buzz), Magmathon (Hot-Scotch), Shrub Hubbub (Ex-tree-me Gardening), Point 'n' Shoot (Seaside Snapshot), Sky'd and Seek, Utter Nonsense (Soundalike Star), the rest of Bowser's Sky Scuffle (Bowser's Ballistic Blowout), Three House (Fall into Line), Three House - Multiplayer (Fall into Line Versus), Emergency Hexit (Chain Challenge), Emergency Hexit (Chain Challenge Versus), The Choicest Voice (Soundalike Star Show), Ka-Goomba! (Goombas Galore), Sinking Feeling - Multiplayer (Towers and Infernos Versus) and Sinking Feeling (Towers and Infernos). It would also help that some minigame pages on this wiki don't HAVE THE RULES IN THE GAME. Once my time is freer I'll be able to assist with the NA side. MarioComix (talk) 01:21, 14 September 2016 (EDT)
Thanks! I should mention that some pages have the European rules but not the North American rules. If this is the case, feel free to label either "NA" or "NTSC" for the North American rules and "PAL" for European/Australian rules. Also, the Star Turn page doesn't have a Gameplay section yet. That can be helpful if that were filled out too. I don't know what the max level is yet. It might be 50 like Castle Clearout from Mario Party 9. Hopefully some European contributors can step in for the minigame rules. Owencrazyboy9 (talk) 10:03, 14 September 2016 (EDT)

I am currently a new user, but I noticed that in the article it lists "Card Space" as one of the spaces. Reorganize the board table in Mario Party: Island Tour

Template:SettledTPP Template:ProposalOutcome The board layout as is, currently enforced by the previous talk page proposal earlier in the page is something I'm not a fan of. The presentation of the table is dependent on the resolution of your monitor: while this is the case for all tables, in this case, the table assumes that you're using a wide-screen device to see all information within it. On mobile and shorter screens, there is no side-scrolling, thus the table cuts itself off, rendering the right parts of the table inaccessible to those viewers and thus, losing information.

When formatting information, you need to make a compromise between nice-looking tables for one device and usability on the other, and I think this table straddles on the usability. Hence why I think the table should be reorganized into a way that information is not lost to views who use shorter or smaller devices.

I propose to reformat the table that's traditional to pretty much how every other Mario Party articles have done it for consistency's sake (and mostly because they work, rather than this article's board listing layout). Take for example, Mario Party 2 and its list of boards. While it's not ideal, it uses a similar "rating" system that's organized in a way that's more friendly to mobile and smaller screen viewers. You can take a look at practically every other Mario Party article to see how they handle organizing boards. I'm not sure about keeping the colors in or removing them altogether, so I don't mind either way, and it's not really the goal of this proposal: it's up to the editors to leave them in or not.

This is a sample to what my new proposed table will look like. If there are any comments or suggestions to be made to my proposed table, I'd love to hear them.

Reorganize the board table to be consistent with other Mario Party articles

  1. Baby Luigi (talk)
  2. MarioComix (talk) Agreed. It's kind of awkward how it is now, anyway.
  3. YoshiFlutterJump (talk) I have this very problem. Per all.
  4. TheFlameChomp (talk) Per proposal.
  5. Alex95 (talk) - The present board setup looks awkward and doesn't fit on my own screen. Per Baby Luigi.
  6. Owencrazyboy9 (talk) Now I'm starting to see how much you need to scroll on mobile on a computer screen with small windows. Per all.
  7. YoshiStar28 (talk) Sounds like a great idea in my favor and after all, it's a fantastic idea! If we organize this, it will be just like in Island Tour.

Leave it the way it is

  1. Astro-Lanceur (talk)it's fine.
  2. Yoshi the SSM (talk) After doing some figuring, the proposed layout is actually worst than what is currently placed. Not horizontally, but vertically. For a little bit of horizontal freedom (being used on tablets and other short width screens), this proposed thing would not work. We'll talking about two Mushrooms of scrolling sideways with just a little vertical scrolling vs. no horizontal scroll, but twice the size (and it's looking better for mobile screens than for computers, which is over twice). For a small difference on a mobile horizontal scroll, having a larger scroll doesn't seem like a better option. This is my reason for opposing: it is better right now for both than it what is proposed. it isn't broken and doesn't need a fix. Note: I wished I did the figuring before my proposed solution. My solution is better for the computer, while Baby Luigi's solution is better for mobile.

Comments

I have a better idea to the solution. Keep it the same, yet cut it in half. I mean, it is used in the game. The only solution to make it better would be to split it in half and put the second part below the first part. Make any sense to you? Red Yoshi in a construction hat walking Yoshi the SSM (talk) 17:21, 1 December 2017 (EST)

Just because it's used in the game doesn't necessarily mean it'll translate well into wiki format. We don't have to emulate to a T to how the game presents it, and if the format the game does grinds on user accessibility on the wiki, then it's better to use a standard that actually works for Wiki viewing. I'm still in favor of keeping it consistent to the rest of the Mario Party articles, which don't follow how the games organize them either, and they shouldn't. Additionally, I'd like to mention that the Mario Tennis: Ultra Smash originally did organize characters in how they were presented in game, but the 3x5 grid was simply awful for presentation and is switched to this gallery format that looks much better.
Keep in mind that most of the time, I'm not opposed to organizing things to how the games organize them. But we've got to make exceptions in this case, and I think Mario Party: Island tour's board section should be the exception, believing that I think it's better for it and viewers to have it consistent with every other Mario Party article on the wiki. BabyLuigiFire.pngRay Trace(T|C) 17:30, 1 December 2017 (EST)

@Astro-Lanceur: It is not fine. BabyLuigiFire.pngRay Trace(T|C) 15:51, 2 December 2017 (EST)

@Baby Luigi: The table on your user page is not finished. It only has Perilous Palace Path and Rocket Road. Was this intended? -YFJ (talk · edits) 21:36, 2 December 2017 (EST)

It was intentional, since I didn't want to expend too much effort in case this proposal doesn't path. BabyLuigiFire.pngRay Trace(T|C) 21:55, 2 December 2017 (EST)

@Yoshi the SSM: I don't even understand your argument. The layout I'm proposing is currently a standard that we use across multiple articles in this wiki because it actually works, that's why it's even a standard in the first place. Practically all Mario Party articles EXCEPT this one uses a layout similar to the one I'm proposing. If this vertical scrolling is a problem for here, then it might as well be the central problem for the entire wiki (Mario Party: Island Tour's information on the amount of boards isn't even extensive enough to cause vertical scrolling problems, there's only what 8 boards?). What you also don't seem to understand that, while computers may have a better time handling a wider screen and reduce the amount of vertical scrolling required to find the section you want, the wide screen as it is renders narrower screens, aka smaller monitors and cell-phones unusable. The information literally gets cut off for view in mobile, meaning that a good portion of readers cannot access the information at all. For desktop users, a longer vertical scrolling in the mobile user's advantage is only a minor inconvenience at worst. We're not going to have the perfect solution, but I feel my compromise is the one that works best for both users concerned. Not to mention, good web designers try to avoid as much horizontal scrolling as possible when designing websites, because horizontal scrolling barely, if ever works at all when it comes to displaying text-based information, because information gets ridiculously hard to read when it's horizontal scrolling. BabyLuigiFire.pngRay Trace(T|C) 22:10, 2 December 2017 (EST)

I used a tablet with a short horizontal width and I didn't find it inconvenient to do that small horizontal scroll. And the others works because usually, there is no better option. This is because they work best as templates than tables or galleries. Each having their own best traits. I give it to you that vertical scrolling isn't going to play a factor (due to the page being long). But either way, if it isn't broken, don't fix it. And I don't think that it is broken the way it is.

I'm going to butt in and say that the current layout is the layout used in the actual game. Just saying. Toadette icon CTTT.pngFont of Archivist Toadette's signature(T|C) 23:46, 4 December 2017 (EST)
I already know this and I already addressed this. BabyLuigiFire.pngRay Trace(T|C) 15:41, 5 December 2017 (EST)

As per the previous discussion, I support a layout of two four-by-four, but the last one is a dummy cell. Current layout is indeed very bad and I'm not fond at all of the inconsistent width that gives undue prominence to the Perilous Palace Path cell. Proposed layout is not great in my opinion; too much empty space; might be a better idea to stack the ratings underneath the description. I'm also iffy on the article as a whole with its egregious use of confusing table layouts. The article is a work in progress, but by the time we reach the characters section, things look ugly. Icon showing how many lives Mario has left. From Super Mario 64 DS. It's me, Mario! (Talk / Stalk) 03:09, 8 December 2017 (EST)

If you want to talk about the article as a whole, regarding the characters section, we could talk together and work something out irl. BabyLuigiFire.pngRay Trace(T|C) 23:36, 8 December 2017 (EST)

There is one more thing I should mention before this passes. Banzai Bill's Mad Mountain and Star-Crossed Skyway are before Rocket Road. One reason I say that because I would like Kamek's Carpet Ride and Shy Guy's Shuffle City to be close together. Another is that Rocket Road is on a separate page than Perilous Palace Path in the game (The current table isn't wrong due to the second page being right of the first). The order can be viewed on the Template:Mario Party boards page. Red Yoshi in a construction hat walking Yoshi the SSM (talk) 14:06, 13 December 2017 (EST)

The order of the boards is rather debatable, especially when it comes to Shy Guy's Shuffle City and Kamek's Carpet Ride. This is what I think the order is:
  1. Perilous Palace Path
  2. Banzai Bill's Mad Mountain
  3. Star-Crossed Skyway
  4. Rocket Road
  5. Shy Guy's Shuffle City
  6. Kamek's Carpet Ride
  7. Bowser's Peculiar Peak
I got this order from reading each page left-to-right, then down. -YFJ (talk · edits) 01:09, 14 December 2017 (EST)
