Candidates and Voting
Shoey (talk) / Meta (talk)
Hello 'Shroom Readers, Staff Members, and people who accidentally stumbled upon this page. I, Shoey, everyone's 8th favorite 'Shroom writer, along with current Statistics Manager Meta Knight, are here to announce our candidacy for The 'Shroom Director and Sub-Director respectively. After the success of Issue 200, The 'Shroom visionaries Hood (talk), WT (talk), and NS (talk) have selfishly decided that they want a "break", sadly. Because of this, I'm pleased to announce myself as the most "get us by" 'Shroom Director candidate of all time I'm coming for ya Blocky (talk).
But first some qualifications!
Shoey
- Spent about 10 months as a Wiki Patroller between 2012-2013.
- Fun Stuff Director from February-June 2013.
- Activities Manager for like a million years until they got rid of the position for being worthless.
- Served on like 5 different Awards Committees, at least one of which ended without everybody hating me!
- Written almost as many 'Shroom sections as WT in the last 3 years.
- Currently serving as a consultant for The 'Shroom Staff.
Meta Knight
- Wrote various 'Shroom sections throughout his non-retirement time.
- Served as Strategy Wing Director for Issues 112-138.
- Served as Interim Sub-Director for Issues 115-118.
- Served as Director for the 2017 and 2018 terms.
- Current Statistics Manager since Issue 186.
So as you can see, I've served in a number of different little roles here and there, but nothing with any executive experience. Luckily, I've assembled the best advisory group in the world, consisting of four different directors:
- Meta Knight, my Sub-Director who spent two years as Director.
- WT, the current Fake News Director and backup Director candidate for the parallel universe where nobody wanted this job.
- The ghost of Super Mario Bros. (talk) whispering in my ear at night.
- Finally, the cornerstone of my administration is my dollar a year advisor, Hooded Pitohui.
It helps that this year is going to be a more laid-back year for The 'Shroom. We're not going to have any huge projects like Issue 200. Instead, it will be the standard, with the occasional extra additions such as the Poll Chairperson Election, Awards Director Election, Community Awards Dossier, and potentially other features for a summer diet-special.
One other thing is that, much like last year, we probably won't do a full holiday special in December. That's because our beloved Anton (talk) will be celebrating one-hundred issues with The 'Shroom Staff in 211 (which is in October). Because of that, we'll be essentially focusing efforts to celebrate Anton, which is more important than a holiday issue. So the main thing scheduling-wise will be coordinating a theme and date with the rest of the staff for the summer issue (likely June), and a hypnotizing special to figure out the best way to celebrate 100 issues of Anton for Issue 211, but nothing we do will be as big as Issue 200.
Goals
Since it will be a more laid-back year, we're not going to be focusing on big improvements for The 'Shroom unless they happen to come naturally, or if someone else brings an idea to us and it turns out to be good. That said, I do have a few goals in mind for some reforms.
- Successfully keep the lights on by making sure all 12 issues come out on time.
- SGOW writes a section for The 'Shroom. This is all I want. If I pull this off, I can die a happy man.
- Fire WT (note to self: don't include this in the public posting of this document).
- Grow the number of people writing for The 'Shroom (duh)
- Improve writer recognition/engagement.
The last one is what I think is the most important thing for The 'Shroom right now. I think our writer recognition is probably the biggest weakness currently. In my opinion, there isn't a lot of engagement with the writers directly. Issues go up and that's kind of it. I'd like to direct The 'Shroom toward a greater emphasis on the writers and their sections throughout the entire issue. I want to make sure that each team leads off their notes by highlighting each section to get the audience hyped. It would also help to make every writer feel appreciated since they are contributing on volunteer-basis alone. This notion would also apply to the Section of the Month tables. Poochy's Picks has been a welcome change to let anyone submit their favorite sections, but addressing the results throughout each team directly and showcasing what those sections were about is another way to keep people engaged. Critically though, we want to make sure all writers are consistently acknowledged, featured, and appreciated in each area of The 'Shroom they appear in. Consequently, this will be the big thing we try to improve in the upcoming 'Shroom term.
Why you should vote for us!
Quite simply, the reason you should vote for us is because, much like Guy Reschenthaler of Pennsylvania's 14th Congressional District, we're the only game in town! In all seriousness, I won't lie. Me and Meta are definitely "get you by" candidates. We have the simple goal of keeping the lights on in a post-Hooded Pitohui Director term before he inevitably directs again. However, we both still have a lot of passion for The 'Shroom, with myself having contributed over 100 sections last year. I dragged Meta out of his comfortable retirement because really that's been a big goal of mine all along. It's his own fault for agreeing to it.
: I've casually mentioned being an emergency pick in the past, and it appears that there is still no one available so... Shoey asked if I'd be his Sub-Director and here we are.
For those of you who don't know me, I am Meta, some people refer to me as MK, and others use my full moniker; they're both correct. I've been involved with The 'Shroom since 2015, as writer, Director, retiree, and now I'm the Statistics Manager. If you really want the full story, you can read this lovely recap.
Shoey has basically said everything relevant already, so I'm not going to regurgitate that. If this ticket is elected and I'm to be Sub-Director, then I will make sure to keep up my efforts to help maintain The 'Shroom's standards. Honestly though, 200 was the biggest milestone in quite some time, so I expect this year to be a bit easier to manage. Realistically speaking, I've already been "oiling the machine" so-to-speak by implementing a lot of various things under the hood thanks to my current position, so to you all it wouldn't really be that much different from how it is now.
Votes
- Super Mario Bros. (talk) — Shoey's and Meta Knight's campaign promises both stability as well as solutions to recognize the volunteer writers of The 'Shroom. They will make an excellent team.
- MightyMario (talk) — I have full confidence Meta Knight and Shoey will be great as Director and Sub-Director. One step closer to world domination!
- Lakituthequick (talk) — These are two people who care about the paper, so my votes goes to thee.
- Shy Guy on Wheels (talk) — Shoey's enthusiasm for The 'Shroom is unmatched, so it's high time he took the top position for it. With Meta Knight as sub-director, and an all-star team of former Shroom Directors to advise them, I'm certain that The 'Shroom will be in excellent hands. (only gripe is that I might have to actually write a section now)
