Scorching Sandpaper Desert
The Scorching Sandpaper Desert is full of archeological evidence of a distinct ancient civilization dating back several thousand years. As of yet, I haven't identified the endonym by which they called themselves, so I'll refer to them as "Ancient Ones."
Drybake Desert
The murals in Drybake Stadium might point to a connection between the ruins in this desert and those of the Ancient Ones. The way Toads are depicted is almost exactly the same — however, Drybake Stadium has motifs not seen in the Scorching Sandpaper Desert, such as Goombas and Koopas. Furthermore, the Yoshi Sphinx found in the area has no such murals, which might suggest it was made by a different culture.
