Name

This alleged "Prima name" can barely even be called that. The context is that Prima's gold enemy listings simply group the variants together. The illustrations of the Gold Goombas, Gold Paragoombas, and Gold Goomba Towers are listed under a single header, with the name "Gold Goombas" referring to gold Goombas as a whole rather than any specific variant. For that reason, we should not take this as an official name. I've already made preparations to have the Towers moved since they're named in Puzzle & Dragons: SMBE, but we don't have such a convenient source for the Paragoombas. We do, however, have a Japanese name. Let's use that (and do the same for any other instances of this). 21:49, April 4, 2020 (EDT)
- That's entirely unnecessary. The Prima guide also says "all varieties of Gold Goombas" - this implies that all enemies pictured are variants of Gold Goombas, meaning that the name "Gold Goomba" refers to all of the enemies pictured. By this logic, we can say that "Gold Goomba" is in fact an official name. Plus, using common sense, using the name "Gōruden Patakuribō" would be extremely user-unfriendly and make the article nearly impossible to find. JoeRunner (talk and stuff) 22:27, April 4, 2020 (EDT)
- Not going to happen, as per JoeRunner's statement. (T|C) 23:26, April 4, 2020 (EDT)
- There is precedence, though. I'm not saying this is a good or bad idea, but it's still something to consider. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 23:34, April 4, 2020 (EDT)
- It's still not as good of an idea as you think. Big Grrrols were never given an official name to distinguish them from normal-sized Grrrols, as they don't even appear listed as enemies in the relevant Prima guide. On the other hand...well, see JoeRunner's comment above. (T|C) 01:05, April 5, 2020 (EDT)
- You seem to be very confident that JoeRunner's argument is completely uncounterable, without realizing how flawed it actually is. For one thing, it relies on a misinterpretation of the guide text. Specifically, the "varieties of Gold Goombas" line, which is simply referring to the different types of Gold Goombas collectively. Gold Paragoombas and Gold Goomba Towers are varieties of Gold Goombas in the same way that regular Paragoombas and Goomba Towers are varieties of Goombas. It does not automatically mean "Gold Goomba" is their actual name. They're simply grouped together on the page for convenience; it's not like Prima guides were written for the express purpose of giving this wiki names to use. On top of that, his argument that using the Japanese name will this article hard to find is ridiculous; the current name is already unintuitive. Anyone searching for this article will search "Gold Paragoomba" because that's what any sane person would expect them to be called; from there, a redirect will take them to what they're looking for. 01:54, April 5, 2020 (EDT)

- It's a good thing she never said it was a good idea - only that Dai Goro's case is pertinent to this one. There's a section on MW:NAME about Prima Guides, but only pre-SMG ones; at the same time we lack any other source beyond the official Japanese name to go on, and if "user unfriendliness" wasn't enough to preempt the usage of Japanese names in previous scenarios, I'm a bit pressed to see why it would be a factor here - it's not the most intuitive name, but beyond that I think we can make it and any related articles intuitive enough to find and navigate through. -- Lord G. matters. 01:44, April 5, 2020 (EDT)

Plus, Gold Paragoomba would be more user friendly. DarkNight (talk) 21:44, June 25, 2020 (EDT)

Per my comments above. From the Prima guide: "All varieties of Gold Goombas behave exactly as they do in their normal forms." This is clearly just referring to Gold Goombas as a whole, as in "Gold Goomba and its variants", it is not supposed to imply that all of them bear the name "Gold Goomba", since that's completely ridiculous; I think even Prima is above that (even taking the whole "all large Bullet Bills are King Bills in NSMBWii" garbage into account). While "Gold Paragoomba" would be the ideal name for this article and what any sane person would expect it to be called, there is unfortunately no source for it. So we have to use the Japanese name instead. It still beats the current name, which is confusing, unintuitive, illogical, and relies on blatantly misinterpreting a strategy guide.

- 7feetunder (talk) Per proposal.
- Waluigi Time (talk) If this is the only "source" for the Gold Paragoombas being called Gold Goomba, then yeah, that's clearly not the intention...
- Archivist Toadette (talk) I can't believe I overlooked the "variants" part in the above discussion. Shame on me, I guess. Per proposal.
- Lord Grammaticus (talk) Per all.
