MW:Image Maps

Since your proposal passed, I updated MarioWiki:Image maps accordingly (with proper accreditation). But I've held off on scrapping any of the unnecessary Image Maps ({{PDSMBE-map}}, {{NSMB2map}}, {{NSMBmap}}, {{SMW2YI Map}}, {{YIDS Map}}, {{YISMA3 Map}} and {{SMWmap2}}) in case you wanna orphan them yourself before marking them for deletion: your proposal, your first dibs on any of the maintenance work. hey fyi

if the wiki has a ruby characters template, it should probably be used for those flavor texts since thats what the original cards do. - 2257(Talk) 14:12, 7 November 2015 (EST)

like, a template that lets you print tiny hiragana above the kanji, the way it is on the card. you can see it on wikipedia here. i don't know if this wiki has one or not, since im several years out of the loop - 2257(Talk) 14:19, 7 November 2015 (EST)
actually, looking at the code of that page it seems like its not a template at all, but just a html thing: 東京(とうきょう). i kind of feel like it should be a template if it's going to be used on this wiki, though, just so it looks cleaner in the code - 2257(Talk) 14:25, 7 November 2015 (EST)

The W3C's Requirements for Japanese Text Layout says that

When the size of base characters is very small (for e.g. smaller than seven points), ruby which is half the size, will be even more small and illegible. In such cases [...] ruby is not a suitable method of annotation.

The font size is usually 12.7px for main text, and even smaller for references. In such cases, I don't think it's a good idea to use ruby characters except in special divs where the font size is increased for that purpose:

それは、とおくなるほど、むかしはなし

あるちいさなほしで、おんながさびた星船ほしぶねつけました。
そこには、ちいさな星の子チコんでいました。

In the already-too-crammed {{foreign names}}s, I think it's better just to use mouseover text for that purpose. A gossip-loving Toad (Talk) 01:05, 5 June 2016 (EDT)

Hello!

I was just wondering how you created this image, as it seems very clear and high-quality, and I would like to know how it was made. Thanks!   (T · C) 16:36, 23 November 2015 (EST)

woah :o I usually take my models from the Mario Kart 8 section, as it has every character I would need, all pre-rigged and textured. I've used the 3D World model before, but that was when I had no idea what to do. I tried to do what you said with the model, and I came up with something that looked okay. I'll show you the render once I'm finished with it.   (T · C) 02:56, 24 November 2015 (EST)
My Blender process is sort of like yours- it involves the same few steps. Firstly, I find a good set of models to work with. Normally, I use Mario Kart 8 models, as they are pre-textured and have good quality riggings. I do use Super Smash Bros. U models from time to time, but only with models without multiple faces (although I will try the layers thing you said, it seems like a good thing to do). For my userpage picture and signature, I used the Shy Guy model from Mario Sports Mix. It has quite a lot of bones that I can work with. I also have a customized blue and pink Shy Guy. I don't use anything special for re-texturing, as PAINT.NET does the trick easily. For some models, I have to go with non-rigged, but that is usually okay, as I work round it.
For lighting, I have three options- Point, Sun and Spot. Point is like a light-bulb, and I can adjust the energy and colour of it if I need to. The sun creates a constant light source in one direction, and the Spot concentrates a spot of light into a position, like a spotlight. Normally I go with sun for most renders or animations, but I put points in when I need to lighten a certain area. If I want props or background scenery, I download random objects to put in. The final thing I do is go onto render and world settings, and adjust the camera. Its default is to unload objects at around 100 units of distance (not that far), so I turn that off. Secondly, I change the sky and add mist, if it is a scene. For renders, I leave it blank and remove the background in PAINT.NET. Finally, I turn on ambient occlusion and indirect lighting, both settings that vastly improve the lighting and colours.
I'm not sure if any of this is familiar with you (I think it would be- Maya seems to be a lot like Blender), but I found out most of these things just by experimenting (I once found an option that makes the image able to be viewed with 3D glasses). I am still very new to these things, and I hope I can only get better, and you should too.   (T · C) 02:54, 25 November 2015 (EST)
It's done! I first tried to do my own version of yours (here), which turned out okay. I retexured a Mario Kart 8 Mario, and tried to replicate what you did with the lighting and position. I think I nailed it down pretty well, it's just that Blender has a sort of grainy quality, and can't do any fancy light rims. However, I made up for that by making the background fully transparent from the start. With the launcher, I added a reflective texture on, and turned down the gloss, as I would expect a rocket launcher to be a little rusty. I also tried my own scene (here), in which I experimented with Sweet Sweet Galaxy, which originally came textureless. I hope you like it!   (T · C) 16:02, 25 November 2015 (EST)
Yeah, the graininess is an issue, however it's only noticeable when the lighting is set up wrong- adjusting the energy and angle of the lights fixed the problem. The texturing issue with the ear was a small mistake on my part, I'll make sure to readjust that next time. However, when my renders are animated, they do tend to look nicer.   (T · C) 04:05, 29 November 2015 (EST)
Thanks! I only noticed the squares once you pointed them out to me- next time, I'll crop them just in case. About the vandal, yeah I shouldn't really talk to them, that kinda just blurted out.   (T · C) 14:26, 6 December 2015 (EST)
This. Once I get the sprite sheets, I use Paint and Paint.NET to crop and remove the background of the bit I want, e.g. Luigi's idle pose. I also have to change any pure black to a colour identical to the eye, but with a different data value.. thing. Once I've set it up, I put it into the program and select the number of rows and columns, then remove any blank frames. The program exports it separately in rows, so I piece them together in E-Z gif and change the speed. I can also crop the images if I need to, and do any other enhancements. After that, I download the finished product and upload it here. Before I used the program, I idiotically saved each individual frame in a separate file, and then put them together that way. If I feel especially proud of a gif, I upload it to imgur, because everyone cares. I think that's how most other sprites on this wiki are made.   (T · C) 14:49, 6 December 2015 (EST)
P.S. I tend to only animate the sprites that look exiting or have a lot to it, otherwise it just feels boring. The interface is a little confusing at the start, even though there's like 4 buttons, but I got used to it quickly.   (T · C) 14:54, 6 December 2015 (EST)

"don't use the color picker"

...I didn't. I rescaled it (nearest neighbour) down to the size of the pixels. Same with all of them - at no point did I redraw anything from scratch.

And with this, I did the same thing with the NOE Twitter pic. (Which I notice you haven't undid the {{aboutfile}} change for...) - Reboot (talk) 18:39, 4 December 2015 (EST)

Yeah, didn't realize that. We used to have users going around and creating their own sprites from those screenshots if you've seen the edit history. I don't see the need to scale the images, though since they're already rescaled in their pages. I suppose it won't be that different when the rip comes, but I don't think it's imperative to scale them. As for Frog Mario, I'd just crop it rather than scale AND crop it.

The thing is that the Wiki scales these things very badly, inherently - if they were uploaded 8-bit (or less) colour *and* were perfectly cropped (no borders) *and* were precisely scaled to X00% of original-size, it might be okay. But as it stands they're a blurry, smeary mess in the article. (Also, for some bizarre reason the Mario Trio one is out-of-ratio. The "pixels" in the picture uploaded to the NOE Twitter account are vertical rectangles when they should be square).

Note that I wasn't presenting them as rips, and indeed said quite clearly in my upload descriptions "still need rips". It was intended as an interim step. - Reboot (talk) 01:32, 7 December 2015 (EST)

Homo sapiens sapiens

Hey! This is in response to this edit. First, let me say I agree about the inclusion of "(sic)". I had actually thought about it some time after removing it, and all in all I think it should stay. Also, the reason I gave ("outdated denomination since 2003") was mostly nonsense and I was mistaken by the French Wikipedia. That being said, (and this might be a little bit too technical for MarioWiki), but as far as I can tell, Homo sapiens sapiens is a subspecies (which only encompass modern humans, but that's not the point). Considering we only know Mario's species (and not his subspecies), it makes more sense to compare his species with our species (and not our subspecies). Would you agree to remove the second "sapiens" from this trivia?
Banon (talk · edits) 15:38, 1 January 2016 (EST)

I do remember you (even though you changed your name)! I see your point. I think "Homo sapiens sapiens" is the best choice, because more preciseness is always better. However, saying "not the same species as a modern human (Homo sapiens sapiens)" kind of implies that H. s. sapiens is a species, which is false.
In that case, just be glad this isn't RoadRunner Wiki, because Wile E. Coyote and The Road Runner have a different genus every week :p
Also, may I suggest moving the trivia entry about Mario's height to the "Physical description" section? Oh, I think the section "Edutainment games" might breach the manual of style. It's against policy to separate appearances based on media, rather than series. Athough maybe you could argue the Edutainment games constitute a series. Uh. I don't know!
Banon (talk · edits) 18:49, 1 January 2016 (EST)

Please, take your time! I was simply pointing out a couple of things I'd noticed. Of course, I didn't want to made drastic changes on an article you're currently working on, so I thought it'd be best to discuss it with you :) As for the sapiens stuff, I think talking about both species and subspecies might be a tad confusing, but overall you handled that trivia pretty well and I think it can stay that way.

Your Recent Removal of Content

I don't know why you think you're fine removing content like this. You wouldn't go around removing sections like this on other character pages, would you? You wouldn't be in the right then, either, but what I'm saying is, you're singling out this character's sections for no specific reason. If you wanted to remove the appearance section for that reason, it is your opinion that all appearance sections should be removed. And you're not providing any real reason for removing the personality section, other than you said you think it was padded fluff. But why? How? You're not supposed to remove content like this. UhHuhAlrightDaisy (talk) 22:25, 8 January 2016 (EST)

I call it "trimming" rather than removing content. Sometimes, it is general wiki practice to insert general information section in articles, but I'm often not fond of "appearance" sections throughout this wiki, which go through several pains to describe every single detail and its kitchen sink. Generally, I'd keep "appearance" section dedicated to how and why a character is designed that way and/or if a character has seen one or several notable design changes. If not applicable, I'd keep description on either the beginning paragraph or section of the debut game. If the character is much too minor, such as Skeeter, goes through several design changes, it's fine to simply note it in every game it has a change. But anyway, "appearance" section should go since it accomplishes virtually nothing an image can't.
I'm not explicitly removing content from "personality", although I still ended up removing a lot of information because I feel it's essentially repeating certain personality traits several times. It's also telling, not showing what Arcade Bunny is. You can cut off "Arcade Bunny has an extroverted personality and earnest demeanor." and cut straight to "The Arcade Bunny is easily excitable, becoming animated and passionate about his interests or when explaining something." Again, I removed "he can also be very humble" and replaced it with "He is quick to apologize for his unusual or exaggerated behavior" which has the implications that he's humble and has a earnest demeanor or maybe other implications left up to interpretation. I also changed "intense" to "exaggerated" to make it more in line with his "animated" demeanor. I removed the "he uses a lot of informal speech, using contractions and filler words often" part since it is vague (what's "filler words"?) and tells us nothing special about his personality, since informal speech is usually a given when you're doing chitchat. Arcade Bunny also has a decently-sized quotes section, so it's already inferred here that he talks like this and that.
Again, to reinforce "show, not tell" I also cut some words in " The Arcade Bunny is an avid gamer, being very enthusiastic about video games and admitting that he works at the arcade so that he can play the games as soon as they come out." and went straight to the point, "The Arcade Bunny, enthusiastic about video games, admits that he works at the arcade so he can play the games as soon as they are released." although you can add "[...]an enthusiastic gamer, admits that he works at the arcade so he can play the games as soon as they are released.
I finished with several words cutting cut and not quite enough for its own section, so it seems that I'm removing chunks of content. In the end, the only thing I really removed is "appearance" for reasons I've already explained and the "personality" is simply rewritten and relocated.   It's me, Mario! (Talk / Stalk) 22:50, 8 January 2016 (EST)
Why would you call it trimming when you're removing an entire section, then? His appearance section, like others I've worked on, explain the basics in a basic manner of writing, as many prefer. Are you implying it goes into lengthy detail? It is already really short and concise as is. "I'd keep "appearance" section dedicated to how and why a character is designed that way and/or if a character has seen one or several notable design changes. If not applicable, I'd keep description on either the beginning paragraph or section of the debut game." There's a section for that too, the Development section. Most characters don't have confirmed reasons for what you're talking about, though, so it doesn't make sense to apply your own, personal view of what an appearance section could be. And it doesn't make sense to talk about the character's appearance in those places when you can put it in the appearance section, where it is obviously more appropriate. So that's the thing, just because you're not "fond" of appearance sections or how they work, doesn't mean you're valid in trying to remove this one, specifically, because again, even as you're outlining here, you therefore would want to remove all appearance sections. So what I said in response to you points out why we have appearance sections, because why would we include it in a game section or in the intro when it is more appropriate in a section talking about the character's character information? And "You can cut off "Arcade Bunny has an extroverted personality and earnest demeanor." and cut straight to "The Arcade Bunny is easily excitable, becoming animated and passionate about his interests or when explaining something."" Because you're supposed to tell and show. You state his personality, and then exemplify it, you don't just cut-out enough to try and shove a mere-mention of his personality in the wrong part of the article. UhHuhAlrightDaisy (talk) 23:26, 8 January 2016 (EST)
I said "trimming" because that's what it is. Otherwise, the fuss over that specific word choice strikes me as pedantic. You have to elaborate what "the basics in a basic manner of writing" is, specifically defining what "basics" is. I haven't seen it in our Manual of Style for starters, but even if it is its own section, it doesn't mean it's a required aspect of a complete article. About "lengthy detail", not quite. The problem with "general information" here is the amount of space it creates for the article and the table of contents; for something this small, I think a nice paragraph in the beginning can cover. Furthermore, there's an unwritten rule that highly recurring or more complex characters get these sections, which the Arcade Bunny is decidedly neither. The development section covers generally only the character's origins, but it often gets reiterated in the character's general appearance section. I'm actually not familiar about the "creation and development" sections in the wiki as I am, with merely "creation" being its own section (as in Mario and Bowser) and "development" taking up a bulk of "appearance" later in the article. Development can refer to appearance, but it can mean a whole other lot of stuff such as gameplay, personality development, etc. while appearance can focus on physical changes only, and I think it would be more interesting if the writing was about changes rather than description. There aren't specific guidelines on writing on appearances aside from "fan worship" section in Good Writing, but I think it's agreed here that character's description on mere appearance should be as light as possible.
On appearance sections in general, I think we have a misunderstanding here, so I'll elaborate: I'm highly critical of how most appearance sections are written, especially when the majority of them were written likely prior to the Good Writing policy. That does not mean I advocate removing them. In the meantime, "appearance" in Arcade Bunny is unnecessary; therefore, it should be removed, whereas "appearance" in Wario and Princess Daisy are needed (since the two are major recurring characters) but may require rewrite. Not all articles need an "appearance" section especially when a paragraph covers it and there isn't any policy specifically stating this, although you seem to think that they should.
Finally, "show, not tell" is actually a standard in writing, which can also apply to drier wiki writing. The point is, let readers get their own implications; writing is more interesting that way. You don't have to outright state what his personality is. If readers see that "he is excitable and animated", it's already strongly implied he's "extroverted" anyway.   It's me, Mario! You could also use that same image for Gallery:Super Mario Strikers because I see it is kind of lacking or Super Mario Strikers#Trivia to demonstrate the 16:9 part. It can be the title screen. Henry Tucayo Clay (talk) and I are working on something. --Wildgoosespeeder (talk) (Stats - Contribs) 17:59, 4 February 2016 (EST)
Scratch that. Just make it a screenshot of you playing a game of soccer in 16:9. --Wildgoosespeeder (talk) (Stats - Contribs) 04:49, 5 February 2016 (EST)
I'll see what I can do.   It's me, Mario! (Talk / Stalk) 13:31, 5 February 2016 (EST)

Any time!   It's me, Mario! (Talk / Stalk) 19:37, 5 February 2016 (EST)

I'm giving you credit for adding those sprites.

You know, Bazooka Mario, I am gonna give you credit for adding the sprites of Mario & Luigi's overworld idle gif, ad Mario's battle gif, all three from Mario & Luigi: Paper Jam.

And I was asking: Can you please ad gifs of Peach, the Toads, and Toadette in their idle poses? (Peach, Red Toad, Blue Toad (normal and with a sack), Yellow Toad, Green Toad, Purple (or pink) Toad, and Toadette) Oh, and don't forget about Starlow's. I would NOT forget about your sprite animations. ;-)

Dry Bones sprite

Your new upload, File:Dry Bones (sprite) - PMSS.png is a duplicate of File:Dry Bones (PMSS).PNG. Niiue (talk) 20:30, 15 January 2016 (EST)

Well, dammit, I wouldn't have known this was used in the bestiary, but I thought we didn't have a sprite because I didn't see it in Dry Bones's gallery, list of stats, or, well, anywhere else. Thanks for letting me know.   It's me, Mario! (Talk / Stalk) 20:32, 15 January 2016 (EST)

2015 Mario Calendar

If you are going to do each month in the calendar, here is a very high quality source: calendar. It is JPEG so any artifacts will either be preserved if saved to PNG or amplify if you save further JPEGs. --Wildgoosespeeder (talk) (Stats - Contribs) 00:27, 16 January 2016 (EST)

Oh? You are going to do that with it? That reminds me; to remove some images from Category:Images to be reuploaded with higher quality, can you apply transparency to:
  1. File:BlockSpriteNSMB.png
  2. File:CoinsStar.png
  3. File:Crystal Balls.PNG
  4. File:Merluvlee.png
  5. 9 Wario's Woods sprites
Don't forget to apply PNG Monster to them. --Wildgoosespeeder (talk) (Stats - Contribs) 01:26, 16 January 2016 (EST)
I see you forgot to apply PNG Monster to the images. I went ahead and did that. It now annoys me when PNGs aren't as small as possible file size wise. :P Playing Super Mario All-Stars, the crystal ball looks clear when Birdo is defeated inside and out. If you aren't sure, use Spriter's Resource. --Wildgoosespeeder (talk) (Stats - Contribs) 03:17, 16 January 2016 (EST)
No problem. Thanks for the transparency on the images I tagged a bit ago. --Wildgoosespeeder (talk) (Stats - Contribs) 03:29, 16 January 2016 (EST)
The SNES is harder to add transparency to some objects because of advanced graphical effects it can perform compared to the NES. I think it is even capable of having translucency because if you check List of Super Mario World pre-release and unused content, the game was going to have these effects but were ultimately canceled (File:Lunartnew.gif). Good work none-the-less. --Wildgoosespeeder (talk) (Stats - Contribs) 03:37, 16 January 2016 (EST)

hello

Nice for you to start the proposal to split Badge and Clothing by game, they made the main articles really neat. Did you know that pages like "Big-POW Badge" needs to change from

#REDIRECT [[Badge#Big-POW Badge]]

to

#REDIRECT [[List of badges in Mario & Luigi: Partners in Time#Big-POW Badge]]

? On the other hand, if a page said "[[Badge#Big-POW Badge|Big-POW Badge]]", these links should be updated too. --A gossip-loving Toad (talk) 06:55, 4 February 2016 (EST)

Yup, I'm aware that ALL of the redirects need to be changed. It's pretty overwhelming, so if anyone can drive by and make those redirect changes, it would be great.   It's me, Mario! (Talk / Stalk) 13:32, 5 February 2016 (EST)
I have some free time and I'll take them. A gossip-loving Toad (talk) 19:57, 5 February 2016 (EST)
Thanks! Please do!   It's me, Mario! (Talk / Stalk) 19:58, 5 February 2016 (EST)
I encountered a problem: The list of clothing for Paper Jam is under construction. Is the name list accurate and comprehensive? A gossip-loving Toad (talk) 20:27, 5 February 2016 (EST)
Not sure about that.   It's me, Mario! (Talk / Stalk) 01:25, 6 February 2016 (EST)

I finished most of the work, except that the pages List of clothing in Mario & Luigi: Dream Team and List of clothing in Mario & Luigi: Paper Jam still lacks anchors. (Beware that some Paper Jam items have two versions under the same name. Be sure to make the disambiguation pages point to the correct entry.) Also the following pages are occupied by other stuff and I don't have experience. Can you handle them?

Thanks. (If you don't want to add the anchors, I'll add them with the help of regular expressions.) A gossip-loving Toad (talk) 05:56, 6 February 2016 (EST)

[2016-2-7 update]: Unused badge names in Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door still point to "Badge", but I don't know whether I should direct them to List of badges in Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door#Unused Badges of Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door or List of Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door pre-release and unused content#Badges, as the same table is duplicated twice on the Wiki. A gossip-loving Toad (talk) 04:37, 7 February 2016 (EST)
Probably redirect them to the latter. For the pages that share anchors, you might need to create disambiguation pages.   It's me, Mario! (Talk / Stalk) 16:33, 7 February 2016 (EST)
[2016-4-30 update]: Anchors now have been added to List of clothing in Mario & Luigi: Paper Jam and List of clothing in Mario & Luigi: Dream Team. There doesn't seem to be anything else that needs to be updated (am I right?). Incidentally, 100+ disambiguation pages have been created during my February 5 journey and this MediaWiki wiki does not recognize the magic word __DISAMBIG__ so the page count on the Main Page increased by that amount. When it's day in China it's night in America so it's funny to see 100+ "articles" appear overnight, I think. (By the way, don't forget to check MarioKid's question below.) A gossip-loving Toad (Talk) 11:57, 30 April 2016 (EDT)
Yeah, I had to answer MarioKid's question. That's unfortunate. Anyway, thanks for all of that. :) I'd imagine. Heh, I have Chinese heritage.   It's me, Mario! (Talk / Stalk) 20:21, 30 April 2016 (EDT)

SMB film proposal

Really sorry, but in light of the info posted by LinkTheLefty at the eleventh hour, we had to admin veto the proposal. Ideally, the info would have come in sooner to give everyone a chance to consider it and make fully informed decisions, whether they were opposing or supporting, but unfortunately, all the votes that would have given the proposal an extension came after the deadline (I actually forgot the deadline was today, otherwise I would have switched votes earlier, but instead, decided to mull it over all day, until it was too late - argh). You can relist the proposal immediately if you still want to, as long as the "it's the basis for the games, not a version of the games themselves" Word of God info is included, as we do consider that sorta stuff part of the canon (i.e. Miyamoto saying the Koopalings aren't Bowser's kids), and so, it must be taken into account. - Walkazo 23:46, 4 February 2016 (EST)

Fair thing. It just has to be pointed out in (film character)s' pages and it would be extra golden.   It's me, Mario! (Talk / Stalk) 19:41, 5 February 2016 (EST)

Sometimes I want to flop in bed and do nothing

I haven't had a good night's sleep in months and I feel so good. My dreams involve nothing but doing work with the occasional Mario adventure interspersed between them. I want to be a zombie, that way I can have an excuse for shambling everywhere. Maybe I should eat pancakes, I swear I have some in my freezer that I should probably eat. Maybe they're waffles. Are you a pancakes person or a waffles person? This post feels like a bad idea but the common sense part of my brain turns off whenever I'm tired. Hello, I'm Time Turner.

Remember that proposal I did?

Well... turns out it was sort of a dud. Recently, L151 came on chat and told me that the Japanese name of Pondskaters was in fact the same as the Japanese name for Skeeters, so all that splitting I just now did was for nothing. To be honest though, I should have verified what the Japanese name was before deciding to split them. Now I feel silly for not doing that. >_<--UM3000

Japanese names aren't a surefire end-all solution for naming, but it does weaken our case a bit. Still, there are cases where enemies do have same Japanese names, but different Japanese names, like Cheep Chomp but remain split due to major differences in appearance, behavior, and English names.   It's me, Mario! (Talk / Stalk) 16:36, 15 March 2016 (EDT)
In this case, the only functional difference really is that you can't kill them by jumping on them. Not sure if that's big enough to warrant another article. UM3000
Well, what about behavior? And that you can't defeat them by jumping on them IS a pretty major difference. Combined with Mario's inability to perform punches and kicks, which do defeat Skeeters, perhaps we can still make a case there.   It's me, Mario! (Talk / Stalk) 19:38, 16 March 2016 (EDT)

Why do you hate Yoshi, Donkey Kong, and Koopa Troopa?

I'm just curious as to why you dislike these three characters. I mean, DK is one of my favorite characters, and Yoshi and Koopa were always amongst my favorites to play as in Mario Kart Wii. It's fine with me if you dislike them, but I just was wondering. --MarioKartDoubleDash (talk) 16:09, 17 March 2016 (EDT)

Hi, Bazooka Mario, it's MarioKid here, listen I kinda forgot my password and I have no e-mail, so do you think I could use a new account as a total restart and clean slate? I don't know if that's allowed though... Hope it is. Comment made by a not logged in MarioKid

I can't do that, but you should let a sysop/bureaucrat know about your situation just so they don't think you're sockpuppeting. Once you inform the user, then you have your old account renamed (such as from "Mariokid" to "null") and you can then safely sign up under "Mariokid".   It's me, Mario! (Talk / Stalk) 20:23, 29 March 2016 (EDT)
Thanks for the help. How can I contact a sysop/bureaucrat? Comment made by a not logged in MarioKid
You notify an active one here. I'd normally point you to Walkazo (talk) since she handled those sorts of issues well, but you must ask Glowsquid to handle name changes since he is the only one available who can do this.   It's me, Mario! (Talk / Stalk) 21:05, 29 March 2016 (EDT)
Thanks! The account was renamed and I have started over! I am also willing to take the autoconfirmation test again too, because that was kinda fun. MarioKid (talk) 16:33, 30 March 2016 (EDT)

some random words

Hello Bazooka Mario, I finished updating those redirects long ago, but forgot to tell you (sorry). By the way, after that experience I think it would be much better if MediaWiki can have something like {{definehere}}. We can use that template to introduce the badges and clothings, and Mario things in general. After every edit, MediaWiki can re-examine the existing {{definehere}}s and put them into a table. The table will consist of all Mario things being described in this encyclopedia, and can be used to guide the reader to relevant info, so that a reader searching for "Big-POW Badge" can be automatically taken to where {{definehere|Big-POW Badge}} is. (If there are two the software can generate a disambiguation page on the fly.) This way, editors no longer need to maintain redirects, disambiguations, or those "A redirects here for B see there" notices manually.

Also, after you became aware that the redirects needed to change, did you seek help somewhere? It'll be much better if there can be a place on MarioWiki:Maintenance where editors can post cleanup requests. There are some people such as I who are willing to take such tasks.

A gossip-loving Toad (talk) 09:15, 1 April 2016 (EDT)

Oh sorry, I didn't mean to migrate entirely to it but my words didn't make this clear. Actually, I agree it will cause brave-new-world trouble to make it automated (like for Rosalina to have the Lumas automatically taken care of by Luma feeding machines). Please just take that proposal as an April Fool's one. A gossip-loving Toad (talk) 23:09, 1 April 2016 (EDT)
I don't know if it will be insensitive to mention her name here, but I've been staying up late mourning for Walkazo until midnights these days and I'm feeling very sad about her death too. She was not just performing administrative tasks but also taking good care of the wiki, answering questions here and there and weaving many parts of the wiki together using the power of plain English words. She knew well how to make the wiki better and sometimes she would even appear on the talk page of an editor whose main activity here was to add Korean names and romanizations to the foreign language boxes to help the user. And now she has passed away at such a young age and I hope there can be something to keep her spirit going on forever here. Sometimes when I saw someone weaving many parts of the wiki together making it neater I thought it was she again. That was how I missed the old time when I was doing some minor maintenance work such as manually updating those redirects as if I were weaving something too, or more exactly, as if I could give the impression that someone else was secretly improving the wiki over the sky.
By the way, I'm afraid I can't help in the request at the end of this page. I'm a bit busy these days and now have only an Android tablet. A gossip-loving Toad (talk) 00:03, 4 April 2016 (EDT)

odd request

I don't mean to be rude but I had a childhood friend who died the exact same way as walkazo and I really don't want to be reminded of her every time I look at the main page, especially since she was also a big mario fan, so if someone could do something about it that would be nice. I have a type of personality disorder which causes me to have emotional stress triggered much more easily than most other people

Unfortunately, we cannot please every single person in the MarioWiki. Regardless if the feeling is pleasant or not, we must deal with it now and in future. I believe coping with it now will help you and me become stronger and overall better people. This rings especially true for Walkazo's family who have to deal with this all up close and personal and cannot just hide these feelings, which their loss will haunt them all day for a very long time. Since I'm not an expert on psychology, I cannot give you emotional advice on how to cope, so I suggest you ask your therapist or go see one to help you cope with this. Please talk with someone about this. In the end, though, this is reality and we should accept it rather than hide from it.   It's me, Mario! (Talk / Stalk) 18:10, 1 April 2016 (EDT)

Still tired

Between the half-dozen wiki projects I put on myself, the articles I have for The 'Shroom, and the plethora of essays and homework I need to complete for college, I've been keeping myself busy. What I wouldn't give to wrap myself in a blanket and jump into a Mario game at this very moment... If you've had to deal with a giant workload in a short timespan before, I envy your ability to survive. It doesn't help that I took a week off from school to recuperate. I basically couldn't complete any work for days. I want to take it easy, maybe goof off on the forums and take some more time to gather my thoughts, but life suuuuuuucks. Taking some time here to talk about it helps. Hello, I'm Time Turner.

Proposal Active

I remember you having a few issues with me on how I was using {{image-quality}}. I now have a proposal active to address these issues. Please look at it when you have the chance. --Wildgoosespeeder (talk) (Stats - Contribs) 21:11, 9 April 2016 (EDT)

Oh wow! Homebrew for 3DS no flashcard required (it seems)? I've been occasionally trying to pay attention to 3DS and Wii U homebrewing progress but haven't found anything worth my time, unlike Wii Homebrewing, which has quite an ideal setup. I'll be sure to check out what you have shown me and update User:Wildgoosespeeder/sandbox, especially homebrewing a PNG file instead! I really don't like the JPEG format, but for the longest time, best screenshots were either hardmods intercepting screen data or just settling for Miiverse saving screenshots as JPEG. :/ --Wildgoosespeeder (talk) (Stats - Contribs) 22:29, 9 April 2016 (EDT)
It looks like I am out of luck for now because I have the latest 3DS OS and no exploit will work right now. :/ It was an interesting sharing from you. Thanks! --Wildgoosespeeder (talk) (Stats - Contribs) 00:46, 10 April 2016 (EDT)
Flashcard as in 3rd party 3DS cartridge. Nintendo tends to revise the 3DS OS to block those things from being recognized by blacklisting certain Game IDs or something. The only method that would work for me are the free to play games or the web browser exploit. I do have Smash, but the exploit states I need the New 3DS and I still use the old one. The other exploits I either don't have the game or the exploit won't work anymore regardless of what I do with my 3DS. So I just need to wait for new exploits or revisions to existing exploits to allow the version of 3DS OS I am running to run the exploit (if any). --Wildgoosespeeder (talk) (Stats - Contribs) 20:55, 11 April 2016 (EDT)
I have some exciting news related to 3DS homebrewing: [1] This might be the entry point we have been hoping for with our 3DS systems still being denied homebrew. This might be similar to browserhax. I heard that 11.0.0-33 blocks Oot3dhax. --Wildgoosespeeder (talk) (Stats - Contribs) 15:55, 30 May 2016 (EDT)
Don't get too excited because the reveal that happened yesterday is an exploit in a very obscure game. [2] I thought it was going to be a QR code exploit when you press  +  in the system menu. Our best chance is the revival of browserhax. --Wildgoosespeeder (talk) (Stats - Contribs) 15:41, 4 June 2016 (EDT)
As for concerns about my new additional tags, please voice them. Maybe I can address those concerns or make tweaks if I did something unwanted. Just trying to propose a system taking inspiration from Bulbapedia's, but way simpler than what they got and to be a better fit for MarioWiki's needs. --Wildgoosespeeder (talk) (Stats - Contribs) 22:29, 9 April 2016 (EDT)

Replied. I am just going to ask Henry Tucayo Clay (talk) to cancel the proposal. The feedback is telling me something is majorly wrong and some major revisions need to be made to it. Can't be done in one week. --Wildgoosespeeder (talk) (Stats - Contribs) 20:55, 11 April 2016 (EDT)
  • Potato image; there's subjectivity in that phrasing. I have an idea what a potato image is but that leaves room for interpretation. I tried to define how my proposed tags should be used on the sandbox pages themselves. How should we define {{image-quality}}? Here's my list of what I think you think is a potato image:
  1. Bad cropping
  2. Blurriness
  3. Too small
  4. Used a camera to take a screenshot of a game
  • OK, I think I know where this proposal went wrong. You were under the impression that we would be going through ~70,000 files if the proposal passes. I never stated such a thing. One tag for ~70,000 images in which ~1,000 tagged seems like we outgrew {{image-quality}}. I said we would be going through the currently tagged images if the proposal passes, which is ~70x less images to go through. Maybe I should have specified that any future tagging would be done through casual browsing of MarioWiki. This tagging thing isn't going to be like a "sweatshop" process. We tag images like we always have before. The only difference is we have more tag options and less subjectivity.
  • OK, propose removal of the {{Convert to SVG}}. I knew so little about it so it makes sense for someone who knows the tag a little bit better than I do to decide the best course of action on what to do with it.
  • I have given some thought how to bring attention to RAP (talk)'s pages. Tag his user talk pages with {{image-quality}}? I was corrected that may be wrong use of the tag but it's the best tag to use. I have taken small stabs at the replacement project, whether I knew I was or not, such as replacing most of the Diddy Kong Racing images. I even edited the page containing Diddy Kong Racing with strikethrough.
  • You say you don't want to restrict the templates but between you and Baby Luigi (talk), both of you have been very vocal about my {{image-quality}} usage. It's very contradictory to me. It sounds like you do want some kind of restriction on them. I just don't know how to proceed. :/ --Wildgoosespeeder (talk) (Stats - Contribs) 23:14, 11 April 2016 (EDT)

I'd want to do it, but I don't have the powers for that. This isn't the first time someone asked me to do something way beyond my powers, and I'm so worried that other staff members, especially the higher-ranking ones simply don't have the time nor dedication to help users with password problems. Walkazo was best at handling that kind of stuff and... ugh, well, you should leave a message on one of the admins' talk pages or e-mail them and please try to get a result. All I can think is just create a new account, explain to a bureaucrat your problem, and have the created account renamed.   It's me, Mario! (Talk / Stalk) 18:16, 11 April 2016 (EDT)

Wandal

Hi Bazooka Mario, I have a question. Why do you sometimes refer to vandals as wandals? I noticed in some edits you called them wandals. Fawful's Minion 13:08, 21 April 2016 (EDT)

English grammar about "there is"

I'd like to ask a question about English grammar: There is a rule that if you start a sentence with "there is" and keep listing things, whether to use "is" or "are" depends only on the first thing enumerated:

There is a Toad House and a Goomba House.

while:

The Toad House and the Goomba House are in the north.

Would the rule apply to "In the north of Goomba Village [to be] a Toad House and a Goomba House"? I'm going to describe the areas in Paper Mario in full detail and find myself writing sentences like this a lot and would like to know what you native English speakers think about this. User:Zootalo said that the preferred form of "to be" in that sentence was "is" but my English teacher said it should be "are". By the way, do you Americans recognize "in the north" as "in the back side, far from the camera" when looking at a picture like the one to the right? Thanks in advance. A gossip-loving Toad (Talk) 21:23, 30 April 2016 (EDT)

Hm, the structure of the "in the north of..." sentence is weird; it's an example of subject verb inversion. In this case, "a Toad House and a Goomba House" would be the subject, a plural, and you should give it an "are". You can look at the flower example in the link I provided.
a. Some flowers are in the vase.
b. In the vase are some flowers.
But since the sentence structure might be awkward and confusing for you, I'd rearrange the structure, "A Toad House and a Goomba House are in the north of the Goomba Village."
I believe "north" is generally correct, but we like "northern side of the village". If you say "in the north of Goomba Village", it might refer to a northern location outside of Goomba Village. It's not really about the camera, but about general direction. In games with a camera that does not move, up on the control stick means "north", down means "south", and so on. 不用謝。 No, I don't speak it at all; if you go all Chinese on me, I'm gonna ask my Dad >:)   It's me, Mario! (Talk / Stalk) 21:54, 30 April 2016 (EDT)

The sentence from the article "The Honeyhive's Purple Coins"

When Mario reaches the area where the Power Star for the mission Honeyhive Cosmic Mario Race is found, a 1-Up and a ledge with a Purple Coin on it.

seems to lack a predicate? I was cleaning up links to disambiguation pages when I found this. Not sure if the "1-Up" should link to "Extra life" or "1-Up Mushroom" since I was in desperate need of a verb. A gossip-loving Toad (Talk) 10:16, 14 May 2016 (EDT)

Yes, it is not a complete sentence. Even native speakers can get fooled by the length of the sentence, but just because it's long doesn't guarantee that it is a complete sentence. It should be "When Mario reaches the area[...] he can find a 1-Up and a ledge with a Purple Coin on it." The article should link to 1-Up Mushroom. Extra life is simply a broader term, but in this context, it helps to be specific.   It's me, Mario! (Talk / Stalk) 16:57, 15 May 2016 (EDT)

Great job, here are some suggestions :

  • Chez les Thwomp, les liens sont plus solides que le roc! (At Thwomp's place, the lineage is more solid than rock!)

My suggestions :

  • Chez les Thwomp, les liens sont plus solides que le roc! (At Thwomp's place, the connections (or links) are stronger than rock!)
a. Stronger = plus fort, plus solide
b. Connections = liens, liaisons, ce qui les unis (Eg : Ces liens qui nous unissent) peut également se dire (Can also be said as) links ou (or) united (États-Unis = United Stated)

Here:

Yoshi happily digests it, causing Rex to swear and realize that Yoshi's stomach is tougher than lead. Mario demands Rex.

My suggestions :

  • Yoshi happily digests it, causing Rex to swear and realize that Yoshi's stomach is tougher than lead. Mario ask (or question) Rex.

De l’anglais, j’entends rarement l’usage de "demands", "ask" est plus répandu. In English, It's rare that I hear the usage of "demands", "ask" is more prevalent

Other than that, everything else is perfect, I'll read and reread to check every little thing and let you know my suggestions. If you were talking about the translation from English to French, everything is good. Let me know more. :) -- (TALK) 00:12, 1 May 2016 (EDT)

Thanks, I'm glad that I can help you with this. "solid" because "rock-solid" is a common similie/metaphor. Is this the same in French? Oh, I also said lineage because in that chapter, Thwomp is visiting his father and Mario and Yoshi fight them.

  • For the rock-solid, yes, it become "solide comme le roc", I understand your translation now and for the Thwomp one also.

The rest , I think, is perfect. If you need help with translations, I'm here. :) -- (TALK) 00:21, 2 May 2016 (EDT)

Should these be deleted or can you repurpose those files? --Wildgoosespeeder (talk) (Stats - Contribs) 13:26, 5 July 2016 (EDT)

So these images are not duplicates of existing images or should be part of an existing page covering an issue of Super Mario-Kun that hasn't been linked yet for some strange reason? For the main Super Mario-Kun article, would it be a good idea to create a gallery for all the comic book pages found in Category:Super Mario-Kun Images, even creating a new Gallery:Super Mario-Kun? For the unnamed comics, I guess our best bet is to go through Category:Comics, if a page even exists that matches the images. Re:

Thank you very much for the source; I'll get started on adding the official source (the cover has a "© Nintendo" in the corner, so I assume it's official) as a citation. On a side note, the names from the Daijiten match up with the names from the manga. Even though it provides no citations and has less accountability than a regular wiki, it's surprisingly accurate. Actually, what may be more important than the official names are the official artworks. It'd be handy to crop the image and add it to each enemy's article (instead of putting the group shot everywhere and saying "near the middle" or "at the top-right corner" for each enemy). American English custom?

Hello Bazooka Mario. In American English, when describing locations, is it customary to start from smaller area to larger area? For example,

The Star Piece is under a hidden panel to the right of the slope in the back of the area with a Save Block.

and

In the area with a Save Block, there is a slope to the back. To the right of the slope is a hidden panel containing the Star Piece,

which better fits an English-language encyclopedia like this wiki? I find it difficult to overcome the cultural differences given how East Asians are accustomed to expressions like "Japan Tokyo" instead of "Tokyo, Japan". If Americans find the first sentence above more natural, it'll make me more confident sticking to that style. -- A gossip-loving Toad (Talk) 09:27, 25 July 2016 (EDT)

Excellent News!

I was successfully able to use Homebrew Launcher using browserhax on 3DS and submit clean PNGs of a 3DS game (File:Mario SM3DL2.png and File:SM3DL 2-2.png)! It claims to run on latest firmware (11.0.0-33)! --Wildgoosespeeder (talk) (Stats - Contribs) 03:10, 28 July 2016 (EDT)

Oops! Forgot to mention where I learned the news. here and here. If it wasn't for you saying something about 3DS homebrew to me as a way to get clean PNGs for my screenshot guide, I wouldn't have been able to find and unlock a world of awesomeness (although it has been on the back of my mind but with no clue of progress or where to begin)! Thanks! --Wildgoosespeeder (talk) (Stats - Contribs) 18:32, 28 July 2016 (EDT)

This week is just full of surprises! Today, stickerhax was released for Paper Mario: Sticker Star. I got this secondary exploit to work because I have this game. It does overwrite my save, but I didn't progress very far anyways where it actually mattered to me. --Wildgoosespeeder (talk) (Stats - Contribs) 15:29, 30 July 2016 (EDT)

The browserhax and stickerhax exploits work on all 3DS units at this current time. Just use this page for reference in the future. --Wildgoosespeeder (talk) (Stats - Contribs) 20:06, 30 July 2016 (EDT)
I had the same issues too. Turns out browserhax is not very reliable. Hiccup (talk) tipped me off on that one. Don't ask me how HANS works better with say stickerhax than browserhax. It just does. You may have a better time with oot3dhax. It's included with the homebrew starter pack. If it is anything like stickerhax, it may overwrite your OoT saved games. --Wildgoosespeeder (talk) (Stats - Contribs) 20:20, 30 July 2016 (EDT)

Now that 3DS homebrewing is a thing for us, the starter pack includes mGBA, a very accurate GBA emulator, better than VBA-M. I ask because I think you said you had a n3DS. I use the o3DS. According to HANS, the processor for o3DS is 268Mhz while a n3DS is 804Mhz. mGBA for me is very sluggish running any game. If I am right, mGBA should run with minimal slowdowns for n3DS units. You can verify this by turning on frame rate (there is an option). Proper speed is 60fps. --Wildgoosespeeder (talk) (Stats - Contribs) 02:18, 31 July 2016 (EDT)

I don't have OoT3D to try oot3dhax but I have heard issues arose after some 10.x.x-xx updates. Last I heard, there is a working version for 11.0.0-33 (latest firmware at this time). Bummer not owning a n3DS directly, but ask your brother to try this homebrew stuff out then and report back to me what the results are. --Wildgoosespeeder (talk) (Stats - Contribs) 20:17, 31 July 2016 (EDT)

I see you tested uploading PNG screenshots through HANS for Mario Kart 7. I take it you finally got oot3dhax to work? If you are afraid of edit sniping, I don't mind if you take on the same images I probably would. Replacing images with high quality counterparts is time-consuming, just like it is with editing an article to be accurate with information and be worded properly. --Wildgoosespeeder (talk) (Stats - Contribs) 21:25, 1 August 2016 (EDT)

Mario Party 6

Here's what needs to be spruced up:

  • Some of the intro needs to be rewritten. Speak Up is a minigame within the Mic Mode for starters.
  • The story section should be rewritten. The instruction manual bio is fine, but our wiki writing is subpar.
  • The organization is a mess in this article, specifically the "Gameplay" section. The orbs section is far too high up, before the mentioning of the pivotal, important Day and Night section. Spaces should also be under the header of the Gameplay section, and a Solo Mode-only Space table needs to be constructed.
  • This could benefit from a modes section, with each mode being its own subheader.
  • Why is the Star Bank materials a list when it's covered in the Star Bank article?
  • Empty sections need to be filled.
  • Reception section should be more expansive.
  • We still need to take pictures of the remaining orbs.
  • Version differences should be a list, like how some WarioWare articles (like how WarioWare: Touched! handles it)
  • A lot of pre-release and unused content can be gathered at The Cutting Room Floor, as well as regional differences.

Anything else? It's a lot of work but I think we can do it.  Ray Trace(T|C) 19:37, 17 August 2016 (EDT)

Gameplay basics. We cover the basics for Super Smash Bros. and Mario Kart games (since it was a point in UNFAs before), might as well cover it in the Mario Party 6 article too. Once gameplay section is beefed out, we can add a board gameplay screenshot; Mario Party games in general do not have a lot of board gameplay screenshots, and Mario Party 6 is no exception.   It's me, Mario! Heyyyyy!

Don't worry, I already knew. A lot of people reference it in their forums signatures or on their userpages. She was among the nicest and most experienced people on here. It really came as a shock. But on a sidenote, your talkpage is making my computer lag like insanity for some reason, so I might come back later to bug you with conversation. Fawfulfury65

The reason being is that LGM's talk page is large as hell.  Ray Trace(T|C) 21:09, 28 August 2016 (EDT)
Yes, indeed, I was secretly thinking that too. Fawfulfury65

BTW: I noticed that you uploaded a lot of screenshots for the Diddy Kong Racing tracks (wayyy back in 2013 apparently). I'm assuming you have it on an emulator? If you do, and I don't get too busy, I'm probably going to restart expanding those articles, and some pretty pictures would be nice x) Fawfulfury65

It might help if Bazooka Mario made an archive of this talk page.   Yoshi the SSM (talk) 22:15, 28 August 2016 (EDT)

^Don't worry, it sounds like there will be another cleansing by the defenders of the Mushroom Kingdom. This page seems to be under the powers of Wario, and it is time to put it out of its misery.

Sure, let me in on any recent Wiki/life/userlife news if you feel okay with it. I have been missing out. I actually really like being here again. It's a good community and there's much to work on. Especially those DKR articles. They suck. I will do some work on them, hopefully. College is starting soon, so I'm worried I will disappear again, but I'll try not to. Fawfulfury65

The good thing is that we're all here on the Mario Wiki to support you! We all have our troubles at the end of the day, but we're all united in our nerdiness. Most of us here probably spend too much time with our computers and with our "mindless" video games, but that's what brings us all together. And that's very important. I would have been very worried about you too at that time. It wouldn't be the same without you here. Especially for me, because you and your sister were there to greet me as soon as I came back here, and I was so glad to have some old friends to talk to. Fawfulfury65
And believe it or not, I don't think I'm going away. I've found too much stuff to do, and I really like it here. I start college on Friday, though. I'm worried that I will be too busy to have any other life anymore. The good news is that since game design is my major, I can pretend like I have an excuse to play games. Fawfulfury65

3D animation seems like a lot of work to me. I tried to work with Blender last year and found it too complicated to get into without instruction. I stopped using it once I started the school year and got too busy. Well, I hope your Walkazo commemoration is going well. I know you're busy with all that stuff, so you don't have to do lot of work for me if you don't have time, haha! A render would be super cool, though, especially if we're talking about fixing up that Hammer Bro/Fawful thing on my userpage that was edited using Paint when I was like 11. The only thing (and the scary thing) is that I've considered changing my username, but I don't think I could ever get myself to do it. I've been FF65 for over seven years, and I still think Fawful is the best Mario character, but I've changed quite a bit in seven years too. Fawfulfury65 has a nice ring to it, though. I just realized that there's a lot of f's in my username. It makes my username really easy to type. (*continues rambling about username*) Fawfulfury65

Um...

Hi. I saw your comments on Fawfulfury65's talk page. Although I hope I could do more than mere consoling, I'm not a psychologist and don't know what to say, so I'll just let you know: you're a good editor and it's nice to see you here. This may sound cheap, but it was my true feelings in the recent months after recovering from the grief Walkazo's death caused and being active again. And I'm sympathetic with your feelings too. Two years ago I was experiencing similarly terrible feelings my parents caused. After that, I've learned to change my focus from how terrible I was to external things like Mario games. And fortunately, though my parents went all out to destroy my self-esteem, they didn't restrict my Internet access so it was fairly easy to do so. That's how my life returned normal (those concerning Walkazo's death was a different story). Since I've never been to the United States, I'm unable to give practical suggestions, but the book "The Conquest of Happiness" by Bertrand Russell might be worth checking out. -- A gossip-loving Toad (Talk) 02:53, 3 September 2016 (EDT)

3DS Firmware Update

Nintendo just released less than 24 hours ago 11.1.0-34 for 3DS. Don't update if you want to keep your Homebrew freedom. Some people have updated and reported homebrew non-functional. --Wildgoosespeeder (talk) (Stats - Contribs) 14:46, 13 September 2016 (EDT)

There is a glimmer of hope. Try setting up steelhax. I think that the Nintendo eShop blocks older firmwares so you are going to need to use this tutorial. It's a free game. I didn't need to use ctr-httpwn because I already had the game downloaded for years. All I needed to do was delete Steel Diver data that wasn't software data. The rest was easy, but it takes a few tries to get the installer to succeed in causing corruption in the save data to launch homebrew. Just like stickerhax, that was another game I was willing to part with, even more so than Paper Mario: Sticker Star. According to this page, stickerhax and steelhax work on 11.1.0-34. I advise you update Homebrew Launcher and stay on 11.0.0-33 just to be safe. --Wildgoosespeeder (talk) (Stats - Contribs) 01:01, 16 September 2016 (EDT)
Updating Homebrew Launcher might have bug fixes, compatibility fixes, new features, etc. so that way issues are minimal and freedoms are high. Actually what I said a few weeks ago might be dated. It might be safe to update 3DS firmware but browserhax is dead (for now) if you do update at this time. Just be sure to check out the exploits page so you know what is compatible on latest firmware. --Wildgoosespeeder (talk) (Stats - Contribs) 14:54, 29 September 2016 (EDT)
OK, after getting over possibly losing homebrew, I can say that it is safe to update to 11.1.0-34. Before you do, make sure you have steelhax working on 11.0.0-33 or below. That's important. After updating, you need to overwrite the payload on the root of the SD card with a version compatible with 11.1.0-34, which if you scroll down this page to a bunch of drop-down boxes, fill them out, and click otherapp, you can get it updated manually. When you install hacks such as stickerhax or oot3dhax, it downloads the appropriate payload for you. Without updating the payload, the handheld will give you an error message instead of loading homebrew. Then you will need to redo any other exploits you setup. I had to redo stickerhax. I think this is standard procedure for any firmware update, if it is an update to attempt blocking exploits. --Wildgoosespeeder (talk) (Stats - Contribs) 22:44, 30 September 2016 (EDT)
