Star Medal (Super Paper Mario)

Star Medals are octagonal golden medals that can be collected by the player that appear in Super Mario 3D Land and Super Mario Galaxy 2. In Super Mario 3D Land, there are three in each level and can be used to unlock even more levels. In Super Mario Galaxy 2, however, there is only one in each galaxy and when the player collects them, it can mean a Prankster Comet can reach that galaxy with the collected Star Medal. Each Star Medal is hidden in a different place, and the player has to look hard to find them. Some of them are easy to get while others are hard to get and need skills, a bit like Star Coins.
