New Features
So much to say!
- Special:EditCount – available to everyone and counts all edits, giving a breakdown by namespace.
- Special:Patrol – Only to sysops & patrollers, goes through an edit diff one by one and gives you the options to accept, revert, or skip it.
- Special:Chat – The biggie. The chat is now accessed through the wiki. It's on the sidebar if you haven't noticed yet.
- MediaWiki Version: 1.8.2 → 1.10.0. New features:
- On recent changes, +/- # of bytes that were added or removed to the size of the page is now seen. Total size of article in each revision seen in history page.
- When protecting a page (sysops only), option to make the protection expire at a certain point, or use "cascading protection": all pages linked to the protected page will also be protected.
- When a new article is created, and an edit summary is not specified, the default is the first 100 or so characters of the article.
I'll add more as I see them. Wa TC@Y 18:53, 13 May 2007 (EDT)
Cool. Not that I can use Special:Patrol....grumble....grumble....
- Teh new features are FTW! Great Gonzo
Yup. Except the chat is stupid now. 22:07, 13 May 2007 (EDT)
A chat under control is stupid. Chats were made to be free.
- Then make a seprate room... Great Gonzo
So, Special:Patrol just takes the most recent page edited and let you see the difference? Is there a way to choose which pages you wish to see? -- Chris 01:48, 14 May 2007 (EDT)
- So far I don't think you can control what pages are seen, and I got pages starting from May 9th. Wa TC@Y 18:34, 14 May 2007 (EDT)
- I understand what the practical use of such a feature is, I just don't understand how we are to utilize it. -- Chris 20:41, 14 May 2007 (EDT)
It makes it feel like Wikia. Not that that's a bad thing. 3D, kinda, but not.
Short Articles
Um can't we merged short articles to longer articles such as Apple For example?Cause with short articles like this it doesn't look good.F g
FAs
Uh,I dont like the idea of cancelling the FAs and I dont care if the new enforced article standard will be, but I liked it better when we had FAs nomination,Then who's idea is to cancelled it?Any comments?F g
- Mine and Wayoshi. Apparently, no one was following the standards set up on THIS Wiki. - A Link to the Past 14:17, 15 May 2007 (EDT)
What does it mean by peer review?-- Aipom
You know what Mr.Past? you simply irritate me.F g
And not only that, but your negative comments here annoy me as well.F g
- Does it look like I care? You're complaining because articles not up to THIS Wiki's standards were labelled as such. Get over it. - A Link to the Past 15:45, 15 May 2007 (EDT)
- While I may not know what you look like, you need to tone down the attitude. You can be constructive without being condescending. -- Chris 01:41, 16 May 2007 (EDT)
I'll cite one thing. Standard #3 on the FA list says "no point of view". All the FA articles had a biased POV. Wa TC@Y 15:48, 15 May 2007 (EDT)
Meh,you dont simply understand do you?But do this all have to go your way?F g
- I do. A featured article implies that the article follows all criterias, and is great as a result. None do. - A Link to the Past 15:51, 15 May 2007 (EDT)
I agree with Alttp about the FA nomination. Every article about a somehat major specie/character was nominated, even thought they we're far from being up to FA standard. iit was like everyone looked at the number of paragraph and picture, rather than the content itself. Gofer
Okay fine then arguments over and case closed.F g
That for sure, most vote were'nt because of the quality itself, but rather because the voter liked/disliked the character, argument we're mostly ignored. Gofer
- Yes, not to point fingers, but many were bias and we did nothing about it. Great Gonzo
A lot of articles were getting nominated recently, for no apparent support reasons. So, I guess I'm O.K. with it. Whats the new system? - Ultimatetoad
Peer review, you ask someone to review an article that you think is FA worthy, that what I think. Gofer
Which is pretty much what we did before. Can we submit a past FA for a review? 19:41, 15 May 2007 (EDT)
With only about 25ish active users and only a handful of articles that are really noteworthy, bias is going to happen. FAs are a bad idea for a wiki focusing on such a broad subject. -- Chris 21:22, 15 May 2007 (EDT)
Super Abilities and Super Strikes
An editor wrongly redirected Super Abilities, which are special captain moves in Mario Strikers Charged, to Super Strikes, which are completely different moves in Super Mario Strikers. I have deleted the redirect, but I cannot delete the page. Could someone either write more in that space or delete it, please? --Stumpers
- Done. In the future, just mark it for deletion and will be deleted when a Sysops gets around to it. -- Chris 01:46, 16 May 2007 (EDT)
- Thanks. How do I mark it? User:Stumpers
- Type {{Delete|Reason}} Great Gonzo
- Thanks, GG. And than you for stoping the carnage back there on the MSC article ;) --User:Stumpers

Announcement relating to the merging of articles.
It has been decided that before an article may be merged, it must be discussed on the discussion page with a merge template placed on the article. - A Link to the Past 22:56, 15 May 2007 (EDT)
- This.....is how we normally do things....-- Chris 01:42, 16 May 2007 (EDT)
- Except that merges are actually possible now that we have a policy. - A Link to the Past 02:14, 16 May 2007 (EDT)
- I hope we don't go merge happy <:( --User:Stumpers

Linking to Peer Reviews
I request putting a link to MarioWiki: Peer Reviews in the Wiki Stuff section of the Main Page. - Cobold
- Done. Someone could spruce up the description, though. -- Chris 12:07, 16 May 2007 (EDT)
"Sudden" Change -- Oligarchy? Rash movement? I feel I am to blame.
For those who don't know, an oligarchy is a community ruled by a few powerful figures.
I emailed one of our fondest contributors, Son of Suns, and tried to convince him to return. The following are excerpts from the reply, which I think are important for everyone to read.
I feel like the wiki is becoming the voice of the few, not the many. I was not even contacted about FAs, even though I wrote like half of them. Where is the community involvement?...We built up so much, but it just got torn down. I don't feel appreciated, and I am ready to move on...I know a lot of FA nominations were poor, but they were shot down before they could become FAs...Why the sudden change? Most of our articles attempt neutrality - but we are a wiki about a video game series. Is Yoshi not a hero? Is Bowser not villainous? They are opinions, but opinions created by Nintendo...The wiki seems to be out of the community's control and in the hands of one or two influential voices. A lot of new merging has also soured my image of the wiki. I believe that any officially named creation is worthy of an article...but the wiki is now finding a philosophy I don't care for. I just don't want to be a part of it anymore.
This raises a lot of concerns for me personally and us.
- I feel terrible now that I only mainly consulted ALttP in FA removal. It was not fair to the community, and I feel I am now partly responsible for SoS's departure.
- Suddenly ALttP & I are doing everything the last week. I am going to make sure everything is approved by the community first before doing anything more. Expect a list of proposed things on a MarioWiki:Proposals page soon.
- Should we have an article for every official named thing in the Marioverse, or is the new way right, to merge minor things into a list?
In the end, I'm afraid we have lost one of our best members. I don't want it to happen again to another big contributor in the future, so while we are still going to change, the community as a whole will have to approve each of these changes one by one so that the wiki has what it wants. This includes a possible reversal of peer reviews and lost FAs, as the community did not decide this, I did.
That is all. Leave comments as you wish. Again, I apologize for unfair actions. Wa TC@Y 15:29, 16 May 2007 (EDT)
That was 8'( sad. But it's true. so true. Max2 (talk)
I wouldn't blame Wayoshi for that but ALTTP maybe...F g
ITS ALTTP FAULT! GANG UP ON HIM!

You thought I was serious? The problem is that both side of the argument don't try to discuss and reject the blame on eachother. Some change are good, other... not so much. We should discuss about the change and see which are good, and which are not. Gofer
I am calm, you don't understand joke, do you? Gofer
The "debate" about the name of Mario striker is one of the most balblant exemple of the collapse of this wiki. Idiot toddler whining at each other, without trying to bring an argument. TH FR TH MMR...
I know. It was pathetic. There was so much good going down with that article. Sure, there were a few fights over it, but overall, we had something cool there that I like about this Wiki. But that flame war was pathetic. Like toddlers, as you say. I hope I didn't seem like that to anyone. --Stumpers
- sniff* NO! SoS is gone, what a shame.-- Aipom --
Attention
I think that we all should remain calm and we all be friends here not foes.F g
The best way we can go about achieving that goal is to place big decisions, such as removal of information, merges, name changes, etc, into the hands of the Wiki-democracy. Y'know... a vote on the talk page with a set amount of time, like 2 days or something... before making the change. --Stumpers
Screenshot
Does anyone out there have a good screenshot of King K. Rool in his boxing outfit from Donkey Kong 64?
Mrbenio.
I believe I saw one in the Prima guide for the game. Also, have you tried YouTube for a video of the boss battle? I was able to get a screen by using ctrl + print scrn combo when the image I wanted appeared on screen. Then, paste into word and you'll have that image to edit and love. --Stumpers
Paint does a better job. If you zoom in 800%, you can edit out all background, leaving only his sprite. 3D, Paint guru.
Wiki Dudes
Since SoS left did PJ leave and why?F g
- SoS left because he thought he was not needed; PJ was insulted by A Link to the Past. 3D, that jerk.
Did anybody leave besides those two...F g
3D, I'm preparing for it... Max2 (talk) This wiki is falling apart! I'll be amazed if we get to the awards thingy! From now on, It's your problem!
OK, Max. DO NO GO BESERK. I MOST LIKELY WILL ONLY BE GONE A WEEK. 3D, AAAAAAAAAAAAAH!
EVERYONE CALM DOWN!!!!! just because one person leaves doesn't mean we all have to! come on!!! keep strong!!!
--Super paper luigi 16:08, 17 May 2007 (EDT)
Listen to SPL! Just because I leave doesn't mean I won't be back. THis will probably blow over. 3D, it'd better.
I find pretty hyprotical that those that complain about the wiki "failling appart" are those leaving. By leaving, you encourage other use to leave, creating a vicsiou circle. As Wayoshi said on the chat, you are simply a gang of fool. The stupity here is alarming.
Man, it's all gonna collapse. ARG! PLEASE DO NOT LEAVE, YOU GUYS! 3D, I call no one stupid. Even Gofer.
COME ON!
--Super paper luigi 16:33, 17 May 2007 (EDT)
What say we all take a break for half an hour and think about all the good things that might happen? 3D, that's what I do.
- I'm annoyed by all this. You're all leaving during a tough time. Which would make you cowards. Cowards, you leave when tough times fall. Your deserters of the wiki. Great Gonzo
I'm leaving because I am being FORCED to. FORCED. You guys need to stay. Fill my hole. Keep us going. We are counting on you. 3D, I mean, come ON, guys!
- The wiki is not falling apart when a member goes. All of the member's edits are still there, the content is not altered in any way. It's not like that we have to close down when we loose major contributors. (Though it's still not nice.) - Cobold
Unfortunately, many of us have very close friends (like me and Max). They wanna leave because I have to go. 3D, someone kill me.
Just hang tight everyone. Relax. This too will pass and your life will continue on regardless. Please don't leave us. 19:26, 17 May 2007 (EDT)
See, it makes it very hard to argue to mysself that I should stay when a vote of 5 to 1 in favor of keeping Mario Strikers Charged at it's current name gets overturned and moved to Mario Strikers Charged Football and then the move function is locked. What's up with that? Does A Link to the Past have Super Wiki powers now or what? And even if he does, whatever happened to the democracy we had here? It he the king with Wayoshi now?
I want some good reasons why we should stay when we waste hours of our life here only to have someone waltz into the articles and change it based on personal opinion. Yes, it's just a title, but considering that I rewrote the entire article with the exception of the Items section and provided most of the information, I don't see why my opinion and that of the majority of the Wiki is being ignored. --Stumpers
- I established to Wayoshi that because it's coming to Europe and Australia first, the title should reflect that, and he amended this idea to the manual of style for this Wiki. - A Link to the Past 22:06, 17 May 2007 (EDT)
All I can say is see the green box in MarioWiki:Manual of Style. I find the guideline very fair to follow. However, this will be up for reversal when MarioWiki:Proposals is created. Wa TC@Y 22:07, 17 May 2007 (EDT)
Right, because aTttP is such an expert on that article. This is just disgusting. So this is what spending hours upon hours making a beautiful article amounts to: being insulting by a user who doesn't like the title and then runs to his higher-up friends to get his way. When I first came, this was a community effort. This isn't a matter about what is fair to the Wiki right now with me, if you didn't notice. Yeah, I'm being selfish here. I want some good reasons about why I should stay. And if you are wondering what good I am, please see WarioWare, Inc: Mega Microgames, Yoshi: Topsy Turvey, any article on the Mario Party 5 boards up to Future Dream Mushroom Kingdom, and Mario Strikers Charged. Then, look at Mario Golf: Advance Tour, Mario Tennis or any of the other articles on my "to-do" list. Do you want help or not? --Stumpers
- What does my input into the article have to do with ANYTHING? I'm focusing on the fact that the people here are so incredibly biased that they absolutely refuse to budge in the way of European titles. - A Link to the Past 22:23, 17 May 2007 (EDT)
It has to do with everything. If you can't see that, maybe you'll finally get all those Wikipedia standards in here, along with the philosophy is that we should all just be good little nerds and write out of the goodness of our hearts. Of course, this is provided you have enough people to write for you. Believe it or not, I write to get some recognition and to practice my writing skills while still having fun. You're taking the fun out of it and denying me any standing. Ironically, all this arguing probably helps my writing skills. I'm sure there are plenty other people out there who feel the same way. --Stumpers
ALttP, I glad you came back, not so glad about what's happened since you have returned.-- Aipom --
FA Be Gone
Explain to me why we need a FA? This isn't wikipedia, we don't have a wide range of topic covered. Coupled with the fact that only a handful of people actually vote (half of which vote for everything on the list). All FAs have accomplished up to this point is drama, drama, drama. I say we do away with them. Better to focus on current problems before creating more. -- Chris 04:12, 18 May 2007 (EDT)
- The FA isn't the problem - people weren't treating it seriously, that's what's wrong with it. - A Link to the Past 06:21, 18 May 2007 (EDT)
- The entire mess is the problem. Try it this way: FAs work on wikipedia because of all the people that use the site. Oh, ten people don't like this article? That's cool, the other 1000 that voted is enough for consensus. However, that doesn't really work around here, as 10 people = half our active users. -- Chris 09:54, 18 May 2007 (EDT)
Actually, I think that people are taking it too seriously. SoS, who usually helps with this, creteaces it and lists the problems so that some of the supporters can make it FA quality. I think that the whole FA thing is even more messed up than before. Worst of all, SoS usually gives the best reviews.-- Aipom --
- People NEVER reviewed the articles. They always said "oh, look! It's Yoshi! And he's got an article with a ton of images and paragraphs! SUPPORT." - A Link to the Past 13:53, 18 May 2007 (EDT)
