Animal Tokens[1], also known as Golden Tokens[2], are large figures from Donkey Kong Country that come in the shapes of the game's four rideable Animal Friends: Rambi, Expresso, Enguarde and Winky.

Animal Tokens are semi-rare, and are sometimes rewarded as prizes for the completion of Bonus Areas. If the player collects three tokens of the same Animal Friend, they are warped to a secret area, where the player has control over the represented Animal Friend. In the secret area, they have ninety-nine seconds to collect as many Mini Animal Tokens as possible. Once the time limit expires, the Mini Animal Tokens are exchanged for extra Lives; every one-hundred Mini Animal Tokens that are exchanged yields an extra life (excess tokens are lost).

In every secret area, there is a hidden Big Animal Token, which doubles the player's total number of Mini Animal Tokens up being touched. It is wise for the player to leave the Big Animal Token for the end, as they should have an optimal amount of Mini Animal Tokens to double.
