Opening Statement

Hello, 'Shroom readers! I'm the new Director, Superchao. I'd like to thank you all again for electing me to be the Director for the 2014 term (even if I had a lack of opposition, hahaha).

  • I'd like to thank Smasher (talk) for his work as the Activities Director and Fun Stuff Director last year. He was a good asset to the 'Shroom during his time on the staff.

Section of the Month

Sub-director Turboo here with the January SOTM results! We received 30 votes total; no three-way ties this month, folks. Coming in third is the section I ghostwrote, Mario Party: Island Tournament, which announced the results of the five-month battle between MP minigames. Second place was taken by Timmy's Brawl Tactics, a great, detailed piece about Ness's playstyle and moves.

The 'Shroom Spotlight

Shroom Spotlight Lakitu.png

Welcome Kongs and Kremlings to this month’s bananatastic edition of The 'Shroom Spotlight! To those of you who’ve been living in a cave (or on Crocodile Isle) for the past nine months, The 'Shroom Spotlight is a dedicated community project that aims to improve a selection poor articles and images on the wiki each month by drawing attention to them in this section. It's barrels of fun*, really**! If you crave pointless reading, refer to this handy-dandy page for extra information about the Spotlight and its goals.

*Please note that The 'Shroom has prohibited the recreational use of Barrels due to glaring health and safety issues. Please understand.

**Fun not guaranteed. Results may vary.

Fake News

Editorial

Welcome to the first Fake News of 2014 because January isn't really a month.

So, anyway, you may have noticed this new layout we have here. Pretty flashy, isn't it? At least, I hope we have a new layout, I'm not getting this wrong twice. :(

Speaking of :(, Pyro (talk) resigned from being the Travel Guide guy. We wish him luck for whatever he plans in the future. Well, I do, at least. I hope you do. Why wouldn't you? That's just unkind.

Anyway, with 18 votes, Yoshi876 (talk) and his Obituaries took the metaphorical cake. It also got Section of the Month, but it's the cake that matters. Our departing Co-Director Tucayo (talk) also gained his slice, with 11 votes going to the last Ask Tucayo, and Toadbert101 (talk) and his Fake Ads did something else related to this extended metaphor, with 8 votes.

Fun Stuff

Director's Notes

Hey guys, NSM! I'm temporarily subbing in for the Fun Stuff director, and need a replacement ASAP! So be sure to notify me if you're interested!

There were 37 votes for Fun Stuff's January SOTM, with first going to Tucky with Mystery Images (18 votes, 48.65%), second going to Pyro with Find the Differences (9 votes, 24.32%), and third going to a tie between Paper Yoshi with Crossword and Palkia47 with Word Search (4 votes, 10.81%). Congratulations to everyone!

Palette Swap

Director's Notes (FunkyK38 (talk))

Welcome, all, to Palette Swap! I’m glad to be back as your Director again, although there’s not a whole lot for me to direct. So I implore you, my dear readers! Consider signing up for a small section! You don’t have to write a novel every month, and you don’t have to write every month! Or, consider sending in some art!

Anyways, we have a fantastic submission from Paper Yoshi this month! So be sure to check that out!

Pipe Plaza

Director's Notes (Paper Yoshi (talk))

Hi, everyone, and welcome to the February Issue of Pipe Plaza! Apparently, I'm gonna be the Pipe Plaza Director for another term, so I guess you're stuck with me! Mwahahaha!!!

Anyway, I have no special news regarding the Pipe Plaza, so let's go directly to...

Section of the Month

Last month's SotM poll got a total of 11 votes. That's certainly better than the previous poll, but we can still have an even higher number of votes, so be sure to choose your favorite section in this issue!

The January Section of the Month, with 5 votes (45.46% of the total), is...

Critic Corner

Director's Notes

Howdy everybodyyyy!

I can gladly say that we at least have an issue this month, thank goodness! Hope you enjoy this month’s CC! (:

I would like to note that there is no section of the month since we didn’t have Critic Corner last month. Sorry about that!

Interview

Superchao

Hello, 'Shroom readers! Your new director, Superchao, here; thanks for electing me! Don't worry, I plan to continue my interviews throughout the year. And not only that, I've decided to start interviewing people who might not have a special rank but are still worth interviewing. In this case, one Epic Nitwit, a forum regular. Nitwit is the first interviewee of mine who is not only inactive on the wiki, but doesn't even have an account there! Despite this, he's still become rather well-known on the forum, and is a pretty chill guy - leading me to pick him as this month's interviewee!

Superchao: Hello, 'Shroom readers! For this month, I've decided to branch out and interview someone who may not have a special rank, but is still a forum regular, one Epic Nitwit!

Brawl Tactics

FunkyK38

Welcome, Brawlers, to this month's edition of BRAWL TACTICS! This month, I will be analyzing the Kid Icarus stage of Skyworld!

Skyworld is a small-sized stage, with four main platforms and one additional platform that hovers across the bottom of the stage every so often. The sides are relatively shallow, while the bottom is quite deep, appropriately enough.

First off, the main platforms are annoying. They are not drop-through, and your attacks will not go through them if you don't break them first. When you do break them, they will turn into clouds that are drop through, so be careful for that. The way the three upper platforms are placed, you'll have a hard time getting any air on attacks that shoot upwards. If you do break them, it is so incredibly easy to drop through them to a fall.

A History of Video Games

Chuck Ballymoo

Are ya ready for some Video Game History?! Pay attention, because you will be quizzed at the end, and your answers had better not be as pitiful as the Kremlings' sums on the chalkboard at Wrinkly's class way back when! Just kidding, you don't get graded, as my class is not for credits, you voluntarily show up month after month to be entertained, to learn about a topic you love, and have fun. This month's lesson is about the greatest concert that you never knew happened (most likely).

The Greatest Concert You Never Knew About

The greatest concert that you never knew about took place in Japan over a decade ago. If you or anyone you know has ever been to Japan, this would have been a hell of a time to visit. On September 14th, 2003, Nintendo featured Mario & Zelda Band Live. The performances included country, Latin, and big-bang arrangements of tunes from Miyamoto's iconic games.

Closing Statement

Sub-Director's Notes

I like the new Fake News layout a lot. That's about all I have to say this month because I couldn't think of anything funny, so have a good day, and I hope you enjoyed the issue.

- Turboo (talk)

Closing Statement

Hello, 'Shroom readers! Superchao here, at the end of my first issue as the new Director. I already said this in the opening statement, but thanks again for electing me as your 2014 director. I promise to keep the 'Shroom on its track record of high-quality - and to that end, I encourage anyone with a section idea to apply! You don't necessarily need to be applying for an existing section; we're always interested in new ones.
