Rainbow Mario
- Not to be confused with Invincible Mario.
Rainbow Mario is a form of Mario that made it's debut in Super Mario Galaxy, which is obtained by getting a Rainbow Star
History
Super Mario Galaxy
The first time Rainbow Mario appears is during the King Kaliente's Battle Fleet mission in Good Egg Galaxy. In this form, Mario is is invincible, much like Invincible Mario, but is more extensive and longer-lasting Invincible Mario, and he can break through certain objects. However, he earns Star Bits by defeating enemies instead of extra lives, and he cannot combine this power-up with any other power-up; if Mario touches one while invincible, the other item will be kicked off-screen. As Rainbow Mario runs, he changes colors, and leaves a rainbow-colored afterimage trail behind him. The music as well as Mario himself increases in speed while in use, making Mario harder to control until it runs out. Rainbow Mario's theme is a re-orchestration of the classic invincibility theme, with the same melody heard from Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island and Super Mario 64.
The artwork for Rainbow Mario is similar to Invincible Mario's artwork; Mario's poses in both artworks are identical, though he faces a different direction in each artwork.
Super Mario Galaxy 2
The form returns in Super Mario Galaxy 2, but with one minor difference: rather than change colors, Mario and Luigi just turn red, although the rainbow trail from the previous game is still retained.
Super Mario 3D All-Stars
Rainbow Mario reappears in the Super Mario Galaxy 2 mode of Super Mario 3D All-Stars, having the same characteristics as in the original game.
