Underwater boost rings[edit]

It just occurred to me that some Super Mario games have underwater boosting rings, notably Super Mario Galaxy and Super Mario Galaxy 2 in the underwater racing segments. Should those be covered here? Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 01:19, 20 April 2018 (EDT)

I'd probably say no, as firstly, they're underwater, whereas the Mario Kart ones are all in the air. Secondly, when the Galaxy rings are passed though, the character does a turn, whereas the characters sometimes react vocally to the Mario Kart rings, and do not perform any extra flips than those from the trick off of the launch ramp. They also don't seem to be that similar in appearance, they more closely resemble Dash Panels. Finally, because Super Mario Galaxy and Super Mario Galaxy 2 came first, this would then imply that the Mario Kart rings developed from the underwater ones in those games, when I personally can't see much of a link between the two. If anything, I'd say that they're best suited to having their own separate article or some kind of section on the Dash Panel page, as opposed to being included here. The idea of moving through rings in video games has been around for a lot longer than either, though. It's practically a generic subject of a video game mechanic. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 17:27, 20 April 2018 (EDT)

Rainbow tunnel in Wii Rainbow Road[edit]

As the article already notes, in the Mario Kart Tour incarnation of Wii Rainbow Road, you get "Star Ring" points when you pass through the ends of the rainbow tunnel. Should these be given coverage in this article's Mario Kart Wii section, even if they weren't recognised as Star Rings in that game? -- KOOPA CON CARNE 17:48, January 13, 2023 (EST)

I'd say that they should be given coverage only if they were implemented in the same way in Mario Kart Wii as they were in Mario Kart Tour. What we see in Mario Kart Tour might either be a "development shortcut" to give a similar effect to the tunnel we had in Mario Kart Wii, or an actual faithful recreation of how the tunnel worked in the original Mario Kart Wii. In the second case, we can also cover its Star rings in the Mario Kart Wii section, in the first case we'd be inaccurate if we did.--Mister Wu (talk) 22:44, January 14, 2023 (EST)
