Merge with Bill Blaster

This is just the normal Bill Blaster. It has a different name, but enemies like Goby and The Big Boo are treated as Cheep Cheeps and Boos respectively, because they are the same thing and so is this MLSSBMTashrooba.pngVOIDTHIS (talk)MLSSBMShroobRex.png 00:26, 8 July 2018 (CEST)

No, these seem to have a different Japanese name. And are sapient. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 18:30, 7 July 2018 (EDT)
There was a split proposal here. Basically, in-game battles treat the Blaster as a moving enemy; additionally, if you look closely at its attacks, it shoots out multiple types of Bullet Bills, which no other Bill Blaster has done to date. And as mentioned, different Japanese names unlike the aforementioned examples. LinkTheLefty (talk) 18:35, 7 July 2018 (EDT)
A section of the Perfect Edition of the Great Mario Character Encyclopedia detailing various obstacles, such as the Fire-Bar, the Pipe Fist, the falling spike, and the Big Bubble.
Just to be clear, if anyone can see if this scan gives Bill Blaster a particular Japanese name, please say so. I suppose someone could ask Mister Wu about ESMB's take on the object... Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 18:37, 7 July 2018 (EDT)
Bill Blaster and the Star are both sort of clip art on that page and aren't mentioned at all, but Encyclopedia Super Mario Bros. consistently labels it 「キラー砲台」 (Killer Hōdai) throughout various object tables. LinkTheLefty (talk) 08:00, 8 July 2018 (EDT)
Seeing as this was answered, I'll remove the talk template. rollerC (talk) 01:27, 3 August 2018 (EDT)
I may be late but, yeah they have the same appearance, but act differently and have a different Japanese name. (same goes for Flamer Guys and Pyro Guys, and PM Spear Guys and Yoshi's Island ones) --Green Yoshi FanOfYoshi 06:42, 18 October 2018 (EDT)
Ps:So i'm opposing the merge. --Green Yoshi FanOfYoshi 12:59, 18 October 2018 (EDT)

In 2015, a proposal was passed that split the "Blaster" enemy in Super Mario RPG from the regular Bill Blaster article. I will list the reasons given in that proposal and in the section above and explain why I don't agree with them.

"The game treats it as a mobile enemy rather than an immobile one in battle, and no other type of Bill Blaster so far has ever been able to move itself."

  • This is only the case in the original game. In the remake, they simply pivot in place to face the target. Them moving in front of the target in the original game was probably because, if they stayed still, the bullets they shoot would appear to travel laterally, which would look strange.

"The graininess in the sprites also creates the impression of treads on the bottom."

  • The graininess is simply the result of it being a sprite in an SNES game. Both its official artwork and remake model show it with a flat base.

"No, these seem to have a different Japanese name."

  • Bill Blasters didn't really have a standardized name at the time. In Paper Mario and Superstar Saga, they were known as "Killer Taihō" and "Hōdai", respectively, rather than the current "Killer Hōdai". And sure, these names are closer to the current name, but that's because, like it, they're just straightforward descriptions, whereas Super Mario RPG went with a more creative name.

"And are sapient."

  • Because you can read their thoughts? You can also read the thoughts of Smelter, which, according to the Monster List, "is in no way alive". In fact, the Blaster's own description says "These may look like ordinary cannons, but the bullets they shoot have eyes, hands, and mouths that grin almost as if they were alive." If even the Bullet Bills are implied not to be alive, then that might also go for the Blasters.

"it shoots out multiple types of Bullet Bills, which no other Bill Blaster has done to date"

  • And Lakitus shoot lightning, Goombas shoot spikes, Shy Guys attack with slingshots and bells, and Snifits shoot ice and fire. This is far from the only enemy to get additional attacks compared to other games, and it's just a golden-colored Bullet Bill anyway.

They look like Bill Blasters, they act like Bill Blasters, even their Monster List description is pretty much describing Bill Blasters, and they appeared before Bill Blasters properly received their current name. Let's merge them, shall we?
