Merge 13-0
Well, I'm not sure if I can make this a "merge," but it's more of a "turn this into redirects" idea. I stumbled upon these two pages by complete accident. To my horror, Don-chan's two costumes were two separate articles. To give context, Mario Kart Arcade GP DX has a feature in the game where you can swap out a character's model with a different appearance. Don is one of those characters. I must clarify that I have limited knowledge of the Taiko no Tatsujin games. Because of this, I could be entirely wrong here. From what I can gather, these are not two different characters but Don himself. The series is known for giving him different outfits. Don's two new costumes appear to be made for this game, specifically, though, as I said, I could be wrong. The one thing they have going for them is exclusive items for each variant, similar to the other characters.

So here is where my problem lies. As I mentioned, the only things that are different from the regular Don are the outfit and the fact that they have one exclusive item. I could go over many reasons, but the most relevant reason is the context of the Super Mario Wiki. In the context of this game, the game treats these other variants for the character. It's not like Fire Mario or Ice Luigi, who have made multiple appearances in the series; this is just the same character but with different clothes. I could understand it more if this was a Baby Mario case where he is sometimes a separate entity from Mario. For a better example, Alph was once a separate page from Olimar because he was "a different character." However, in the context of the games we covered, he was just an alternate skin swap. Of course, Olimar would become a redirect for a page. Still, even if that didn't happen, merging him with Olimar was much better than keeping Alph's article. An even stronger case is Slime, who has two costumes in Mario Sports Mix that are distinct entities in its game. Still, in the context of the Super Mario franchise, these are just skin swaps. And while we are eventually putting various variants of characters from Mario Kart Tour into lists (which also have exclusive items depending on the variant), that's because they are lots of character variants in that game. You couldn't do the same for Don here.

This proposal aims to merge Strawberry Don-chan and Hero Don-chan into Don-chan's page. We can mention the differences in his abilities and include the outfits in the gallery of his page.

  2. SolemnStormcloud (talk) Per proposal.
  3. Hewer (talk) Per proposal and how we generally cover Mario Kart Tour alts, honestly I'm surprised we haven't done this merge already.
  4. Arend (talk) Peculiar how these have their own articles when they're nothing more than alt costumes; I suppose it's purely because other alts in Mario Kart Arcade GP DX have their own article as well, such as Dry Bowser and Gold Mario. Still, those have more significant appearances outside of being a costume (Dry Bowser even tends to be a separate character from Bowser in Mario Kart), while these are more akin to the Mario Kart Tour alts. Per all.
  5. Camwoodstock (talk) Talk about something slipping through the cracks. Maybe in an era where the only precedent of something like this was Pink Gold Peach (who is still considered her own entity by Nintendo), this makes sense...? But in a world of Tour alts all over the place, yeah, no, these articles don't exactly meet the exceptions we've laid out for characters like Pink Gold Peach.
  6. Tails777 (talk) I could literally just say Tour alternates and call it a day. Per all.
  7. ThePowerPlayer (talk) Per proposal.
  8. MegaBowser64 (talk) Two words: Tour. Alts. We should just end the proposal early...
  9. Blhte (talk) Per all (I saw no talk before that split)
  10. Nintendo101 (talk) Per proposal.
  11. TheFlameChomp (talk) Per all.
  12. Killer Moth (talk) Per all.
  13. Somethingone (talk) I had some big argument in favor of this on that proposal to merge the karts & gliders back in March, but I don't feel like pulling that up now. Per all.

Got myself a nice sandbox now. Wikiboy10 (talk) 13:55, May 31, 2023 (EDT)

Nice. BOWSER... (talk) 14:42, May 31, 2023 (EDT)

Since this proposal is obviously passing but won't end for a long time, I will count down with a "template".

This proposal will conclude in eight (8) days. BOWSER... (talk) 18:15, June 4, 2023 (EDT)

To prevent a multitude of pointless minor edits in the oncoming week, I whipped up a parser function that I hope will automatically count down for us - essentially a function an actual template could have.
The proposal has ended.
(Personally speaking, I'm not sure if something like this is entirely necessary when readers can do the math themselves with the current time at the top of the proposal, and the deadline at the bottom before voting) ArendLogoTransparent.pngrend (talk) (edits) 20:43, June 4, 2023 (EDT)
Good work. Now we'll always know how long till the proposal ends. :) BOWSER... (talk) 09:41, June 5, 2023 (EDT)
We have a problem, it now says "1 days." This was, however, a mostly successful venture and now we know how to perfect it. Wait, won't it say "0 days" starting tomorrow and for the rest of eternity? ...BOWSER... (talk) 12:06, June 12, 2023 (EDT)
