Split the Mario's Time Machine historical figures into a separate category[edit]

Settledproposal.svg This talk page proposal has already been settled. Please do not edit any of the sections in the proposal. If you wish to discuss the article, do so in a new header below the proposal.

split 4-2
Although we agreed that the Mario's Time Machine historical figures are both characters and people, there's something off about Hiroshi Yamauchi being stuck between Henry Ford and Ho Ti. I think that it'd be more valuable for the people (developers, actors, etc.) who had a direct hand themselves in the Mario franchise to receive more attention than the fictionalized appearances of a smorgasbord of figures in a single obscure game. I can guarantee that the vast majority of readers who look at this category are more interested in the former category than the latter; one shows the genuine history, for lack of a better term, of the franchise, and the other is a trivia point. In short, I propose that a new category be created to house the historical figures that exclusively appear in Mario's Time Machine. All of them may be people as per the wiki's technical term, but it's a bit disingenuous to treat them as equally relevant.

Support[edit]

  1. Time Turner (talk) Per proposal
  2. WeirdDave13 (talk) Per proposal
  3. bwburke94 (talk) Per proposal, and per the reason this category was split from the deceased-character category in the first place.
  4. Ghost Jam (talk) Per proposal. Long term, I'd be in favor of trimming the historical character articles out completely and just linking off to Wikipedia as needed.

Oppose[edit]

  1. Alex95 (talk) - The definition of this category is "Real life people who have had some relation to the Mario franchise that are known to be dead." I say these qualify. If we agreed that the historical figures are both characters and people, then I think it's fine we categorize them as such as well.
  2. Toadette the Achiever (talk) Per Alex95.

Comments[edit]

You mean like something listing the characters from the game? Because we already have a category for that. Toadette icon CTTT.pngFont of Archivist Toadette's signature(T|C) 23:57, 9 November 2018 (EST)

I said to split the historical figures from this category, making it distinct from this one. The Mario's Time Machine category also lists characters outside of the historical figures, but that's besides the point. Hello, I'm Time Turner. 10:46, 10 November 2018 (EST)
Yeah, but it's not like that category Toadette the Achiever listed is cumbersome to navigate. Icon showing how many lives Mario has left. From Super Mario 64 DS. It's me, Mario! (Talk / Stalk) 17:06, 11 November 2018 (EST)
It's for the purposes of this category, which I'd say is cumbersome to navigate with it being bogged down by fictionalized representations of historical, long-dead figures. Hello, I'm Time Turner. 19:16, 13 November 2018 (EST)
Since there are only three completely fictional characters (at least) that appear in Mario's Time Machine, I'd say it's not cumbersome. At least it's not to me. Toadette icon CTTT.pngFont of Archivist Toadette's signature(T|C) 20:01, 17 November 2018 (EST)
This category is cumbersome. The Mario's Time Machine category has nothing to do with this proposal. Hello, I'm Time Turner. 21:18, 17 November 2018 (EST)

@Ghost Jam: Um, why? Out of place as they may seem, these historical figures appear as relevant characters in a Mario game. They should stay without question. -- -- KOOPA CON CARNE 22:58, 17 November 2018 (EST)

They are more relevant than pie, at any rate. These aren't disgusting, unlike pie, though they are inedible, just like pie. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 23:43, 17 November 2018 (EST)
Yeah, I agree they are still relevant to the Mario franchise (even though the game sucks in the historical department). Alex95sig1.pngAlex95sig2.png 00:21, 18 November 2018 (EST)

Firstly, stay on topic, this isn't a social page. To answer the question, I'd argue that these historical figures are more references than outright characters or otherwise not something that really needs individual articles. But, as always, I'm willing to bend with editorial consensus. -- Ghost JamShyghost.PNG 16:43, 19 November 2018 (EST)
