Talk:Angry Sun
MKDS[edit]
There are a few fireballs bouncing on the course, but certainly not from the sky or an Angry Sun. Wayoshi ( T·C·@ ) 12:08, 19 August 2006 (EDT)
But, I've seen the Angry Sun in MKDS in the Desert Hill track. -- Sir Grodus
- For reals! Well, in that case, I'll put the info back in. -- Son of Suns
- And he does shoot the fire. Evan had a very close eye. I don't pay attention to backgrounds that much, but when I went back to it today, guess what? I saw the Angry Sun as soon as I entered the course, then when I started the second lap I saw the Angry Sun for a second, then it ran away and in the next part of the course I saw the bottom half of a sun and fireballs shooting from directly under it. Para Yoshi Wahoo! 20:28, 7 December 2006 (EST)
I've seen the whole sun shoot out fireballs.

Trivia (Don't know, Don't ask)[edit]
- the sun never shoots out more than 4 fireballs at a time, in any game which it does. Max2
Reply to Sir Grodus' question[edit]
You asked whether or not this is a species or a character, when I'd probably say species. In the level where an Angry Sun appears, if you kill it, another one will come, obviously meening that there's more than just one. --Bentendo 16:21, 28 March 2007 (EDT)
Are you sure? Because I killed one in the Desert level of SMB3, waited around forever, and it didn't come back. Phoenix Rider
- Oh, I guess I'm wrong, sorry! --Bentendo 16:40, 28 March 2007 (EDT)'
Wario Land 3[edit]
Correct (but no yelling) me if im wrong. But isn't there a Angry Sun in Wario Land 3? It and the moon throw bolts and fireballs at Wario to knock him off high platforms - CC
You're correct. I remember getting angry at that sadistic celestial duo. -Shinx Man
Sprites[edit]
We need a SMB3 NES sprite. Feel the power!
Mario kart double dash.[edit]
I could of swear I saw him in Mario Kart double dash on "Dry dry desert" or whatever the desert thing is called. --Goombob XD (talk) 19:15, 14 May 2013 (EDT)Goombob
- I never saw it in Dry Dry Desert. It's me, Mario! (Talk / Stalk) 20:31, 14 May 2013 (EDT)
Use NSMBU Angry Sun?[edit]
Since we now have a modern appearance for the Angry Sun, I was wondering if we should make that the new picture for the article. Since the NSMBU style is the "modern look" for 2D Mario games, I believe it's safe to assume that this is the look the Angry Sun will have for now on. Garridk (talk) 11:59, June 19, 2019 (EDT)
- This needs to be discussed first. L151
- We should wait until Super Mario Maker 2 is released. --DeepFriedCabbage 12:18, June 19, 2019 (EDT)
I think the picture that is already up top is way more accurate to what it actually is. The NSMBU design isn't. Mario Sakuraba (talk) 08:23, June 23, 2019 (EDT)
- "Accurate" or not, this is its modern appearance, and thus should be updated. (T|C) 17:20, June 23, 2019 (EDT)
I regret agreeing with this, it looks terrible and does not accurately portray "angry" at all. Super Mario Maker 2's SMB3 sprite is still "modern" technically, if we want to use that. 12:13, August 6, 2019 (EDT)
- Yeah, I'd prefer using the SMB3 sprite, rather than the horror of the Indifferent Sun. TheDarkStar 12:21, August 6, 2019 (EDT)
- Using the old sprite is a bad idea. Just because Koopa Troopas uses their old design in the Super Mario Bros. style doesn't mean we should consider that their current design. The actually Angry Sun in SMB, SMMB3, and SMW is just meant to be a reference to its old design and how it looked in Super Mario Bros. 3, just like how any other sprite in those styles look like they did, or would have looked like in the cases where they have a new sprite, in older games. (For the most part, there are some exceptions like with Bowser in the Super Mario World style.) Even if the bored sun isn't angry it is its new design, and we shouldn't ignore that just so we can use what are in our opinions a better design. Plus, the New Super Mario Bros. U design is based off a more recent game, which could be considered as more modern that its sprites representing older titles inside the same game. Doomhiker (talk) 12:28, August 6, 2019 (EDT)
- OK, first off, why are people still insisting "Angry" should be a necessary attribute? Need I remind y'all that the "Angry" part of the name was Nintendo Power's invention, and as such the Japanese developers are under no obligation to follow that, as it is just "sun" (or technically "taiyo") in Japan. Sorry if I'm being a bit of a jerk about this, I've had to explain this on The Spriters Resource like 10 times now and am at my limit with it. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 13:34, August 6, 2019 (EDT)
- Well... it's being used in game now. Does it matter if it's a Nintendo Power name when the sprite looks terrible anyway? 14:09, August 6, 2019 (EDT)
- First off: It's being used in the English-language setting, i's still just "taiyo" in the Japanese-language setting. Secondly, that's terribly subjective. I think using a mesoamerican influence (almost as if to converge it with the Paper Mario sun) is an interesting idea. Anyways, for shame, attempting to push opinion as fact.
Besides, it's better stylized than most of Superstar Saga's garbage designs, and people outright praise those.Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 14:51, August 6, 2019 (EDT)

I support this. NSMBU represents modern designs, and this is the sun's modern design. It's really strange, but we do have a high quality sprite of it. Scrooge200 (talk) 14:13, August 6, 2019 (EDT)
I guess I am gonna have to be the one to say nay, mainly for the simple reason that it is a design original to Super Mario Maker 2 and there is no other game as of now that corroborates with this unique design, since each of the five styles are presented as valid interpretations and for all we know it is still subject to change even in a 3D style (see Boom Boom's design difference between New Super Mario Bros. U and Super Mario 3D World game styles). If it for some reason was not available in the New Super Mario Bros. U style, would we still want to use the sprite for the Super Mario World style, despite being nonexistent in that game and being just about as new as its Super Mario Bros. style sprite? Also, new content in the Super Mario Maker games was created to be hypothetical to that style, and the same should go for this enemy. The former Mario Kart series image is a 3D game design that is much more representative of literally all other appearances. LinkTheLefty (talk) 08:46, August 7, 2019 (EDT)
- And designs have changed since then, such as Pokey's. Redesigns are redesigns. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 16:43, August 7, 2019 (EDT)
- Yes, but does it really count if it is (as of now) merely a design hypothetical to one nonexistent game appearance? LinkTheLefty (talk) 17:00, August 7, 2019 (EDT)
- I'm not sure if hypothetical is the right term to be using here. Yes, it's hypothetical for what that enemy could've looked like in that particular game, but it is still a legitimate design used in a legitimate game, not a scrapped design in concept art. -- Too Bad! Waluigi Time! 17:04, August 7, 2019 (EDT)
- I'm pretty sure the "use normal design" rule is actually saying don't use designs that are from games with a generally unusual art style, like Woolly World or a M&L/PM game. This is a Super Mario game. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 17:08, August 7, 2019 (EDT)
- Right, but because of the game's nature, this new design coexists with three other styles, so it's not supplanting the original in this game. LinkTheLefty (talk) 17:15, August 7, 2019 (EDT)
- And those other styles are for games that predate the MK appearance, like with the Rocky Wrenches in all SMM games that have shells in styles predating the
lazyredesign in NSMBW. Note that two of them were introduced in that game, and neither was the "unshelled" one. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 22:05, August 7, 2019 (EDT)

Why is it not notable that it has been a significantly long time since the Angry Sun appeared as an enemy?[edit]
It keeps getting removed, and while it has been repeatedly called not notable, I have absolutely no clue as to how it isn’t. According to this page, its only appearances as an enemy in a mainline game are Super Mario Bros. 3 and Super Mario Maker 2. Is it because it being in Mario Kart DS and Mario Kart Wii count as enemy appearances? If that’s the case, should it still probably still be noted, as there was still a 15 year long gap between Super Mario Bros. 3 and Mario Kart DS? Its only other appearances were sprite cameos in Mario Kart 7, 8, and Tour, and a cartoon from the 90’s. 184.181.98.125 01:48, October 28, 2019 (EDT)
- Because we're moving away from that sort of writing. Things appear, they appear again. We only really note that when it's had among the largest of appearance gaps, which it doesn't. You also missed All-Stars and Advance 4 in that. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 01:52, October 28, 2019 (EDT)
- Also, calling a long absence is inaccurate since it's appeared repeatedly in the spinoff games. -- Lord G. matters. 01:58, October 28, 2019 (EDT)
Super Mario Bros. 3 remakes[edit]
I noticed in the two remakes of Super Mario Bros. 3, the Angry Sun has an error in the second frame of animation where the tiles in the bottom corners are arranged incorrectly. I feel like that information should be included somewhere on this Wiki.
