This is a recurring mechanic in the Mario Party series that functions differently between Super Mario Party and its sequel, Super Mario Party Jamboree. Given that it's not relegated to simply spaces or minigames, it should get its own article.

Support (Ally and Jamboree Buddy are treated as the same mechanic)
- Pizza Master (talk) Per my proposal.
Support (Ally and Jamboree Buddy both get an individual article)
- Pizza Master (talk) Secondary choice.
- DesaMatt (talk) They're different enough from each other to warrant separate pages, as far as we have seen.
- Arend (talk) Maybe it's a bit early given that Jamboree isn't out yet, but from what I can gather from the prerelease footage and previews, Jamboree Buddies work a bit different from Allies, nerfed on some aspects and altered on others (e.g. Only certain Jamboree Buddies affect dice rolls; none have a unique Dice Block and instead have different abilities or benefits; Jamboree Buddies are earned differently with a special minigame; Jamboree Buddies allow to double several things like buying stars or earning/losing coins; Jamboree Buddies can be stolen by anyone that passes by; Jamboree Buddies only last about 3 turns; etc.) In either case, the fact that Allies are in both Super and Star Rush makes it having its own article more warranted, as it's not a single game-exclusive mechanic like Mario Party 7's Bowser times or Mario Party 6's day/night cycle (which outside of 6 only appears on Horror Land).
Support (Jamboree Buddy gets an article, but not Ally)
- Pizza Master (talk) Tertiary choice.
Support (Instead, Create article under name "Ally (mechanic)" or "Ally (Mario Party (series))" and Jamboree Buddy is treated as the same mechanic)
- Pizza Master (talk) Quaternary choice.
Support (Create new article for the "Super version" of Ally, but don't make a decision regarding Jamboree Buddy until after Jamboree's release)
- Pizza Master (talk) Quinary choice.
Support (Convert this page into an article for the "Super version" of Ally, but don't make a decision regarding Jamboree Buddy until after Jamboree's release)
- Pizza Master (talk) Senary choice.

Why start this proposal now instead of waiting for Jamboree to come out? Hewer (talk · contributions · edit count) 17:23, September 26, 2024 (EDT)
The ally gimmick is already an existing mechanic, so it should get an article, I would think. For the "Jamboree Buddy" section (or individual article), that can wait to be made until the release of Jamboree, but the Super Mario Party version of the ally mechanic should already have had its own page by this point. What I mean to say is the Super version of the ally mechanic should get its own article now (soon after the proposal, assuming the option to give it one wins) and any decision made in this proposal to merge the "Jamboree Buddy" with it (or give the "Jamboree Buddy" its own article) should have the "Jamboree Buddy" section (or article) merged to the article (or made in the case of "Jamboree Buddy getting an individual article) after Jamboree releases. Also, doing the proposal now means anyone wanting to make these changes to the wiki won't have to wait more than a week since the outcome of the proposal is only a week before the game's release. Sorry for such a long response, LOL.-- Pizza Master 18:42, September 26, 2024 (EDT)
- I don't think making a page for the ally mechanic from Super Mario Party is the kind of thing that would need a proposal. The potential point of contention is how to handle "Jamboree Buddy" in relation to that, and I think it would make more sense to have that discussion after the game has come out so our opinions are more informed. Hewer (talk · contributions · edit count) 03:22, September 27, 2024 (EDT)
- Yeah, I'm with Hewer. We should wait until Jamboree comes out and see how to handle the Ally/Jamboree Buddy thing. PrincessPeachFan (talk) 09:01, September 27, 2024 (EDT)
Apparently Mario Party: Star Rush has an ally mechanic as well (I didn't play that game but according to the Super Mario Party page it's the same mechanic), so I guess that should also go on this page. Hewer (talk · contributions · edit count) 09:37, September 27, 2024 (EDT)
Agreement?
@DesaMatt, @Arend, @Hewer, @PrincessPeachFan Ok, maybe this proposal violates rule 15 (not strong enough disagreement) and we don't have enough info on "Jamboree Buddies" yet, but we are in agreement that the Ally mechanic should get its own article, right? If so, should the article be created in the same vein as the Baby Fat page or should we create a new page entitled Ally (mechanic) or Ally (Mario Party (series))?-- Pizza Master 23:00, September 27, 2024 (EDT)
- Yes, the ally mechanic should get its own page. PrincessPeachFan (talk) 06:44, September 28, 2024 (EDT)
- Sure, we could do that. Given that it currently redirects to List of allies (not really an official title by any means), we could transform that into an article and include an {{about}} template on top. rend (talk) (edits) 08:54, September 28, 2024 (EDT)
- Sure, given it's been in (at least) two different Mario Party games. Hewer (talk · contributions · edit count) 12:42, September 28, 2024 (EDT)

Jamboree Buddy functions very differently from the ally mechanic and is named differently, so giving it its own article would make sense. Although, from how people have voted on my Impostor Bowser proposal, it seems that functioning differently and having a different name do not always make a thing different in the eyes of this wiki. Given that the Jamboree Buddy is at least inspired by the ally mechanic, I can understand the argument that it should be merged with the Ally page. In my opinion, it's different enough to warrant its own article but a merge with the ally page would be acceptable, too. The info on them should at the least be moved away from the Jamboree page given that this wiki gives mechanics their own articles from time to time and it'd be more appropriate in this circumstance to move this info elsewhere.

Create article for Jamboree Buddy
- Pizza Master (talk) Per.
- Pseudo (talk) While very likely inspired by allies, Jamboree Buddies are definitely a unique mechanic to the new game, so this is only sensible.
- PrincessPeachFan (talk) The ally system and Jamboree Buddies are pretty wildly different so yeah.
Merge with Ally
- Pizza Master (talk) Secondary.
Keep info on Jamboree page (Status quo)

Just to get this out of the way, no, this proposal doesn't violate rule 7 as this has to do with what to do with the Jamboree Buddy whereas my previous proposal on this talk page dealt with what to do about the ally mechanic. Also, a decision was not made during that proposal, so this proposal would not be overturning a decision of a previous proposal.-- Pizza Master 14:53, October 29, 2024 (EDT)
I don't appreciate the snark — Lady Sophie (T|C) 14:57, October 29, 2024 (EDT)
Excuse me, but I wasn't meaning to be snarky. I was simply clarifying so that it would not have to be discussed later.-- Pizza Master 15:02, October 29, 2024 (EDT)

I need somebody who's better at research than me to find the foreign names for the ally mechanic from Mario Party: Star Rush and Super Mario Party to make a comparison between names possible.-- Pizza Master 15:19, October 29, 2024 (EDT)
- I mean, all of these names have "Jamboree" in them, named after the game. I strongly doubt that any languages called the allies "Jamboree" in previous games. Hewer (talk · contributions · edit count) 09:06, October 30, 2024 (EDT)
Also, it should be noted that the Star Rush and Super ally system has special Dice Blocks you can use, the Jamboree Buddy system does not.
The preceding unsigned comment was added by PrincessPeachFan (talk).
With the ally names, they're probably quite different but it'd be nice to know the names in other languages for the ally mechanic so that they could be added to the article.-- Pizza Master 20:36, October 30, 2024 (EDT)
