Bot
Can I please have permission to make a bot for the chat? It would be there to assist operators with functions like quick kick, powerful bans and the like. It would not speak and would not be anoying. If you do it'll be up quite quickly. Thanks a lot, Jdrowlands (talk) 04:08, 16 August 2008 (EDT)
- Is that really necessary? Plus we run the risk of the bot enslaving humanity. (no) --Steve (talk) 14:21, 16 August 2008 (EDT)

Polls
Just wondering, what happens to the polls that don't get chosen? I mean, I know they won't be used that week, but are they sorta 'on hold' for later weeks? Also, if the answer to that question would be 'no', are we allowed to submit the same poll the next week? -Moonshine
- They'll just remain on the page until they're used. If a poll is removed without being used it should not be submitted again. If the number of submitted polls pile up I'll make it daily until we start running low. --Steve (talk) 03:57, 29 August 2008 (EDT)
- Haha. Alright, thanks. =)- Moonshine
Affiliation
Hello Steve! Glitchman here, and I was just wondering if you would be so kind as to affiliate with my Wiki, the Classic Nintendo Wiki. It's pretty small right now, but it has potential and I figure affiliating with other well-known websites, such as the MW, will boost its popularity. I've already linked to the MW, and I even have an affiliate button, [5]. Glitchman (talk · contribs) 22:52, 30 August 2008 (EDT)
- Sorry, but the answer is no. Not to be unfair, I've finally set a few strict qualifications for sites looking to affiliate. --Steve (talk) 00:58, 31 August 2008 (EDT)
Site Notice
You remember when we used to have the site notice at the top of the page, right?(sorry, stupid question) The thing that said stuff like "The new 'Shroom issue is out" and "We now have our own article on Wikipedia" and various other news about the wiki. And, once we got our own server, and we started getting advertisements on the top and the sides, the site notice dissapeared. I felt them to be pretty handy, and maybe they dissapeared because of the ads in the way or something, but; is there any way to get them back? I felt that it would be easier to get news around in the wiki, considering that the Site Notice Banner was there, whereever on the wiki you were. I just thought it could be nice to get those back. Marcelagus (T • C • E)
- We've very recently implemented an announcement box on the Main Page which we will use for notices that would have otherwise gone on the Site Notice. It's not on every wiki page, but it's as good as we're going to get. --Steve (talk) 16:39, 31 August 2008 (EDT)
- Wait... there's an announcement box? Where? Marcelagus (T • C • E)
- I said Main Page. It currently reads "Users: We would like some feedback, ranging from general activity to current issues." --Steve (talk) 20:00, 31 August 2008 (EDT)
- Oh, that's the announcement box? I thought... it was some random thing. So, what made it so that we used to be able to do it, but not now? What would happen if we did it with the ads in there? Is there a way to eliminate the ads on the top(or do the bottom and side ones interfere, too)? Marcelagus (T • C • E)

Just you know, Crypt Raider (talk) posted some codes on my talk that supposedly could makes the sitenotice appear. However, I'm not sure they really works, especially considering he links to a non-existent page.. --Blitzwing 20:40, 31 August 2008 (EDT)
- I don't want the Sitenotice to appear. If I did, it would still be up there. --Steve (talk) 21:22, 31 August 2008 (EDT)

Skin
May I suggest some red in the skin of this wiki? It fits. R.O.B. 128
- You may, but I don't want this place to look crazy. You can mess around in your monobook.css and let me know how it looks. --Steve (talk) 17:00, 4 September 2008 (EDT)
Ok. Thanks dude :) --R.O.B 128 17:04, 4 September 2008 (EDT)
Uhhh... how do I toggle with it? Can you show me? --R.O.B 128 17:07, 4 September 2008 (EDT)
- It's for customizing the CSS code of the site. I can't teach you CSS; copy this code to your page and you can remove the parts you don't like or tweak it. I hate how light red turns to pink. Red itself is too dark for a background with text over it and I end up with a pink website. --Steve (talk) 15:52, 5 September 2008 (EDT)
Thanks. I'll try and make it work; I don't like pink either. --R.O.B 128 22:08, 5 September 2008 (EDT)

Unsolicited Feedback
Dear porplemontage, I can no longer contain myself. I need to let you know that I feel your lack of looking things up is quite disgusting. I was shocked, appalled and dismayed. I would propose that you consider asking other people, because if you do not, you may lose some population in the chat. All this may come as news to you, though I can assure you that it has been going on since I asked to be a channel operator, if not sooner. I would have informed you sooner, though I was not in a good mood and may have offended you. If you do manage to make this change, I promise to be a fantastic channel operator, which would surely be better. Thank you for your consideration.
Why I kept quiet:
- I thought you already knew.
- I hoped it would solve itself.
- I expected someone else to mention it.
Why I chose to speak up:
- You are otherwise a good person.
- This change would improve our lives.
- All attempts at subtlety have failed.
I implore you:
- Do not take this personally.
- Do not ignore this message.
- Keep us alerted of our flaws.
- Seek help.
- Let us never speak of this again.

- "Looking things up"? I don't know what that means. The dictionary comes to mind. --Steve (talk) 14:46, 6 September 2008 (EDT)
- I can see how you'd see it that way... what I meant was ask unbiased people about me, like mainstreet (DarkMyst IRCer) if I would be a good chanop. Thanks again, CarbonFiberMan 16:33, 6 September 2008 (EDT)
- This whole thing is because I won't make you an op? Really? Guess what: we don't have campaigns for channel operators. This type of thing makes you come across as needy and selfish, and can only hurt your standings. No user is entitled to a position of power; the existing ops and I keep an eye out for capable users to promote if we feel more are needed. I've yet to see the chat apocalypse as a result of you being only a normal user (God forbid), but I'll keep an eye out for it. You've certainly made my job easier when it comes to deciding who I might and might not select as an op in the future. Oh yeah, and don't take it personally. Thanks. --Steve (talk) 17:37, 6 September 2008 (EDT)

Last Step
As you may or may not know, ScribbleWiki has completely shut down, so all of its wikis are inaccessible. Rather than making a music wiki with the MediaWiki I've downloaded, I've decided to make a new Userpedia. (Many users seem very fond of this idea.) Now, I'm on the very last step of creating Userpedia. I have a domain, server, everything I need. I have only one question.
In the file config.inc, there is a section for me to put my password and my username for the db. Could you please show me where exactly to put the db password and db username so that I can get Userpedia started? Perhaps you could copy over the section of the config.inc file, and bold the section(s) as to where I need to put my db password and db username? I, along with many other Userpedia members, would greatly appreciate your help. — Stooben Rooben 12:14, 2 October 2008 (EDT)
- I've never had to touch that file. You can Google for samples of it. --Steve (talk) 20:31, 3 October 2008 (EDT)
Really? Thanks. It seems all the walkthroughs I could find online were for older versions that aren't supported anymore, or for foreign editions that the US doesn't get. I must be stupid because I don't understand MediaWiki's instructions. Could you please explain to me exactly how you set up the MarioWiki? If you'd prefer to do this via PM on the forums, that's fine as well. — Stooben Rooben 11:18, 4 October 2008 (EDT)- Are you trying to setup the database or the wiki itself? For MediaWiki all you have to do is upload its files and go to the site. There, you enter the information about the wiki and the database and the rest is done automatically. As for creating the database, I used the server's control panel. --Steve (talk) 17:45, 4 October 2008 (EDT)
- Well, I made it to the form screen. I've filled in my password, username, e-mail, domain, memcache options, and the wiki's name. The only thing that's stopping me from creating it, is when I enter my db username and db password. It says "please check username and password", or "username incorrect". I think once I pass that part, I can upload files into the wiki and actually get it started. — Stooben Rooben 17:56, 4 October 2008 (EDT)
- And how exactly do I do that? — Stooben Rooben 19:07, 4 October 2008 (EDT)

Toadbert101 was the only op on at the time, and by the time he was back, Boozooka left. I think we need more ops in #mariowiki. ...And I'd like to suggest that Super-Yoshi be one of those ops, as he was on #mariowiki at that time. And perhaps Pokemon DP; he's on every night and doesn't break the rules. — Stooben Rooben 20:11, 10 October 2008 (EDT)

- Now, I'd like to note that the F-Bombs were not censored originally. Boozooka later went into #mariowiki and cursed and broke the rules there.

There seems to be a problem with the 'block new users' feature on the Mario article. M&SG, who has been here for over 1 month, still cannot edit the article; whereas, other users who are newer than him can. Any ideas on what to do? — Stooben Rooben 17:00, 19 October 2008 (EDT)

Problems with the server lately
Hello Steve, do you have any idea how much your bandwidth bill costs? Just curious. :3 Eariler Wayo once said that we all have the bandwidth we need, hence the talk archives I have stored with that comment. That statement may lead me into upload more images, some having larger file size and some small. >;3 Now recently, we are having server issues right now. One of the reasons of this cause is hotlinking. Basically other websites use our images and link them to their website as theirs, what's worse is that they are sucking our bandwidth! The server! (sigh) One of the reasons alas. For more information, read this page and this page for further information. Please take the time to confront this. RAP... Me haz headache... ow. Recovering tomorrow... *tries going to sleep*
- Hotlinking is not one of the reasons for server issues. If bandwidth became tight I would disable it but for now it's not an issue. --Steve (talk) 00:36, 31 October 2008 (EDT)

I think it would be good to promote him to Op in chat. He's on everyday, follows the rules, is nice, and immediately informs an Op when there's trouble. (Unless there isn't one around.) — Stooben Rooben 15:54, 2 November 2008 (EST)

Swearing
Us users aren't suppose to swear on this wiki right? I found a swear in the proposal page. (I tried censord it but he undo what I did then relied this in the summary bar (→Comments - "I. Don't. Freaking. Care. Do not modificate other users comment! That's in the freaking rules") Grapes
- "Damn" is a really, really mild "swear". If it was the f-bomb, I could understand, but that? It's not even offending if you're not Christian. --Blitzwing 07:48, 3 November 2008 (EST)
Mario Calendar
Hi Porple.
I made a Mario Calendar to go for the Main Page, and it's sorta like Wikipedia's "On this day". This calendar shows all past release dates of Mario games released on that month. For example, right now it's November so the calendar shows all past Mario games that were released on November. I think it's a great idea and before putting it on the Main Page, I wanted to see if you approved.
Paper Jorge (Talk·Contribs)Soo...can it go on the Main Page?
- It's not bad; somewhat interesting. Make a proposal for it, and if it passes I'll be the one to put it up. --Steve (talk) 19:05, 3 November 2008 (EST)

I just wonder...
...may I create the rest of the calendars for the rest months of the year, already? Creating them all at the same time seems to save some time, since when creating them at different times, you don't need to go back to lists when checking on the Internet just because that or that game was released in another month than the one you're collecting Mario data on, the same thing when looking after dates in magazines, newspapers, etc. KingMario (talk)

Thank you for using my 1st logo. I changed the background of the newer versions. The pictures are now all in the same format, also game pictures are reorganized and some even replaced. Games in the background of the new logo include in order:
- Super Mario Bros.
- Super Mario World
- New Super Mario Bros.
- Super Mario 64
- Super Mario Sunshine
- Super Mario Galaxy
- Mario Kart 64
- Mario Tennis (64)
- Mario Superstar Baseball
The old logo included in order:
- Super Mario Bros.
- Super Mario World
- New Super Mario Bros.
- Mario Kart 64
- Super Mario Sunshine
- Mario Power Tennis
- Super Mario 64
- Mario Superstar Baseball
- Super Mario Galaxy
Personally, I like MarioWikiLogo3-1 better than 3-2, but someone once said to me he liked yellow better than white-pink, that’s why I made two versions. I hope you like it. rend (talk) (edits)

Hey!
Just thought I'd formally introduce myself, since we hardly know each other and I assume we'll be working closely in the future! Nice to meet you. Can you give me a run-down on what's expected of me now that I'm promoted? Stumpers! 23:21, 1 December 2008 (EST)
- Good to hear from you, Stumpers. Of course technically, I've entrusted you with the power to manage user rights on the wiki. Your prominence as a figure on the wiki stage, judgment, and activity on the site are qualities which contributed to your promotion, and in this period of transition, I will allow you some leeway in finding your place as a wiki bureaucrat. I may call upon you, as well as our colleagues Stooben Rooben and Time Q, for your unique perspective on the wiki community if any decisions are needed to be made. From trouble in wikiville to improvements to the website, I trust any input to be reported to me, and the four of us can decide what action to take. These types of things being the exception and not the rule--it's all part of our hierarchy of power. There are issues facing the wiki that sysops can deal with, but for the larger issues, we have the bureaucrats to turn to. I would advise you to keep doing what you've been doing, and you'll fall into place as bureaucrat of the Super Mario Wiki. --Steve (talk) 00:47, 2 December 2008 (EST)
And on top of that, I'd like to sincerely thank you for promoting me. I promise to do the best I can with my powers! — Stooben Rooben 00:18, 2 December 2008 (EST)
Can I use the old wiki logo?
Hello! On the italian Mario Wiki(http://it.mario.wikia.com/wiki/Pagina_principale), the logo is the old one of this wiki, and somebody told me that: so I'm asking you: can I use it (giving credits)? If not, I'll remove it. Thanks for the attention :) --Enderjin 14:04, 6 December 2008 (EST)
- I'm not going to say no, but I would advise you to create your own site design and images. Your wiki would probably do better if your visitors saw that it is something original, and not just a carbon copy of another site. --Steve (talk) 17:58, 6 December 2008 (EST)
Hi, I'm one of the admins on the Italian Mario Wiki. I've changed a lot of things: [15] (you may need to refresh the cache of the browser to see the changes). I will soon change everything that is too similar to this Wiki. For the pages content, I must say that we are not copying, but translating the english articles in italian. I hope you will accept our apologies for all the mistakes we made. Thanks. --Grim80 09:31, 9 December 2008 (EST)
- Paraphrasing our articles still is kinda copying. Contributors should use their own words. Wa TC@Y 15:53, 9 December 2008 (EST)
No, translating is not copying. It is a common practice even on Wikipedia. --Grim80 08:31, 10 December 2008 (EST)
It not!? What do you mean. Your site translating this sites' article and other stuff to Italian right. That is still stealing because in your site users are just tranlating work that came from here. Sheese laziness is no excuse why can't the users on the Italian MarioWikia right their own contant. Anyways isn't MarioWiki's work is copyright? What about asking your sister site MarioWikia in English to use their contant, you're the same wikia but yours is in Italian while theirs is in english. [16] Grapes
Eww that Wikia's articles are very bad. Anyway, don't be so negative about us. Our itention was never been to steal. We didn't know that we were violating the copyright. If you don't want us to translate te articles, I will create articles of my own. I'm not lazy... the only lazy users are those who create an article with only a small sentence. Anyway, I promise that wel'll cite the source if something is translated from here. --Grim80 14:54, 10 December 2008 (EST)
Grapes, you need to take it easy. The purpose of wikis is to encourage free flow of information across the internet. Anything on this wiki can be used and redistributed freely by anyone else according to the GNU Free Documentation License at the bottom of every page here. Our work is not really copyrighted in a strict sense - anyone including the Italian Mario wiki can use our content. All they have to do is cite where they got the information from as best they can. So I say to Grim80 feel free to translate anything you want from here, just try to cite that we were the original source. We need to get past exclusive "ownership" of information so that everyone has the ability to read and use content as they wish. =) -- Son of Suns (talk)
Well then excuse me for my uneasy. I'm sorry up what I said up above. =D Grapes
Thanks for the clarification Son of Suns. I will immediately cite the source on any page translated from here. --Grim80 15:21, 10 December 2008 (EST)
Thanks!! P.S. Here are the rules: Creative Commons. Italian Mario wiki can do whatever it wants with our content except use it to make money. All they have to do is attribute the articles they copy or translate to this site (via at least a link) and promise that their translated content can then be re-distributed by other wikis, just as we have let them use our content. =D

Poll Selection
Are you the one whose supposed to delete opposed or repeated polls in the poll selection? -
Hey, Steve! Well, I've got something to say. I think we you should enforce some new rules in the Poll Selection. Here's a list of them:
- Repeated polls sholud be DELETED, like this one.
- If a poll is "losing" with a certain difference of votes (could be 5 or 6, IMO), then it would be deleted too. E.g. a poll has 2 supporters and 8 opposers, so it should be deleted.
- If a poll is created with a REALLY BAD setup, and if at least two users say that, it should be deleted too.
Well, I hope you read this soon. Have a nice day! Paper Yoshi Talk 07:26, 9 January 2009 (EST)
