In Starborn Valley, Mario runs into Merle during the events of Paper Mario. Follow him to his cabin and he'll give Mario the Scarf. Put it on a snowman between Shiver City and Starborn Valley to help open the doorway to Shiver Mountain and the Crystal Palace.

- In the beta version of Paper Mario, this item was called the Fabulous Scarf.
