(The Japanese title of the Defeat four ducks! level refers to them as DDs, the NoA email response refers to "Duck", and Nintendo Power Vol.106 pg. 70 calls them "ducks", etc. - they're "ducks" by all accounts in Wario Land II - so shouldn't that be considered the current name?)

Wario Land: Super Mario Land 3

Sprite of a D.D.

D.D.s first appear in Wario Land: Super Mario Land 3, where they try to hinder Wario on his quest for treasure on Kitchen Island. When one spots him, it will stop walking, hit its boomerang on the ground three times, and then throw it at Wario, damaging him if it hits him. They can be stunned and picked up, though they are among the heavier enemies in the game owing to their size.

Wario Land II

D.D.s, referred to as ducks, return in Wario Land II. Their attack pattern remains exactly the same as it was in the previous game, though they and their boomerangs are physically smaller by a small amount, and the latter spin faster. Like the previous game, they are classified as heavy enemies in this game, meaning that Wario will slow down significantly when carrying one. In the Game Boy Color version, they are usually given an orange, mint green, and dark blue palette.

Final Chapter, Story 3: Defeat four ducks!

In Defeat four ducks!, the level's objective is to seek and defeat four of them. In the Game Boy Color re-release, these are given a deep red, blue, and black color palette.

Additionally, an unlockable minigame known as Flagman D-D can be accessed by completing the game with 100%. It features a D.D. as a host, along with a white puff and a Gugi. The minigame itself was a remake of the Game & Watch title Flagman.
