"Subseries"
Sorry for not being more clear before on the series template talk page. I was not saying that your reasoning for calling the 3D Super Mario games the "Super Mario subseries" was to distinguish them as the "MAINLINE mainline games". My point was that the terminology gives that impression, regardless of intent. My suggestion is that if you do want to divide the mainline games into multiple "subseries" (which I still do not recommend), then a system like this would make more sense:
- Super Mario (series):
- Super Mario Bros. (subseries):
- Super Mario Bros.
- Super Mario Bros.: The Lost Levels
- Super Mario Bros. 2
- Super Mario Bros. 3
- Super Mario World
- New Super Mario Bros. (sub-subseries):
- New Super Mario Bros.
- New Super Mario Bros. Wii
- New Super Mario Bros. 2
- New Super Mario Bros. U
- Super Mario Bros. Wonder
- Super Mario Land (subseries):
- Super Mario Land
- Super Mario Land 2: 6 Golden Coins
- Super Mario 64
- Super Mario Sunshine
- Super Mario Galaxy (subseries):
- Super Mario Galaxy
- Super Mario Galaxy 2
- Super Mario 3D (subseries):
- Super Mario 3D Land
- Super Mario 3D World
- Super Mario Maker (subseries):
- Super Mario Maker
- Super Mario Maker 2
- Super Mario Run
- Super Mario Odyssey
- Super Mario Bros. (subseries):
