Hello, all you readers of The 'Shroom, one final time from the chair in the big office! Everything is neatly put away in boxes, and I'll be carrying it over to the Strategy Wing office soon. I'm pleased to announce that Shoey (talk) and Meta Knight (talk) won our Director Election and are thus your new Director and Sub-Director! I've worked closely with the both of them for a long time now, and I can tell you that they are both extremely passionate when it comes to this paper. Shoey has been a dedicated writer for years, and Meta Knight has held various staff positions in the past, always looking for new ways to set the paper up for long-term success. I'm handing the keys to the paper off to a good set of hands!

Before I take my leave, I'd like to thank all of you, readers, writers, and staff, once again, for making issue 200 the amazing milestone celebration it was. That was truly the defining moment of this past term, and this community certainly turned it into something wonderful that won't be forgotten any time soon! Thank you all, as well, for entrusting Waluigi Time and I with the paper this past year. It's humbling to have been trusted with seeing a long-standing community tradition through a major milestone, and it's been a joy to support the paper and the community that surrounds it and builds it up.

Now, looking to a bright future under Shoey and Meta Knight, it's worth noting that we've got the Poll Committee Chairperson Election coming up next month! You might remember it having been in June in the past, but a proposal by current Chairperson Fun With Despair (talk) moved it to February to better align it with other community elections and events. This will be the first time we're holding it in February, so consider this a reminder so it doesn't slip your mind! The Poll Committee is a great place to get experience working on community projects with a small, focused team, and chairing the committee is an excellent way to get some experience leading community projects. If you're at all interested, it's worth it to toss your hat in the ring and give it a go!

Anyhow, that's everything from me. Thanks again, everyone, for everything. With all of you behind the paper, I know it has a bright 2024 and beyond! Now then, let me turn it over to Waluigi Time one last time and get on out of here!

Hooded Pitohui, Director

Hello there, 'Shroom readers! Welcome to the first issue of the year, and the last one of the directing term! Pitohui and I are just about packed up and ready to hand our offices over to the next team. After spending two years writing half of the Staff Notes, it feels kind of weird that I won't be doing it anymore for the foreseeable future. But hey, maybe I can take an extended vacation in the tropics and send all my sections to Shoey and Meta by email.

As things wind down and we prepare for a new directing team to take over, there's not much to announce right now, so I'd like to turn your attention over to Poochy's Picks! It's that table right underneath me, if you haven't noticed it yet. Something that we really want to achieve here at The 'Shroom is making sure our writers tangibly feel appreciated, because they are! As you're reading this issue, be sure to keep in mind that if you particularly enjoy a section, we encourage you to send it through the Poochy's Picks form to get a special highlight in the next Staff Notes. You can find the link for that in the table below. It doesn't take long at all, and you're letting our writers know that you enjoy their work when you do it!

Congratulations Shoey and Meta, and to everyone else, enjoy the issue!

Waluigi Time, Sub-Director

Poochy's Picks
Poochy brought a present for the new year! It looks like he found some wonderful and innovative sections last month!

Poochy's Picks from Issue 201
Section Writer Comments
It's aMAZEing Ninja Squid (talk) This was a very welcome return of this classic staple of Fun Stuff. Ninja Squid's sleek art of the Wonder Flower is a visual treat for readers as they work through the maze.
The Mariospective Goombuigi (talk) A nice, thorough look into the NES port of Mario's gaming debut. Goombuigi's high-quality review is especially worth reading for anyone with access to these retro games - you just might find a hidden gem or consider giving something a second chance!
Picross Camwoodstock (talk) This new take on a classic section exemplifies just how much room there is to explore additional section interactivity. With Camwoodstock and Tori building upon Espyo's Picross applet, this section showcases just one of many possible ways 'Shroom sections might use interactive elements to entertain and delight readers.
