Hello, and welcome to the first issue of the Shoey and Meta reign of terror! It's an honor and a privilege to lead this great newspaper, and I only hope that, with a little luck, I only go down as, like, the third-worst director in history! We've got a lot to cover in these ol' notes, all of it good!

Let's start with the best news. In addition to our usual sections, we have three additional sections this month, with two being specials and one being a new recurring section! For our specials, we have Goombuigi taking a deep dive (and I mean DEEP) into the history of special issues of the paper. Sparks brings us a one-off (for now) review about a My Little Pony movie. Finally, freshly-retired former Director Hooded Pitohui has a new section in Pipe Plaza all about NPCs in certified 7/10 Mario 3D platformer Super Mario Sunshine. I hope you enjoy everything this issue has to offer!

Now, for what we've all been waiting for, some bureaucratic news! The 'Shroom Consultant position has been expanded. In the past, it primarily existed as a way for previous 'Shroom Staff members to continue offering input, but the staff decided to expand the role to three trusted members of the community. As such, I'd like to give the official welcome to our three new consultants! Goombuigi (talk), BBQ Turtle (talk), and finally Fun With Despair (talk) (or Junko, as his friends call him). I'm sure all three will offer tremendous contributions in the coming year!

We have one more 'Shroom Staff related-matter to discuss. As mentioned last month, GBA (talk) has officially retired from his role as Graphics Design Manager. Now, as many of you will know, we've revamped the whole art aspect of The 'Shroom. In the past, it was basically "hey, you, art boy! Make all this art now!!!" We decided that this was untenable, so we've switched to a more collaborative volunteer team! So far the response has been an absolute success, with twelve highly-talented artists (and Rose (talk)) joining the volunteer team. But while the position has been changed, we're still looking for a new Design Manager to lead the team! Shortly after Issue 203 is posted, a thread will be posted with all the details for anybody interested in applying for the new-and-improved Design Manager position.

Finally, in the spirit of this great nation, democracy is once again back, baby! This month, we have an election for Poll Committee Chairperson. Now, you might be thinking "that sounds kind of boring". Perhaps you're right, dear reader, but just consider all the allies you'll be able to make by awarding patronage positions in the form of Poll Committee spots in some sort of weird, modern-day spoils system! But in all seriousness, being Poll Committee Chairperson (or just joining the Poll Committee in general) is a good way to get your first real experience leading and participating in a community project. For details on both the duties of Poll Committee Chairperson as well as how you can run, you can click right here.

That's all for me this month. Hopefully the rest of my notes as director aren't this long! But with that, I turn it over to my Sub-Director, Meta Knight.

Rally the Valley!

Shoey, Director

Welcome 'Shroom believers! I never thought I would be back in the Staff Notes as part of the Directing Staff, but here we are. Shoey has already explained in great detail the majority of new updates that we have in store for you. That being said, I have one more announcement. One of our campaign promises was to put a greater emphasis on writer acknowledgement. We wanted to make sure each and every writer felt appreciated. As part of this motion, we will be providing a credits list from now on. This is a simple step, but one we feel is beneficial for everyone involved. If you want to be on it, you should send me your creative works! Additionally, we've decided to branch off Poochy's Picks into its own dedicated staff section. We're hoping that by doing so, we can draw more eyes onto the sections that are being highlighted from last month's issue. That being said, a sincere thanks to all of our writers, and to you for keeping up with The 'Shroom for all these years.
