Cascading Stones[1], also described as falling stone blocks[2] or falling blocks[3], are platforms of various shapes and sizes introduced in Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island. When stood upon by Yoshi, they fall down into the ground, or off the screen. They shake when Yoshi stands on one, indicating that they will fall. They appear in World 2-1: Visit Koopa And Para-Koopa, World 2-7: Lakitu's Wall, and World 5-7: Shifting Platforms Ahead. In the GBA reissue, Yoshi's Island: Super Mario Advance 3, they additionally appear in Secret 1: Exercise in the Skies.

In Yoshi's Island DS, the rocks mainly appear in World 4-1: Rock 'n' Fall. They reappear in Yoshi's New Island as a feature of World 2-1: Koopa Canyon, where their falling behavior was slightly altered, as they shake before abruptly falling instead of a more gradual descent. In the former, similar obstacles known as Sliding Blocks[4] appear in World 3-7: Tap-Tap's Sunken Cave and World 4-7: Teeth-Chattering Chill Zone. The latter game also includes similar terrain in World 6-7: Crumble Rock Rumble. In Yoshi's Woolly World, Cascading Stones are made out of yarn, and appear in World 4-2: Lakitu Peekaboo.
