| Bombshell Koopas, originally known as Nokobon or Nobokon, are a species of Koopa Troopas with a bomb for a shell appearing in Super Mario Land. They are the most common enemy in Super Mario Land, appearing in all levels except for Worlds 2-3 (the Marine Pop level) and 4-3 (the Sky Pop level). Like red-shelled Koopa Troopas, Bombshell Koopas do not walk off of edges, but merely pace back and forth on the platform. Bombshell Koopas are not immune to Superballs, and they explode shortly after being stomped. They do not explode if a Superball is used on them. They are somewhat similar to the recurring Bob-ombs, except they cannot be moved and their blast radius is small and cannot take out other enemies and obstacles.

| In Super Mario Land 2: 6 Golden Coins, normal Koopa Troopas appear as enemies, and Bombshell Koopas themselves are succeeded by a Buzzy Beetle-like variant, Noko Bombette, whose name is a reference to the original Nokobon.
| | A Nokobon is a black Koopa-like creature found in the game Super Mario Land. Nokobons explode shortly after being stomped and are immune to superballs. They have bombs as shells, implying that they may be related to Bob-ombs. Luckily, the blast radius was not so large. They replace Koopa Troopas in Super Mario Land, as it would've taken longer to program the richochet effects of Koopa shells on the Game Boy. They are worth 100 points to kill. Nokobons are the most common enemy in the game, appearing in all levels besides the last one. Nokobons resemble ordinary Koopa Troopas with a black shell. It is widely believed that the Black Shells from Mario Kart Arcade GP are in fact Nokobon shells. |

| In the Super Mario Land manga, Bombshell Koopas are the second enemy type met by Mario and Mecha Kuribō (after the Goombos). Mario stomps on them and they turn into bombs, confusing Mario enough to get hit by their explosions. In the last chapter, a Goombo steals a magical seal from the Chai Kingdom temple that prevented it from being attacked by Pionpi, and tosses it to an exploding Bombshell Koopa, destroying it, in the hope that the Pionpi bite the heroes sheltered in the palace.

| | A different type of Nokobon appears in Super Mario Land 2. In this game, they're called Noko Bombettes. If the name was translated to english, it would roughly be translated as Turtle Robot. They are called Nokobons in the US due to poor localization, as Super Mario Land was rushed to the US to be sold with the Game Boy. |
|
| |
|
| In Gold, a Bombshell Koopa appears in the second level of the microgame Super Mario Land.
