The Lightfish[1] is an Animal Friend[citation needed] in Donkey Kong 64. It only appears in Gloomy Galleon, where it follows the active Kong inside the sunken ships and helps them navigate its dark cabins by lighting up the path forward, much like Glimmer does in Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy's Kong Quest. Whenever it is nearby, a bubbling sound plays. The game's official site used the wording "a Lightfish" in reference to it, suggesting that the Lightfish is part of a species.[1]

The German strategy guide and Spanish Nintendo website both refer to the Lightfish as Glimmer;[2][3] the former also features artwork of the Lightfish with a mildly different appearance, much more similar to the Donkey Kong Country 2 Animal Friend.

The Lightfish was designed by Chris Seavor,[4][5] former Rareware game designer and voice actor of Conker.
