Some Lurchins move more quickly than others. Because of their spiky shell, a Lurchin hurts the [[Kong]]s on contact. A Lurchin can be defeated from [[Enguarde]]'s sword stab, like other underwater enemies, but Lurchins are unique in that Enguarde can damage them only while their squishy portion is exposed, because touching Lurchin's spiky shell similarly damages Enguarde. In [[Dixie Kong's Photo Album]], a Lurchin is featured as a photograph within the "[[Aquatic Attackers]]" enemy class. In the [[Donkey Kong Country 3 (Game Boy Advance)|remake]], Lurchins in [[Ripcurl Reef]] are cosmetically different, having a yellow shell, purple spikes and a green center.

Lurchins can only be defeated with help from [[Enguarde the Swordfish|Enguarde]] or [[Nibbla]]. However, Enguarde can only defeat Lurchins when their shells are open, or else he'll get hurt instead. As for Nibbla, while it can eat the Lurchins, it's not an advisable move, as this will worsen Nibbla's mood until it eventually attacks the Kongs itself. However, Nibbla does have to eat a specific Lurchin to reveal the path to a [[Bonus Barrel]] in [[Fish Food Frenzy]].
