Double Pain is a badge in Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door. It can be bought from Charlieton for 36 coins in the original version and 60 coins in the remake. If Mario equips this badge, all damage dealt to him, whether through enemies or through items, is doubled. This applies to the damage he would have normally received without the badge and is affected by guarding and badges that increase Mario's defense. This does not affect Mario's partners. Having this badge equipped will also double the damage received by achieving a Poison Mushroom Bingo!, resulting in an instant KO.
While only one copy of the badge is normally obtainable, hacking reveals unique behavior should Mario wear multiple copies at once. The amount of damage taken is multiplied by the number of Double Pain badges worn plus one, so two badges multiply by three.[1] This was implemented in the remake where additional copies can now be found and equipped.
