The Star Rod also appears as an item in every ''[[Super Smash Bros. (series)|Super Smash Bros.]]'' game. The Star Rod can be used as a battering item, or by using as Smash Attack the player can shoot out a star at opponents. The Star Rod can shoot twenty stars. Two characters swing their Star Rods in a different manner than the rest: [[Sheik]] shoots two stars one after another while [[Captain Falcon]] shoots one, then four stars at once.

In ''[[Super Smash Bros. Ultimate]]'', the Star Rod appears as a [[Spirit (Super Smash Bros. Ultimate)|spirit]]. In order to obtain the spirit, the player must fight four [[Kirby]]s that use Star Rods.

The Star Rod's first ''[[Super Mario (franchise)|Super Mario]]''-related appearance is in [[Super Mario-kun Volume 7|volume 7]] of ''[[Super Mario-kun]]'', where it appears among the items stolen by the [[collector]] that gets taken back by Kirby. While exploring the [[Space Zone]] in [[Super Mario-kun Volume 9|volume 9]], [[Mario]] creates a Star Rod by fusing a [[Super Star]] with a rod given to him by the [[Hippo]] and uses it to defeat [[No. 48]].
