Table Tennis (Doubles) is a Court & Field Sports Event that appears in the Nintendo 3DS version of Mario & Sonic at the London 2012 Olympic Games. The objective of the event is to score three points before the opponent.

Gameplay[edit]

In this event, the player must select a team of two characters from the Heroes category, and will play against a team of the other two heroes. In this event, the player hits the ball by pressing the A button, however with each return the character that the player must use changes, meaning that they may to use the control pad to swap the characters' positions. If the player attempts to hit the ball with the wrong character, they will miss and the other team will score the point. The other team will also score a point if the player hits the ball too early or too late, even if it is with the correct character. To score a point against the other team, the player must return the ball which the correct character on the opposing team must miss. A more powerful shot is returned if the player returns the ball with better timing, which indicated by the ball being surrounded by stars and is slightly harder for the other team to hit. If either team returns the ball with very poor timing, the ball will be returned at a low speed and the other team will be able to return it with a very powerful shot, which causes the ball to be surrounded by flames and is even harder for the other team to return. The first team to win three points wins the event, however, as there are only two teams competing, it is impossible to get any medal other than gold or silver. The third and fourth places are taken by a pair of Koopa Troopas and a pair of Chao. The match is refereed by Toad, while the score is kept by a yellow Toad.
