Is it presicly confirmed that Green is the Yoshi standard color. Just because Yoshi is doesn't mean the majority of them are. HyperToad@Green YoshiHT Sig.png

THE Yoshi is green, but there are lots of different colours.-- A message from Shadow Yoshi.

Green[edit]

Just because a yoshi is green, dosn't mean he is THE Yoshi. Right? A message from Shadow Yoshi.

According to the article: Yes. Time Questions 06:59, 28 June 2008 (EDT)

This article is kinda written as if Yoshi himself isn't really a character: for example, "In Mario Power Tennis, a Green Yoshi is playable." and "In Super Mario World, Green Yoshi had green skin, but orange gloves, brown shoes and a brown saddle." Where it says "Green Yoshi" or "a Green Yoshi", shouldn't it say something like "Yoshi, who is a Green Yoshi"? Isn't Yoshi the only green yoshi in the Marioverse?(exept the babies) I didn't see two green yoshis in a same game.Dry Bones in Paper MarioCount Bonsula I need blood...Ml2 drybones.png

Paper Mario has more than one green Yoshi. Mario (Santa)'s map icon from Mario Kart Tour Mario-HOHO! (Talk / Stalk) 23:09, 4 March 2010 (EST)

Yes it has more than one of every Yoshi though. ForeverDaisy09 23:14, 4 March 2010 (EST)

Merge/Redirect into Yoshi[edit]

no merge 1-5
I've tried asking the question multiple times: How do we know the difference between Yoshi appearing as a species character and appearing as a singular character known as simply Yoshi. I of course am returning to THE Yoshi, not just Yoshi species.

Nobody ever seems to know how to answer this question. Why? Because the Yoshi that appears in Mario games that is Green is simply Yoshi the specific character who appears in Mario games frequently. I suggest we simply merge this Green Yoshi page into Yoshi, the character, page and just have it so that any reference to Green Yoshi simply redirects back to Yoshi the character.

It has to be the same Yoshi because ever since the first appearance of Yoshi it was green. I'm also fairly certain that aside from special instances where the Yoshi are just a species, this Green Yoshi makes all of the same appearances as THE Yoshi character. Confusing right? That's why these pages should just be one in the same.

I'm not sure how thoroughly I can go over this but I would like to talk with as many people as possible about this because it's a very confusing subject.

Merge Green Yoshi to Yoshi THE Character[edit]

  1. FD09 Per proposal.

Don't Merge[edit]

  1. Walkazo (talk) - All the other colours get pages, so this has to as well for consistency's sake. Even though a lot of the time we can't tell is any given green Yoshi is the Yoshi, simply saying all the individuals are him is more speculative. And there have been a few cases where a green Yoshi that definitely wasn't Yoshi appeared, such as the Yoshi's Story Yoshi (a child, whereas the Yoshi was already an adult during the preceding Yoshi's Island). The Yoshi Kid's Stampede attack in Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door involves massive amounts of green Yoshis, not to mention the newlywed, green Yoshi businessman found on the Excess Express, and the Yoshi Kid himself (sometimes). Baby green Yoshis hatch at the end of Super Mario World and Yoshi's Island DS. The modern version of the Game & Watch game Chef also has multiple green Yoshis (the first Yoshi lays an egg which turns into a new green Yoshi that replaces the first Yoshi and eventually lays its own egg in a never-ending cycle). That's all I can name off the top of my head at the moment, but I'm sure there's more.
  2. KS3 (talk) Per Walkazo.
  3. LeftyGreenMario (talk) No one (except for Nintendo, maybe) can assume that all green Yoshis is the one name after his species. Besides, as Walkazo stated, there are multiple green Yoshis that appeared in Paper Mario, Game and Watch. Walkazo can be wrong though, but only if Nintendo stated that all of those Yoshis are clones of the original (but they never did).
  4. Time Q (talk): Per Walkazo.
  5. Homestar Runner (talk) Per Walkazo.

Should we remove the expand tag?[edit]

I was thinking if we should remove the expand tag, because I think we have enough cover for the Green Yoshi for now. Do you think the expand tag should be removed? QBert64

What's the rewrite tag for?[edit]

Could anyone please explain why is there a rewrite tag in the Green Yoshi page? The writing looks fine to me. QBert64

Merge Green Yoshi with Yoshi or Yoshi (species)[edit]

This article is messy. While ostensibly about the Yoshi color, it doesn't know if it really wants to be about the character or the species, which have enough overlap as it is. A third article about practically the same subject is unnecessary and infringes once and only once. This proposal will turn Green Yoshi into a redirect for either Yoshi or Yoshi (species). If it passes, I also suggest deleting its gallery, as much of it is already used in the character or species galleries, or both. There will probably be a follow-up proposal to determine what to do with the other Yoshi colors, which are merely an aesthetic difference in the vast majority of appearances.

Merge with Yoshi[edit]

  1. LinkTheLefty (talk) My secondary choice, as it still cleans up such an extraneous article.
  2. FanOfYoshi (talk) Second choice, as i don't want the rest of the colored Yoshis be merged to Yoshi (species). The rest REALLY deserves their own article.
  3. Yoshi the SSM (talk) After a bit of thinking, I decided on this: if I was wanting to search for Green Yoshi, I would want to be taken to a page with Yoshis of the color green. And since the character Yoshi is green, I wouldn't mind this redirecting to him.
  4. GrainedCargo192 (talk) I thought all the green Yoshis were the same Yoshi.
  5. MarioManiac1981 (talk) I've noticed a lot of information on the character's page repeated in this page, and vice-versa. I'm all in for this.

Merge with Yoshi (species)[edit]

  1. LinkTheLefty (talk) My preferred choice, as other green Yoshis have made their appearance.
  2. Waluigi Time (talk) At this time, I support the idea of all Yoshi colors being merged to the species page.
  3. Toadette the Achiever (talk) Ehh, while I do wish we were able to deal with every colored Yoshi article in one fell swoop, this page in particular duplicates the Yoshi (species) page, and should probably be merged there instead of the base Yoshi page.
  4. Baby Luigi (talk) Per Waluigi Time. None of the Yoshi colors are great standalone pages and any info they may have can easily be organized in their species page.
  5. MarioManiac1981 (talk) My second choice.

Keep Green Yoshi[edit]

  1. FanOfYoshi (talk) There is a difference between the character and the species.
  2. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) Thought it over, and I think this should be an "all or nothing" kind of thing. This one shouldn't get unequally-small "species" treatment because an alleged "character" happens to be consistently portrayed that color. Either they all get merged, or none do.

Comments[edit]

I would rather already see a much larger proposal concerning what to do with every colored Yoshi article, rather than just dealing with this one first, tbh. Toadette icon CTTT.pngFont of Archivist Toadette's signature(T|C) 01:55, 8 March 2019 (EST)

I feel like that's a separate issue because a few of them did have minor gameplay differences in Super Mario World, and they're returning judging from the Super Mario Maker 2 trailer. LinkTheLefty (talk) 06:07, 8 March 2019 (EST)

FanOfYoshi: This isn't about the "character" or the "species" articles, it's about a third article that's somewhere in the middle and basically duplicates information from both. LinkTheLefty (talk) 06:15, 8 March 2019 (EST)

Also, the rest of the colored Yoshis aren't factored in this proposal, and if I do make a proposal about them, I'll include an option to leave the basic three from Super Mario World alone. LinkTheLefty (talk) 06:30, 8 March 2019 (EST)
I'd argue for a merge for those three too, actually. The gameplay abilities each have are as unique as the fruit preferences in Yoshi's Story or their stats in the Mario Baseball games in that they can easily be described in a paragraph or chart. BabyLuigiFire.pngRay Trace(T|C) 22:40, 8 March 2019 (EST)
I would too, but I figure it's a safe option. Anyway, it seems I'm getting more support than I thought I would for the other Yoshi colors. Should I just add it to this proposal? LinkTheLefty (talk) 00:45, 9 March 2019 (EST)

@Yoshi the SSM: There are other green Yoshis besides the Yoshi character, you know. Toadette icon CTTT.pngFont of Archivist Toadette's signature(T|C) 09:29, 9 March 2019 (EST)

Yeah, but from what I am understanding, it is being redirected to the page. Which is why I say that redirecting it to that page would be more ideal than to redirect to the species article. Was thinking about asking for an option to make it an disambig, but decided to vote for that option to make it clear that I didn't support redirecting it to the species page.
But, if we keep Green Yoshi and don't turn it into a redirect, what would it mean for the article? The answer of the question could help me decide whether or not to vote to keep Green Yoshi. Red Yoshi in a construction hat walking Yoshi the SSM (talk) 23:02, 9 March 2019 (EST)

@GrainedCargo192: No, they are not. This misconception isn't helped by the state of the current Yoshi article, but that's another topic. LinkTheLefty (talk) 12:59, 9 March 2019 (EST)

To those who support merging Green Yoshi with Yoshi the character: That article is already extremely speculative at points, and merging these two will make it even worse. --Waluigi's head icon in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. Too Bad! Waluigi Time! 22:00, 9 March 2019 (EST)

Not to mention multiple green Yoshis have been seen at once, notably in the stampede attack in TTYD. In fact, the one on the train in said game was just a random average Joe who didn't know Mario at all. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 22:16, 9 March 2019 (EST)
I'm a bit confused. --Ski Yoshi FanOfYoshi A Dr. Freezegood 15:09, 10 March 2019 (EDT)

Since I'm getting support to deal with the other Yoshi colors, I have canceled the proposal. The replacement proposal can be found here. LinkTheLefty (talk) 19:32, 10 March 2019 (EDT)
