Talk:List of Super Mario Galaxy glitches
Any reference?[edit]
Is there any reference that the Yoshi Planet in Good Egg Galaxy glitch exists? Because I searched and can't find anything about this glitch. Akfamilyhome 08:19, 17 April 2011 (EDT)
- Problem solved.

Impossible[edit]
Some of the glitches in this article are little dreams that are impossible to pull off. For example, the Unactivated Megaleg Glitch doesn't work because even at Luigi's jumping point, he can't reach Megaleg's Moon. Then the "Through the Beacon" glitch doesn't work, because you can't fly THROUGH it, you can fly TO it and fall. Luion 13:57, 7 November 2011 (EDT)
It is possible to reach Megaleg using the glitch, you just need to spin at the peak of the jump, also, I have only done that as Mario, so maybe Luigi does not work when attempting it. Eevee1735

Hey[edit]
I have a cool glitch. Mind if I tell you?Tf2 fan810 (talk) 01:52, 10 October 2012 (EDT)
- Any information pertaining to glitches in Super Mario Galaxy is welcome (so long as it is verifiable). Mario4Ever (talk)
Ok. It is about a flutter-jumping Crabber.Tf2 fan810 (talk) 01:24, 25 October 2012 (EDT)
I tried to do it but it wouldn't let me! What do I do??!Tf2 fan810 (talk) 01:29, 25 October 2012 (EDT)
Climbing up walls?[edit]
Someone forgot to (I think) put in Climbing up walls glitch?!

Somethin'[edit]
Hey guys I think that the Invincible Koopa Troopa shell glitch doesn't only work with the red koopa troopa shell because while I was playing as Luigi in Bowser Jr's Airship Armada I found out that it worked with these other koopa troopa during the boss fight. Can you please check for the other galaxies please ( Like just grab any shell and test it ) Koopas lost shell 12:13, 9 September 2016 (EDT)
Another glitch[edit]
I found a glitch where if you jump to the edge of the observatory and then jump off, the bubble doesn't put you back at the edge. It puts you back at the place you were before you jumped to the edge (This is easily seen if you jump from the Terrace).

- I am pretty sure that is intended.--Super Mario Fan 67 (T•C•S) 15:43, 30 March 2017 (EDT)
Lives not saved[edit]
I had ten lives after getting the ones from the mailtoad. I quit the game, reset, and then loaded my save file. Everything was saved, except for the amount of lives. I had four instead of ten. Josh Jepson said in his LP that he had the same problem. Stinkoman20x6 (talk) 01:37, 19 June 2017 (EDT)
- This is intentional; it happens in other games as well. LB (talk • edits • forum) 01:53, 19 June 2017 (EDT)
Destroy Unactivated Megaleg?[edit]
In the Unactivated Megaleg glitch, could the player lead a Bullet Bill to Megaleg's Moon? If so, would it be able to destroy the cage surrounding the Grand Star dome? And if so, would Megaleg remain deactivated if the cage was destroyed? What about luring multiple Bills and entirely defeating Megaleg?
(--) 16:12, 4 November 2017 (EDT)
- It seems that the bullet bill gets destroyed when too far from the player, which (at least from all my attempts) always happens if you try to lure one to the other planet. Maybe there's some precise way to do it or something involving Co-Star mode? Otherwise it doesn't seem possible, that would be very interesting though. --Zaku (talk) 14:26, March 18, 2022 (EDT)
Double Spin Glitch[edit]
If as Ice/Fire Mario/Luigi, you jump, spin and lose your power up just after spinning, then trying to spin again, you actually are able to ! This means that your spin in that state isn't a true spin for the game, but is a brand new spin whith other physics. If anyone find out how to use this propely to gain time on a stage, PLEASE send it into the official glitch list. -LennyTheSniper
Step-in-Place / Slow Pickup Glitch[edit]
If you crouch into a bob-omb while running into it, you will pick it up fast and start stepping in place.

If you crouch into a bob-omb while running into it, but you then reset your joystick position to neutral, you will pick it up absurdly slowly.

It would be nice if these got added to the glitch list because they look amusing and are probably unintentional.

Dying after grabbing a star[edit]
Gameplay is still active for at least 1 frame after grabbing a Power Star, so if you die/fail on that frame, the star will do its "You Got a Star!" animation (and in some cases, the camera will change to its cutscene angle) but Mario/Luigi will do a death animation and you'll get the "Too Bad!" text. Unfortunately the star won't count.
This can be done in time-limited stars, as well as Ghostly Galaxy's secret star due a deathplane being on the star until you get the last key.

Unactivated Bowser[edit]
You can do it with Mario too, here's a proof https://twitter.com/Gastari_/status/1251937408037388297 (warning, it might be a bit quiet) 176.111.214.10 05:01, April 22, 2020 (EDT)
Mario planet orbit DOES exist in Mario All-stars[edit]
I just tried the planet orbit death glitch on my Nintendo Switch, and contrary to the article the glitch still exists.
Here is the proof.

Brand New Glitch Discovered[edit]
Recently found a new glitch which I've titled "Gearmo's Trash Freeze." I looked everywhere for references but I'm pretty sure I'm the first one to discover it. If you can find prior documentation of it, let me know so I can cite it.

How does it work? TurkeyCookTime (talk) 14:21, December 29, 2020 (EST)
This glitch can be done on any Gearmo mission because of the following: the mission has a timer, and when it runs out, Mario is supposed to get teleported back to Gearmo to try again. However, if he dies right before that happens, the camera tries to go back to Gearmo, but then goes back down to Mario. Once the game realizes Mario isn't there (since he died), it doesn't know what to do and the game soft locks. This can be escaped by pressing the reset button on the Wii. I'm unsure if this works in Super Mario 3D All Stars.
The glitch isn't hard to pull off. If you have a Wii with Mario Galaxy, give it a shot. Try to get a video if possible because I don't think one exists.

- Just confirmed it works myself, I'll be getting some footage of the effects by the end of the week. //ZAKU// (talk · edits) 12:56, March 23, 2022 (EDT)
Reverse Gravity Floating (crystal floating)[edit]
In certain objects, there is an invisible object known as a "push" sphere, and NPCs have a sphere that works in a similar way. These spheres push Mario off and away from the object, and in doing so, they affect Mario's reading of gravity, typically making him fall much slower than normal. This can be manipulated in a janky way that seems to reverse Mario's reading of gravity, causing Mario to 'fall' upwards at a fixed speed. This was first known as crystal floating because it had only ever been seen with crystals thanks to their large "push" radius, however it has since been confirmed to work with other "push"-containing objects, such as what appears to be Yoshi getting stuck on a Jack O'Goomba during a dismount and then Mario interacting with Yoshi's "push", as well as the large warning signs in Slipsand Galaxy.
Credit to HEYimHeroic for the information of "push" spheres.

Bowser's Star Reactor Out Of Bounds Glitch[edit]
If you use Luigi and long jump and spin from on top of the Thwomp on the ending staircase, then wall jump off the end of the staircase and spin, Luigi will reach the area where Bowser usually is, but Bowser doesn't spawn, so you get the entire area to yourself. The camera angles start getting really strange, and if you walk back down the staircase, the platforms start breaking as if the falling meteors were breaking the platforms, and once you reach the area that would normally trigger Bowser to spwan, the game crashes. 174.99.34.216 19:27, August 27, 2021 (EDT)
Ghostly Galaxy Clip Into Haunted House[edit]
If you long jump off the right edge of the staircase at Ghostly Galaxy's first mission in the Pull Star area outside the mansion, then grab the third Pull Star just before it goes off screen, you can clip from under the ground into the mansion. 174.99.34.216 12:34, August 28, 2021 (EDT)
Gravity Blocks Image[edit]
For the "Stuck at the Launch Star" glitch, there is an image of Mario clipping through the gravity blocks. However, the paragraph on the glitch does not say anything about clipping into the blocks. If the clipping is part of the glitch, then it should be added to the paragraph, and if it's not, it should be added as a new glitch. TurkeyCookTime (talk) 12:07, March 4, 2022 (EST)
New Glitch found (info + video proofs)[edit]
In Dreadnought Galaxy's 2nd Mission, Dreadnought's Colossal Cannons, there is a Bolt Lift at the start of the level. If we stand on it moment until we open a tiny gap were Mario or Luigi can grab the ledge of the Bolt Lift (facing left, because facing right would cause the player to hang off the starting platform). Upon grabbing the ledge of the Bolt Lift, the game will kill us by crushing Mario or Luigi for being on a very narrow space, but because he was hanging on the Bolt Lift it will act like he was on it and keeps screwing the Bolt Lift forward even in the "TOO BAD!" screen. This glitch has 3 variants:
- The player gets crushed and "freezes" on the air, but the Bolt Lift keeps screwing forwards [1]
- The player gets crushed and it's still grabbing the ledge of the Bolt Lift while it keeps screwing forwards [2]
- The player gets crushed and it's still grabbing the ledge of the Bolt Lift while it keeps screwing forwards, but it glitches even more and makes Mario or Luigi desynchronize with the Bolt Lift and clipping through it with more speed [3]
The same results can be achieved on the front of the Bolt Lift if the glitch is done on the Mini Chomp's platform, but with a little complex execution due to the Mini Chomps and the Bolt Lift screwing back to his normal position after a short time period [4] [5]
This info can be rewritten if it is necessary or it has grammar or syntax errors (I'm not a native English speaker).

The "die in the air glitch" isn't a glitch[edit]
The "glitch" where you die thanks to the timer while in the air isn't a glitch. It has a uniqe animation. Mama09001 (talk) 10:31, June 9, 2024 (EDT)
