Is this thing a species or a creature?Knife (talk)

It is an enemy and I think a species, not just an item. Problem resolved. Unused Lemmy Koopa in Super Princess PeachRAP... Man! That list would go on unless I'd stop it!

Split warranted?[edit]

So Mimic is both a Final Fantasy enemy and a Dragon Quest enemy, yet they're both treated as the same thing because... they're both mimic treasure chest enemies? Even though they look quite a bit different? And then for some reason, the Huhwhat family from Super Mario RPG is being lumped in as well, even though they're even more different? Shouldn't these articles be split into Mimic (Dragon Quest) and Mimic (Final Fantasy)? ArendLogoTransparent.pngrend (talk) (edits) 04:53, August 9, 2024 (EDT)

The page seems to categorize it as an archetype of enemy and tbh I think it's fine, as a quasi-generic subject, especially since in the context of Mario, they're by all intents and purposes, the same enemy. BabyLuigiFire.pngXiahou Ba(the Nasty Warrior) 18:34, August 9, 2024 (EDT)

I feel like we should split the page anyway. Mostly because Mimicutie from Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS should qualify as a member of this quasi-generic subject, and I don't think editors want to write a section on the Mimic page about Mimicutie. Honestly I do agree that we should separate the Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest Mimics into their own articles. They are enemies from two different series of games, and have individually appeared in Mario media. A "Mimic (disambiguation)" page could be made though, which could have a link to the multiple Mimics that have appeared in Mario media, such as the DKCR Mimic, the Super Mario RPG enemies, the Dragon Quest enemy, the Final Fantasy enemy, and I guess the Mimicutie could be added on that disambiguation page since it is also a mimic-type enemy.

"Mimic" is itself kind of a generic fantasy enemy given both ones here are derived from the Dungeons and Dragons one, as is every other chest-based Mimic. I don't think there's a problem with the crossover FF and DQ Mimics sharing a page, since they are ultimately designs of the same D&D-based subject. Then... by that logic, should we also merge White Mage and Black Mage into a single "Mage" article? Or transform the "Ninja" page into an article that talks about any ninjas? Those are not really characters in their origin games, just RPG classes. Or what about making a page on the concept of Feathers, like the Mario's Time Machine one, the Super Mario RPG one, the Super Mario World one, etc? It would be quite silly right? That's basically how this Mimic article looks like right now to me... Two distinct subjects that seem similar, merged into a single article. Anyways yeah I feel like they should be split personally. --Metalex123 (talk) 15:52, May 15, 2026 (UTC)
