Mini Enemies[edit]

Mini Enemies, while they no longer have distinct pages, should probably still be documented here as their toy forms still exist and would count as Mario Toy Company products under the Mini line, especially since Cursed Toys are counted. GameyFireBro (talk) 19:57, April 7, 2025 (EDT)

Disagreeing here. While Shy Guy is a wind up automaton, we have no official statement saying the Mario Toy Company produces wind-up Shy Guy toys. We don't have an official statement on every non-Mini-Mario Mini Toy, but a case be made for some of them. Mini Donkey Kong could be because Donkey Kong is inexplicably an employee of Mario Toy Company and he takes one from a crystal ball in the opening cutscene of Mario vs. Donkey Kong 2: March of the Minis. Mini Pauline is given out to attendees of Mini Land Theme Park, which is owned by the Mario Toy Company. The Capsule design that Mini Pauline uses in that cutscene is the basis for the Capsule design used for the Mini Toys in the Mario vs. Donkey Kong: Mini-Land Mayhem!. Further, the Minis are linked extremely tightly from a gameplay perspective because they are functionally all the same, and this grouping is communicated in all of the manuals. Shy Guy isn't part of this mechanical grouping, being that they don't enter Goal Doors, break after falling, and so on. The most I would put on this article is "enemies in the Mario vs. Donkey Kong series are often mechanical versions of normally organic characters, like the Minis. Some of them, like Shy Guy and Pokey have wind up keys." Salmancer (talk) 02:48, July 26, 2025 (EDT)
Given this, we should probably note on the page that most of the Minis haven't been explicitly stated to be made by the Mario Toy Company. And remove the ones we can't justify with some amount of reasoning from Category:Mario Toy Company. (Thinking most of the amiibo Challenge ones here, game has no plot and no plot means no Mario Toy Company. Sorry Mini Spek.) Salmancer (talk) 03:29, July 26, 2025 (EDT)
Correction: the opening cutscene of Mario vs. Donkey Kong 2 confirms Mini Donkey Kong, Mini Peach and Mini Toad as being made by the Mario Toy Company. Doesn't really move the needle on the enemies though.Salmancer (talk) 14:26, July 26, 2025 (EDT)
Now that I think about it we're missing one pivotal fact that would push the inference from "90% conjecture" to "50% conjecture". We know Donkey Kong works for Mario Toy Company. If we had confirmation that Donkey Kong built either Mini Donkey Kong or the Donkey Kong's robots, an extrapolation to "Donkey Kong may have built the game's other enemies, and as he is an an employee of Mario Toy Company that means they could be Mario Toy Company products" would make sense. What are the official names for toys besides Mini-Mario in each game?[edit]

Prize Block from Super Mario World This talk page or section has a conflict or question that must be answered. Please try to help and resolve the issue by leaving a comment.

Given that I've been editing the Mario vs. Donkey Kong series articles as of recently, the inconsistent terminology used to describe any of the toys besides Mini-Mario is an issue I want to address. To verify the info I explain below, please see the citations on the first sentence of the article.

Mario vs. Donkey Kong and its remake do not feature any toys other than Mini-Mario, who is consistently named as such, so there's no issue there.

Mario vs. Donkey Kong: Mini-Land Mayhem!, Mario and Donkey Kong: Minis on the Move, and Mario vs. Donkey Kong: Tipping Stars all consistently call the toys "Minis" in-game, which is the highest-priority naming source per the wiki's article naming guidelines. (The instruction booklet for Mini-Land Mayhem! also calls the toys besides Mini Mario "capsule toys", but since the term "Minis" is used in game, it can be used to refer to all of the toys, including Mini Mario.)

Here is where issues start to pop up: Mario vs. Donkey Kong 2: March of the Minis and Mario vs. Donkey Kong: Minis March Again! seemingly avoid referring to any other toys besides Mini Marios at all cost. There is only one exception per game that I could find: The "Introduction" cutscene from Mario vs. Donkey Kong 2: March of the Minis says "MINI TOYS" (all caps) as it displays all four character toys in the game, while the European English version calls all of the toys "mini toys" (uncapitalized) within the in-game help demonstrations.

Meanwhile, Mini Mario & Friends: amiibo Challenge, the most recent appearance of toys besides Mini-Mario, consistently calls the toys "Mini Toys" (capitalized) in-game; however, the website for the game calls them "Mini Toys" and "Minis" in the same sentence.

Because the highest-priority naming source for the most recent appearance of the toys calls them "Mini Toys", an argument can be made to rename the article to "Mini Toy". On the other hand, the naming guidelines specifically say the more commonly used modern name should be the article name, which would be an argument for keeping the article's name as "Mini".

Finally, for March of the Minis and Minis March Again! specifically, the answer may be hidden in plain sight: the titles of the games themselves both contain the pluralized word "Minis". I can't tell for sure, but that may qualify as the highest-priority naming source for those games, since it is technically from the game itself despite not originating from the actual gameplay or the instruction manual.

In summary, I'd like to answer two questions:

  1. Should this article be renamed to "Mini Toy" or keep its current name of "Mini"?
  2. In March of the Minis and Minis March Again!, should the toys besides Mini Mario be called "Minis", "Mini Toys", or "mini toys"?

Update: I've found a source for the toys being named "Minis" for the Nintendo Switch version of Mario vs. Donkey Kong, so the article can safely remain titled as "Mini". My second question is still of concern, though. ThePowerPlayer Slug.png ThePowerPlayer 01:13, June 1, 2026 (UTC)
