(First topic)[edit]

Is he a Bandit sub-specie or a Shy Guy sub-specie?Knife (talk)

He has "Guy" in his name, so I'm thinking Shy Guy. Phoenix Rider

He somewhat resembles those Baseball Bandits, so I think they are Bandit. Also, shouldn't we merge this with Shy Guy? [User:maxlover2]]

No. All officially named varities can have their own page. -- Son of Suns

The POW Block[edit]

Why'd you change it? "Anywhere POW" directs you to the "POW Block" page, so shouldn't it be called that? And I'm not seeing anything about Anywhere POWs in Yoshi's New Island.
— The preceding unsigned comment was added by That Guy (talk).

Anywhere POW is its old name, and according to policy, we use the subject's old name when describing them in an earlier game. And it's not redirecting you, it's simply piping a link so that something links to something that is not the text shown, like this. POWs weren't in YNI. Alright, if you say so. I just hope removing the The preceding unsigned comment was added by That Guy (talk) and then adding the signature isn't against any policy. That Guy (talk) 20:29, August 21, 2019 (EDT)
Actually, SMW2 had both POW Blocks and Anywhere POWs, with the latter being a portable variation. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 20:19, August 21, 2019 (EDT)

Reorganize the classification of the Baseball Bros, alongside Zeus Guy and Grunt[edit]

So, for a while now, there is something that's been bugging me for a while.

The wiki consistently classified these direct variations of "Bandits" for a while now, but there's not really much evidence supporting the evidence, other than the fact they just so happen to take a few physical traits from Shy Guy too (and even then, that isn't really true for Grunt, since its mask covers the entirety of the head rather than just the face)

As a matter of fact, I once made an attempt to challenge the speculation, but since I went in without proper discussion, so it was mostly undone.

Think of it like Monty Mole and Rocky Wrench, or for a better (if not a bit unpopular) comparision Goomba and Goombrat/Kuribon, where they're kind of similar, but are not treated as direct "variants" of one another.

Yet, with Goombrat and Kuribon, Nintendo acknowledges their similarity to Goomba, and their designs are more closely connected to Goomba than the 3 enemies I cited are to Bandits.

This proposal will determine how to reorganize these enemies, and whether to continue classifying them as direct variants of Bandits.

I feel like Grunt is its own case, and may need a separate conversation. Otherwise, opening it up now would be... 🪱🪱🪱🪱

Connection to Shy Guy[edit]

Deadline: June, 08, 2026, 23:59 GMT

Have them be considered direct variants of Shy Guy
Classify them as relatives of Shy Guys
  1. FanOfYoshi (talk) Alternative.
  2. Sorbetti (talk) Per this convo, we really need to define what a variant is.
Comparable to Shy Guy, but not directly variants or related
  1. FanOfYoshi (talk) Preferred option for this section.

Connection to Bandit[edit]

Deadline: June, 08, 2026, 23:59 GMT

Reclassify as relatives
  1. FanOfYoshi (talk) Alternative.
  2. Sorbetti (talk) See my previous vote.
  3. LinkTheLefty (talk) Secondary. Should be in the same boat as Grunt at minimum, which are also modeled after a Bandit (itself considered a Shy Guy variant).
Remove the connection altogether
  1. FanOfYoshi (talk) My preferred option Alternative.
Comparable to Bandit, but not directly variants or related
  1. FanOfYoshi (talk) My preferred option!
No changes
  1. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) - With the exception of Grunt (whom I agree needs more specific reexamination), all of them prominently appear in The Cave Of The Bandits, which is full of many types of Bandits. This does not strike me as a coincidence. (Similar to how Goonie Rides! had all but the skeletal types of Goonies.)
  2. LinkTheLefty (talk) Primary. In addition, wasn't Grunt also considered a Bandit variant until recently?

Classification as derived from both[edit]

Comments[edit]

We'd say these guys should be designated as comparable to Bandit (insofar as they are taller variants of Shy Guys), but in the absence of any stated connection, calling them "relatives" is beyond us, and removing the connection seems a little silly. Could we get an option to consider these guys "comparable" to Bandit? Camwoodstock-sigicon.png~Camwoodstock ( talk contribs ) Camwoodstock-sigicon2.png 06:31, May 25, 2026 (UTC)

Sure, why not? --Green Yoshi FanOfYoshi at 06:51, May 25, 2026 (UTC)

...Shouldn't the "Comparable to Bandit, but not directly variants or related" option under #Connection to Shy Guy say, well, Shy Guy instead of Bandit? ArendLogoTransparent.pngrend (talk) (edits) 13:54, May 25, 2026 (UTC)

Oh... I thought for sure I replaced "Bandit" with "Shy Guy" in that section... --Green Yoshi FanOfYoshi at 13:57, May 25, 2026 (UTC)
Now that I think about it, is the "Classification as derived from both" redundant, considering the proposal affects both the "relations to Bandit" and "relations to Shy Guy" individually anyways? --Green Yoshi FanOfYoshi at 16:00, May 26, 2026 (UTC)
