The 'Shroom:Issue 186/Fun Stuff
Director's Notes
Greetings, beautiful 'Shroom readers! I am inches away from passing out because I head up to college this coming weekend and this week has been packed with preparations and final goodbyes! Woohoo!!
Our section might look a little smaller than usual, with Ninja Squid (talk) having resigned from Hiding Koopa last month and Goombuigi (talk) needing the month off from Picross, but rest assured, there's still plenty of great Fun Stuff content ahead for you. And hey, if you'd like to join our team, maybe pick up the proverbial torch where it's been placed down, check out our sign-up page!
That's all from me this month, so good luck to my fellow college classmates, and may all of you enjoy these September Fun Stuff selections!
Section of the Month
Congratulations to Ninja Squid (talk) for receiving Section of the Month! Well deserved for your final issue. Additional kudos go to FunkyK38 (talk) and WildWario (talk) for second and third place respectively. Make sure to vote for your favorites this month!

Anagrams
Written by: BBQ Turtle (talk)
Hey all, welcome to the first 'Shroom issue of the autumn! For the theme, I've decided to try something a little different- characters who are blue or have a largely blue colour scheme (Hopefully those terms and conditions can cover me from complaints). If you'd like to see some more colour themes, or perhaps some more themes, please let me know on my talk page or in a PM to me on the forums, I'd really love to hear from you. And now, here's a sea of anagrams for you to wade through!
How it works...
Basically, this puzzle consists of solving the anagrams. Each month has a specific theme, which will give you a clue about what sort of words or phrases the anagrams will be. I've also included the boxes that the anagrams will fit into, so you'll be able to tell how many words it will solve to be and how many letters will be in each word, which should give you a hand too. You'll also notice that within each set of boxes, one of the squares are yellow. As you solve each anagram, note down the letter which appears in the yellow squares, and if you can solve all of the anagrams, you'll also get a bonus anagram to solve from completing all of the others. I've included the letter configuration for this one at the bottom too, just to give you an extra helping hand. Best of luck!
1. EMBARGO ON ORB
2. WINK POSES
3. MAUL EEL
4. BECKON CULT
5. KOI MAP AGO
6. TANK KINK HUG
7. YEN SALT
8. POEM LAD
9. HI CLICHE FLY
10. DART GEL
11. POLKA OR RAY
12. NERVY GLEE HALL
Bonus anagram:
- Boomerang Bro
- Snow Spike
- Lumalee
- Count Bleck
- Magikoopa
- King Ka-Thunk
- Stanley
- Madpole
- Chief Chilly
- Draglet
- Larry Koopa
- Hellen Gravely
Bonus anagram: Baby Rosalina
Word Search
Written by: Mustard Machine (talk)
Hello Fun Stuff readers, and welcome to another cool and fun for cool and fun people Word Search! In honor of the greatest announcement in the history of announcements, Pikmin 4, this month's word search will be all about Pikmin 3! Less tricks this time, because words can only be found vertically, horizontally, and backwards! As always stay safe and have fun!
Crossword
Written by: MarioMorty (talk)
Hello everyone, and welcome back to yet another edition of Crosswords, brought to you by me, MarioMorty. This crossword is based off the recent September Nintendo Direct. And without further ado, enjoy.
Where in the Marioverse is Carmen Sandiego?
Each issue, you will be given a case to solve and clues to use to help you find the solution! Use your Mario knowledge to crack the case!
You will begin each case at the scene of the crime, and you will be given three clues from passerby as to where the next hot spot is and what game it’s from. Using your knowledge of Mario games and the Super Mario Wiki, figure out where the crook is and go track them down! There are four locations each round: the crime scene (1) at the start, two locations (2 and 3) with clues, and the hideout for the crook of the month (4). Answers for locations will be given with the corresponding round, for example, the clues from the crime scene will lead you to location 2, and once you open the spoiler bubbles for location 2, you will be given the correct answer. You can open the clues for each location in any order you’d like, but be careful! You may encounter an incorrect clue that could throw you off the case!
Clues offered will give you a hint either about the next location or the game it’s in. Unlike a regular Carmen Sandiego game, you do not have to collect information about the crook you are tracking down.
Challenge round (optional):
-Find all locations and games correctly in two minutes or less
-Find all locations and games correctly without using the rest of the Wiki for help
“Gumshoe, there’s another case for you this month! Carmen has struck again, and it looks as she’s got her eyes on the shinies once again. She’s organized a team to steal Mario and Peach’s metal upgrades- the ones they use to turn into Metal Mario and Pink Gold Peach for Mario Kart racing. Now, I know you may be unimpressed by this case, but think of it this way: with a metal upgrade, Carmen can go out herself and become nearly invincible! Or, she can provide it to one of her teams and THEY can have metal invincibility! So, think of this case as for the good of stopping Carmen’s nefarious deeds instead of bringing back Metal Mario and Pink Gold Peach, all right? Now, we’ve pinpointed the heist on one particular thief- Greedy Goomba. He’s working with a team for the handoff and getaway, so we need you to hurry to track him down!”

HIDEOUT ANSWER: Sunshine Isles from Super Mario 64 DS
“We’ve got them, gumshoe! I’m not sure why they traveled to a small section of islands where they could be easily spotted, but we got them all and the stolen power ups! We’re transporting them back to lock them up. Maybe they’ll even spill the beans on Carmen’s whereabouts! Mario and Peach are thrilled a well with your good work. They sent over a mock-trophy for your desk- it’s only a few inches tall. Nothing like the actual Mario Kart trophies! Anyhow, good work gumshoe, we couldn’t have done this without you! We’ll be in touch when we get a new lead on Carmen. Get some rest- you’ve earned it!”

Trivia
Written by: Mustard Machine (talk)
Whew it’s almost time for 'Shroom release, better slip this into the press and Rose will never know I was late. Speaking of knowing things, did you know?
- That the Nintendo 64 and the Virtual Boy are the only Nintendo consoles you can’t legally play Super Mario Bros. on?
- That Donkey Kong Jr. is the only Mario game where Mario is the antagonist?
- That Reznor was named after Trent Reznor of the band Nine Inch Nails?
- That Mario Tennis Advance is the only game to have Waluigi playable but not Wario?
- That originally New Super Mario Bros. Wii was going to have a chicken costume power-up?
- That Ostro and Birdo's names are mixed up in the Super Mario Bros. 2 credits?
